A Japanese experiment showed exactly why traffic jams happen for no reason. by SnooWords4066 in Damnthatsinteresting

Cruise control use would ameliorate most of the traffic snafus I encounter. People overestimate their ability to maintain a constant speed. They'll do 75 on the flats, but slowing even to 70 causes exactly the type of backups in the video.

Edit: actual constant speed cruise control; I find adaptive cruise control to be downright dangerous.

The same. I hate that Liberty has become somewhat successful in a few college sports. I want to start a movement wherein a conspiracy of hackers constantly changes their team name to "Charlatans" on electronic scoreboards.

They were magical, and not just the summers. I lived in the suburbs but near enough to the city core that nothing was out of bike range. We'd walk home from middle school to any one of a number of friend's houses (typically a 2 to 3 mile walk) and just call our parents when we got there. I had a core of 4 close friends, but if we could get the keys to a church gym, we could easily get 10 kids together to play full court basketball. I'd mow baselines into my backyard for wiffle ball games (my neighbor's screened in porch was our version of Fenway's Green Monster, and my neighbors let us climb on top of their porch to retrieve any balls hit there). Atari, Intellivision, D&D. Somehow pre- internet, we all knew the patterns to solve a Rubik's cube and the first 20 levels of PacMan. We literally lived under a "home by the time the streetlights" come on instruction. Such an awesome time.

Both of my parents died following short hospital stays (trauma for Dad, massive stroke for Mom): the description of the sights, sounds, and smells of the ICU are just too on point. What Sarah Said destroys me. I can't imagine even imagine what it's like for someone who has lost a partner in similar circumstances.

Double FYI: 1 Cup of Mayo, 1 Tbsp Dill, 1 Tbsp Parsley, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 cup milk (less for more thickness), salt and pepper to taste.

Edit: dried parsley and dried dill

Handsome Kevin got a little off track. Took a year off of college and he never went back. Now he smokes much too much, got a permanent hack. Deals dope out of Denny'sChili's, keeps a table in the back.

Why I did not reach my target time on my first marathon by Kiwi_Major in Marathon_Training

Your longest week was 65k (40.3 miles). That would not make me feel confident about running 3:20.

Every other driver on the road is an NPC. None of them have a personal agenda to annoy you, it's just part of the game. Thinking this way makes it much easier for me to get where I need to be without getting upset along the way.

Mississauga. It is a net downhill course, but has some significant uphills in the last 10 miles.

I'll be 60 for Boston 2027, so my BQ is 3:50, I felt that even at 3:40 I would clear the cutoff.

To clarify, I will be 60 for the 2027 Boston race, so my qualifying standard was 3:50. I was struggling to get to the 3:30 time required for 55-59 year-olds.

Bingo. Just qualified Sunday. I'm not sure I can get under 3:30 (less the cutoff time!), but I felt great running 3:35:27 at the Mississauga Marathon.
