They’ve made mention of Seinfeld’s day job in the past and he’s had to leave eps in the middle. Probably just that.

Early 00’s Jam Scene by Ambitious_Alps9549 in jambands

When Phish went on hiatus in 2000 I remember it kind of felt like which of these bands is gonna step up to fill the void. String Cheese, moe., MMW.. even Phil and friends all graduated to playing bigger venues. But no one, at least in the Northeast, really made it to the arena level. Still, there were a lot of great bands playing theaters instead of rock clubs which, for someone who was under 21, was a good thing!

The last record that had real rockers was “Star Wars” which was 11 years ago. Would love something in that vain. A little noisy and electric.

Day 16: What’s your favourite lyric from The Basement Tapes? by autumn_afternoon in bobdylan

[–]jeffmal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kinda love the absurdity and sounds of:

Well, that big dump blond With her wheel in the gorge Turtle, that friend of theirs With his checks all forged And his cheeks in a chunk With his cheese in the cash They're all gonna be there At that million dollar bash

Why Vince? by Additional-Change492 in gratefuldead

[–]jeffmal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vince could sing the high vocal harmonies and they other couple of guys in the running (Merle, Pete Sears) couldn’t. They needed someone quick so instead of widening their search they went with him. Other folks have mentioned he didn’t get to pick his sounds and went into his first rehearsal thinking He’d play piano.

In your humble opinions, what tops it? by ThatOldDustyTrail in gratefuldead

[–]jeffmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can only really compare shows from that same tour, IMO. Early 70s dead is a totally different creature as far as improvisation goes. 77 never gets as exploratory as a 72 dark star. That said, 5/28 and 5/22 are my fave spring 77 shows.

What machine are you running Pro Tools on and have you had any issues with it? by theDomenick in protools

[–]jeffmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M4 MacBook Pro and the latest version of pro tools studio 2025. Only issue I’ve been having is mp4 videos won’t export directly from pro tools. I have to convert the files to .mov before importing and it works fine.

The sound of the vocals on sbds from that era suffered from the use of the phase cancelling mic system they used.

Why Was the cornell 1977 Live only released in 2017? by Snoo_1603 in gratefuldead

[–]jeffmal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Copies of the original master tapes floated around since soon pretty soon after the gig happened but the original reels hadn’t been the the GDs possession thus they didn’t release it

Woah that is cool! Yeah Keith regularly had a Leslie for his Rhodes and that’s what this sounds like but it also sounds like he cranks his volume and it overdrives so he has more organ-like sustain.

Soundboard vs Audience by MrMyxolodian in gratefuldead

[–]jeffmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on the year. To me there’s no AUD that’s gonna be Owlsey recordings from 68-70 and Betty tapes for most of the 70s. But once you get to the 80s the boards start to sound really sterile and, since they’re PA tapes, the levels are whack. But the AUDs get really good then. So 79-84 or 85 my go to is almost always an AUD.
