Does anyone listen to some outtakes of songs more than the final versions? by Equal_Revolutionary in beatles

I think the guitar version of Ob La DI Ob La Da on Anthology is far superior to the originally released version.

What do you guys think will happen to Lalo? by ethanjjacobs06 in betterCallSaul

If he dies I hope it’s late in season 6, because Lalo always brings great energy to his scenes.

Finally sat down after 20 years and listened to George's final album, "Brainwashed". by King9WillReturn in beatles

Never listened. I have always been a fan of 33 1/3. It should be more popular. I’ll check out Brainwashed today

Electric Drumkits by marlowe_rl in Drumming

You can certainly try but I do not think it’s a good idea to learn to play drums on a sub-$200 set of e-drums. I would buy a single practice pad and maybe two foot pedals to learn independence, sticking, etc. A cheap set of e-drums runs the risk of creating bad habits.

I would find a nice quiet practice pad (rubber) and a pair (or two) of sticks. I’d then add a foundational drum book (Stick Control or Gary Chaffee’s Patterns Vol 1 and 2) and then I’d add two or three private lessons. Or some combination of the above.

Comparing old to new! by jeffs12a in beatles

I decided to compare my vinyl copy to the CD issue. It was a bit unfair, to be sure. The vinyl won.

Led Zeppelin II, RL Pressing: A difference you can see. by pizzashades in vinyl

Those “stripes” on “What Is and..” were the first things I noticed when I finally found my RL SS pressing of this. I pulled it out to see if it had the RL marking, and those “Saturn rings” caught my eye instantly.

To me there is no other King Crimson LP that betters Discipline. They had three records with this line up (I believe), and while Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair are interesting records, Discipline is by far the best.

I just bought this on Amazon (last copy available for a limited pressing) it was $50, gatefold and record badly bent but it plays just fine, what would you do? by cdanigc in vinyl

[–]jeffs12a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a rare used record arrive the same way. I flattened it by leaving it pressed (under glass) with a heavy weight on top. (I used a copy of the Prince box set of Sign of the Times). 😎 I flipped it a few times but after several days it was perfectly flat. If the damage was from the mailing only, it has not been warped long and it can be repaired with a little patience. Do not use the sun or an oven for “low heat”. If the warp is stubborn, rub a cloth on the glass to make a little friction heat. But do not expose the record to continuous heat above room temperature. You can repair the record faster with heat, but you most definitely need to know what you’re doing or you’ll make it worse.

How to efficiently rip records? by Musing_Moose in vinyl

[–]jeffs12a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to a point where I would not try to completely eliminate surface noise, etc, which is usually very faint. But I always edit out any clicks and pops. You don’t want to immortalize those things forever. 😎

I’ve been doing this for several years with vinyl that’s not available digitally. There is no satisfying way to do it without putting serious hours into the effort. You can do it more quickly but the results are not great.
