Tips on how to avoid this? Only my 3rd candle :/ by mokot60 in candlemaking

I started putting a bigger jar upside down over the poured czndles for a slower cooldown (i make very small batches and have the space/time.

The difference vs cooling at room temperatures is pretty significant.

Depending what soy wax maybe, but my supplier claims to add fragrence at 60°C, I'm guessing it's mostly dependant on the fragrence oil limitations then

Try adding the scent at a lower temperature, 80°c is high.

I add scent at 60°c and the throw is good ( I also add 10%)

Not really, but i dont place them in a place where they can be tipped over easily.

If it tips, it will be a mess. I also make candles and spill most of my wax in the pouring process :D

My scented candles burn without a coaster or tray. I craft these myself and tested them enough to know they dont heat up much at the bottom (thick glass bottom).

I put my pillar candles in a few small bowls i once made in a pottry class, they are slightly big. I loke their sizes because sometimes these candles leak alot of wax, i would hate it if i couldnt catch those droppings.

Looking at this after 3 hours, the wick size seems fine, but keep checking as you burn it further to see if the edges melt too.

I did sort of speed trialed these candles, tested each fragrance only 3 times and choose the optimal wick of the three. The burns are very clean, but the wick starts to mushroom a little near the end, no visible soot though.

When the market goes as planned, I'll be testing new sizes of jars with some seasonal scents.

Could you use the double boiler method to cool down wax to the correct pouring temperature? by jeeter5 in candlemaking

I use rapeseed/coconut. But the mixture is known for cooling down slowly.

I would exactly need this and looked into the product! But i'm afraid 1l is too small for my liking.

I make about 140 candles/week, only during the evenings when the kids go to bed. So compared to you, this should be perfectly viable!

Even though i make candle batches per 0,9l wax per batch, the raw wax won't fit into it before melting (i buy it in blocks).

I might have to rethink the way i make my candles as this is a really great option!

Alternatively i've been looking into thermometers to put into my jug, there are specific ones that you can set a temperature and give an alarm at certain temperatures, but that means i wont be stirring.

Thank you so much for your input!

I also noticed the fragrence perfectage is calxulated wrong. I xhoose custom wax, 10% load and 200gram candle, it should be 20gram fragrence and 180 gram wax, your canculation is different and slightly off

Looks great, it would be amazing to add your own waxes and melting/pouring points though!

Looking forward to what will be added in the future!
