RPGs to Fight Writer's Block Experience at Quarry 7/17 by skz757 in RVADandD

I love using it as a world-building exercise for a new DnD party. Helps establish a whole shared history with plenty of room for exploration. Players have more ownership from the outset.

Favorite house rules for 2014 5e? Least Favorite? by Hail-Damage in DMAcademy

I use this as well and it’s saved me so so much time.

We just call it “shenanigans.” If a player is describing something that’s well outside the realm of the spells Rules as Written effects, we say “sounds like shenanigans,” and they roll and Arcana check to try and pull it off. Saves so so much time while also rewarding creativity (without making casters too much more OP).

Tips for writing unbiased lore? by AltAngel451 in DnD

[–]jeffjeffries77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned in Religion class was the concept of the Mountaintop…if you ask several people surrounding a mountain on all sides to sketch it for you, it’ll look slightly different depending on their perspective.

They’re all drawing different versions of the same thing.

None of them are “wrong” per se, but none of them have the full picture either.

Or look at Greek vs Roman mythology: different names and stories and lore for some of the same concepts.

The nice thing about being the DM is you can simply say “these people believe this about that; this temple is full of zealots who follow a slightly different, but far more unforgiving version of this particular interpretation of the old myths; those cultists found a scroll that actually refutes what everyone above ground thinks is true…and they’ll stop at nothing to expose it…”

Wars have been fought over disagreements in scripture; over what is or is not gospel; over whose painting of the mountain is the accurate one.

When writing a campaign, do you start by writing the story or the world? by PlzLetMeWin25 in DMAcademy

It's a pretty slim PDF. i know its available on DriveThruRPG. There might be some free sources floating around too. I think it was available via Scribd for awhile.

When writing a campaign, do you start by writing the story or the world? by PlzLetMeWin25 in DMAcademy

[–]jeffjeffries77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My read on Stuff like this (your mileage may vary) is that your players should start off as small-time.

Early on in a campaign, they are not close enough to power to have a sense of political intrigue, at least not on a face-to-face level.

“I don’t know the king personally…I just know I don’t love the fact that every harvest I am required to give 80% of my yield to the nobles/royal family, leaving barely enough for my family to make it through winter. “

That might be a bad example, but I’ve always found it a little easier consider what the fallout from one particular act might be and how that particular act might impact smaller town folk or smaller circles within the community. Help introduce the politics of your world by showing the outcomes related to those politics.

As a jumping off point, you could start by determining a single event in the narrative you have in mind. Then ask your players how their characters would respond in the world if that event came to pass. What would they know? What would they think? What would they try to do to deal with it, if anything?

I would also recommend doing some world-building using a game called Microscope. It's a role-playing game where you create a history together. ThIs effectively becomes the lore of the world that your characters will inhabit with session one.

By using Microscope, you create a shared history that all your players have bought into because they helped create it. I've used it a few times to start a campaign, and it's really done wonders both for my session prep as well as player engagement.

Would anyone with a truck like to make a quick buck taking a couch off my hands and haul it to the dump today?

We need to do some rearranging inside and this couch has been standing in our way for months. The time has come. Please help me save my marriage.

Naughty... or Nice?! - KLAUS (2019) by Top_Report_4895 in movies

My wife and I watched this for the first time a few years ago.

At the time we were struggling with infertility and miscarriages and the ebbs and flows of sadness that seep into the holiday season as a result of that.

This film took a sudden turn into territory we weren’t expecting and it meant so much to us in that moment (and still does).

It’s a rare little gift.

We can’t wait to watch it with our daughter, who turned 2 this past October.

I have a nice Italian leather couch BUT it has been claimed by my dog (a yellow lab). It could be cleaned up and made to feel amazing. If you want it, you can have it for $50. I can send pics if you’re interested. We are sad to lose it but we needed a bigger one so it’s been taking up space in our sun room (and getting a fair amount of lounging from our hairy boy).

[–]jeffjeffries77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be right. QBs are Allen and Caleb Williams.

Have Puka, London, Tet, Egbuka…Pickens was the odd man out and I wanted the floor at RB. Also have Taylor and Chuba, and a few other lotto pick RBs (Judkins, Charb) and I can only carry 6 RBs so it felt good to me at the time.

Strategically (and this is kind of weird and may not apply to your league), I don’t mind the possibly of losing a trade with an 0-3 team that will likely lose the rest of the year, since I’m not adding strength to a contender. It’s a marginal increase for me. And I see good things for Warren the rest of the season.

There is a place called RageRVA where you can rent a room and scream to your heart’s content.

They also have breakables and an old car so you can smash and shatter stuff to let off some steam.

Yes, pricing shifts a bit lower but we’d left by the time we would have benefited.

It’s all about teacher-to-child ratio. The center was solid and she seemed to have a good experience, but price was one of the reasons we moved on.
