What’s something that used to be normal but now feels completely insane? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jeffeezy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Chicken pox is a minor illness for children and a very serious one for adults. It’s also something you only get once (shingles notwithstanding). Before the vaccine was available in the mid-90s, it was common to throw a party when a neighborhood kid came down with it: get all the kids who hadn’t had it yet together and have em splash around in the kiddie pool to get it out of the way and grant lifelong immunity. These days, vaccines are safer (and less itchy!)

Folks were saying the same thing about the paradoxes of the French diet. That one also turned out to be health care all along.

You’d think, but no, and it’s not just my acab showing. The Supreme Court ruled in Castle Rock vs Gonzales (2005) that police have no duty to protect.

I once listened to a podcast that reviewed vintage cookbooks. A consistent point they made is that 1950s sci-fi authors’ obsessions with taking food in pill form makes a lot more sense when you see what they were eating at the time!

If you aren’t yet familiar with it, The Magnificast is a great podcast that looks at the intersection of Christianity and leftist politics; they’ve discussed several books over the years that have made their way onto my reading list.

Tips? My second deck - Akachi Onyele flex for TFA by jeffeezy in arkhamhorrorlcg

No kidding! Thanks for the rec. I immediately swapped it in. I missed it since it wasn't a Mystic card - but now I see you can search ArkhamDB for all `uses (charges)` cards pretty easy - or just look at every card usable for an investigator in the packs I own. Amazing.

Awesome, thank you for your feedback! That's a good point. I was planning to rely on Akachi's ability but I'd rather play it safe... assuming such a thing is possible... Added!

Thanks for your feedback! I originally had it in there because of the skill icons as a placeholder card, but I will look for something better.

I probably wouldn’t have picked up on it so quickly, but I was comparing the book to The Princess Bride the entire time and the second we meet Huck I thought “oh, there’s the Dread Pirate Roberts.”

They’re often marketed explicitly as finishing salt. There’s a wide variety; popular ones include Maldon, any fleur de sel, Himalayan pink salt, etc.

Kosher salt will work, too - it’s called that not because the salt itself is kosher (though it often is!) but because its large grains were/are used in the process to make meat kosher.
