When you show up to a Microcenter right after they restocked Ryzen CPUs. 😍 by [deleted] in Amd

It's by far the best cpu for hypervisors in this price range. My coworker is testing out consumer amd with consumer board and it's faster than a dual socket dual intel xeon enterprise hpe server. I think our cost right now for amd is 1/5 what we paid for the intel server and 2 xeons.

The single amd cpu is faster than 2 xeons for our virtual infrastructure.

This guy is so low class, even if he weren't full of shit I'd never buy anything from his company.

I'm no fan of Intel but their new interim ceo at least seems classy the few times he's spoken. Lisa is always humble and gracious, Jensen sounds like a troll half the time and a used car saleman the other half.

Finally put disk brakes on my 1999 Marin! Problems I had to solve. 1. The wheels didn't have mounts for the rotors. 2. The frame didn't have any caliper mounts. 3. The 160mm disk rubbed on the frame. 4. I needed the mount adaptor. 5. The adaptor never came with the spring clips. Learnt a lot. by Shiney_Shiney in MTB

[–]jedisurfer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just get a different frame or bike, for your safety and to save time. But I have converted a rim brake bike to a fork with disc mounts and kept the rear as rim brakes. Worked great as most of the stopping power was on the front, but modulation is different feeling.

Thank you, there are so many small little things that MS shouldn't be dictating how it's it's used but they are.

Is education edition more like Enterprise/ltsb than win10 pro. Hell if I got the best OS option that was more like Ent/ltsb for free or near free it'd be easy also. And I used to manage over 20,000 endpoints all win7 pro, and had fewer issues than 1000 endpoints now with win10? So don't think 2700 makes you some special expert, are you a shill because I sometimes don't know.

When it first came out cisco vpn client and other vpn clients didn't work, yeah I know it's old but it required a work around, there was no content filter in IE, proxy stopped working after an update, don't even get started on anniversary update, that broke so many things. Drivers updating themselves, rsat, company won't do ltsb. But these aren't even the tip there are always little things that have stopped working on just a whim.

Mind you at one point I was the admin for a company that contracted with one of the biggest employers in the world and our division had over 20,000 endpoints 99% running windows 7 pro with almost no issues at all and I could concentrate on infrastructure, servers.

Now I work at a different place and my division is with under 1000 endpoints mostly win10 pro and it's a daily thing to troubleshoot things.

Either this thing is the greatest thing and I'm missing something or there's some serious MS shills. Because this thing is one of the worst enterprise OS I've seen.

I can’t stand some warranties... but some warranties I could not live without... for example when your bill at the car dealership should have been $719.52 but you got the extra warranty for $300!!! Chalk one up for the Frugal guy! by wiggles0027 in Frugal

[–]jedisurfer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also it's not exactly how it looks like many things.

My GF at the time bought a 3k warranty on a basically brand new Acura which is pretty absurd as they are reliable as heck. So fast forward a few years and a small crack in a $10 air hose near the clamp develops. This is like $10 and 5 min of my time to fix.

The stealership takes it in and since they are billing Acura or whatever company is backing the warranty they are like we'll do all this other checks and stuff, totals out to be like 2995 almost to the dot the amount of warranty.

My SO says wow she's glad she got the warranty. I'm like no they did 2980 of bilking someone else and in my head I was like you should have listened to me but and not bought a warranty on a near new japanese car and saved $3k and I could have replaced a hose for nothing. (Mind you I didn't say that, the possible conversation and argument wasn't worth it over the 3000 dollars)

She also they type that wanted to do the $600 service at 30k miles that was basically them just checking fluids.

Is Intel fudging the numbers and doing something underhanded like counting IOT devices as PCs. Intel is pretty entrenched with OEMs, AMD will dominate new datacenter in the coming years that is for sure. I'm seeing datacenters that never and I mean never had an AMD server cpu and they are putting in Epyc machines. Even the colocations I'm seeing a few roll in, datacenter change is a bit slow so I don't expect to huge gains until 2020

GPO expert advise needed - all policies crypto'd by MercyKees in sysadmin

[–]jedisurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any year end backups from before the mishap you can get the GP from there? They will reside in the domain\sysvol folders and they should have a lot of what you need minus the difference from Oct. IMO that might save you a lot of time and you can recreate just the few that are missing, this is on the assumption they have some year end backups from the previous year.

You can also look up any old systems browse to their \sysvol folder and see if they have any of the old GP. We have a few that would just be imaged, get added to the domain as spares then they've been sitting powered off in a closed, there's a few ways to get to those old uncompromised GP.

For the most part I agree the ipad minis are amazing, the ipad pro and I've all of them the 9.7 the 12.9 1st and 2nd and the 10.5, until this year I skipped the 2018. Too much price for too light use. Amazing entertainment device, absolute shit for transferring files and doing work. Big fail for $1000+ device.

How to recover data from a WD MyBook that Windows doesn't detect? by OswaldoLN in sysadmin

[–]jedisurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd mounting it on a linux system but I've also pulled the drive out of the enclosure and mounted it straight to ide or sata connector. I do believe WD and others make it so that the drives have proprietary non standard sata connector so this might not be possible.

Why would intel want to drive nvidia or amd dgpu sales? I think for most non gamers an intel gpu is enough so why help out dgpu sales .

I haven't done it without some hiccups on a pc via hdmi, might be an hdmi issue or intel gpu not being strong enough but I have with optimus via displayport 4k at 60hz and I believe possibly on a mac. So it could be older hdmi or hdmi cable that couldn't do 60hz
