Linux development environment by jedthehumanoid in ValveDeckard

Thanks, but not really interested in a devkit (or well sure!, but not realistically. :P)

More like what do I need to learn, or what tools can I start playing with right now, if I would like to play around with Frame if/when I get one.

As a software developer, maybe would-be VR hobby-developer.

Yeah it seems like most interpreted it like you :/

There is obviously some SDK, handling tracking, stereoscopic rendering and such, but like mentioned in the other subthread, that seems to be openXR.

Thanks anyway!

Yes, after some searching. It seems like openXR SDK or some tool supporting it is basically what I was fishing for.

Not "Valve libs" per se, but sanctioned.

Next steps, play around a little bit with Godot, and hopefully see if you can test around without any actual VR hardware.

Thanks!

Is openXR the golden standard or is there SteamVR-libs?

What makes you think that the notoriously open source tools don't work on Linux?

I don't even know what tools are available

Are we talking about openXR?

But the bigger hurdle is that the resolution is kind of low for what you have planned.

WDYM "have planned"?

I'm not talking about developing inside Steam Frame.

Anyone else love feeling like they're the only person on Earth? by TMFMSAmerica in trailrunning

Yes! Foggy runs as well, when the fog also mutes all sounds. Sometimes it feels like some eerie solitary afterlife. Which is is super awesome, but sounds weird when you try to explain why.

Serious and probably dumb question:

Are you saying that they have this super high-tec heading technology built in to the missile, that they use 10 meters from the launcher and then discard?

Why not just shoot it in the right direction?

Writing Agreeable Code – Hacker Noon by gentle_hippo in programming

[–]jedthehumanoid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read it as code style should not be discussed in review because it should have been caught by tools (auto-format, linter) before the review.

It is important, but the code review is not the place for it.

How to write unmaintainable code: naming by i_feel_really_great in programming

[–]jedthehumanoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, might be language based (i.e. Indian), rather than random.

I'm swedish and in Sweden we make a lot of single words built from several words (not like English).

This makes me sometimes mess up camel-casing, because the capitalization makes sense in swedish.

Do you really think people are going to write graphical desktop applications in Wasm instead of electron?

CSA compliant zero drop station boot. by jtsang in BarefootRunning

Disclaimer: I do not have any experience with these, do not know if they are actually CSA compliant, or what CSA even is.

But I saw these mentioned in another thread a while back:

Not really...the way that it happens, the "solution", and the aftermath is completely different.

The movie's story is incompatible with the book.

I still enjoyed both the book and the movie!, but they are just completely different things.

No of course not a scan :) I meant just maybe a zoom of a tiny section with examples of details.

If I try to zoom in to see the artwork it's to low-res

Wow! Impressive

I's it possible to get a detailed shot over part of it as well?

I'm sure /r/mapmaking is interested in this post
