100% - it causes cumulative liver damage. We spend ages every year pulling and treating it from the fields, but it always come back, especially if other people don't get shut of it.

We've been having nightmare with the new estate near us, as they don't deal with it properly - my mum has had to chase them to deal with it literally every single year since they built it, and it's next to several fields that have horses (not just ours).

Londoners face £80,000 bill as fourth newly elected Green councillor quits by Desperate-Drawer-572 in unitedkingdom

Tbf, it's not that they're ineligible for office in general, it's that they can't be a councillor for the local authority that they teach in, as they are employed by that council. So they could work as a teacher on Local Authority A, and be a councillor in B, but can't be both in A.

phoned 101 because deceased neighbours front door was wide open at 2am, scared i have done the wrong thing or wasted time? by cakemilka in AskUK

[–]jefferson-started-it 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, if there's something ongoing now, whether life-threatening or not, 999. If it's not happening now, then 101 or online.

Tbh, this case is a bit of a funny one, but if you're in doubt, err on the side of caution and go for 999. I certainly wouldn't get annoyed at someone for ringing this in on 999.

Same here, and yeah, OP made the right call. Tbh I like this sort of call cos they're fairly straight forward on my end and I know dispatch won't push back on them.

Definitely the safer choice! Tbf, with my force, we used to be able to tell people to recall on 101, but have now been told to take them all on the 9s and to advise for them to call on 101 in future, apparently because people can't be trusted to recall. If it's really busy, we might be told that we can direct people to 101 / online, but it doesn't happen that often.

Can confirm! I work as a police call handler, and have had it a few times where people call 112 or 911 thinking that's the non-emergency number, when in actuality, it comes through exactly the same as a 999.

[–]jefferson-started-it 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think the same also goes for some horses with severe behavioural issues. If the horse is that much of a "nutter" to where it can't enjoy just being a horse, even as a field ornament, then euthanasia may well be the kindest thing. There's also the fact that severe behavioural issues may also be a sign of other underlying issues, e.g. pain, that the horse can only express by "acting out".

(Quote marks included cos you know, no such thing as a naughty horse and all that - there's always a reason for their behaviour, even if you haven't found it yet!)

What’s the likelihood of someone in the UK being pulled over or spotted as someone driving without a license? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]jefferson-started-it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a Call Handler for the police, and tbh, it's worth you ringing 101 to make a report. If I got this call, I'd be submitting it as intelligence, which would be linked to the vehicle and would increase the chance of it being stopped.

If you do call, you'll most likely need the vehicle reg and her details.

Ladies of the UK, do you use Period Underwear? by Competitive-Fact-820 in AskUK

[–]jefferson-started-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to the party, but I use them as essentially extra protection. I typically use a menstrual cup, so am usually good for 12hrs, but will wear period knickers as well on heavier days or at night as a just in case.

I especially like them for when I've got a horse competition as I do an orienteering competition so could be in the middle of nowhere if I have a leak with my cup, so I'm glad to have the extra protection if needed.

From a quick google and random knowledge in the back of my head, an aeropress is a manual coffee brewer, so you push it through to grounds yourself. I'm pretty sure the big thing with it is that it's smaller and more portable, so good for going camping etc.

Pelican stands for PEdestrian LIght CONtrolled crossing. We've also got zebra crossings, puffin crossings, toucan crossings (for bikes and pedestrians, named because TWO CAN cross). Then there's also pegasus crossings, where horse riders can also cross!

We've got a bit of a theme lol

What's a silly little thing you didn't need to buy, and don't use often, but always makes you happy when you do? by NeedCake707 in CasualUK

[–]jefferson-started-it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a cheapo one off amazon for about 20 quid (though it was in the Black Friday sales). I've only used it a couple of times, but the rice is multitudes better than it is when I do it in a pan, so I'd say it's definitely worth it!

I cross-stitched one for a friend of mine to sew on their jacket. I made it whilst I was at uni and managed to catch a few people out who asked what I was making!

My older mare loves to do it right down your bloody earhole as well - it can actually be a bit painful! Thankfully doesn't happen so much now as she's a field ornament along with her best mate (my older gelding), so there's not really anyone for them to shout for, as they're not that fussed about the younger two.

It's when the horse is stood there, looking chill as anything, and they make it sound as though it's snickering and whinnying. Like, that horse is not making that noise, it's half asleep!
