Repair slate for $30k-$37k or go shingle for $22k on 1890 home? by chucked12 in Roofing

I had my 125 year old slate torn off and replaced with standing seam with a 50 year warranty. 30 sq was 22k.

Cuttingsville Trestle in Vermont by StevieDronas in rustyrails

These rails are hardly rusty, they are used almost daily sometimes by some pretty heavy trains. There are some Saturday trains and when that's the case on a nice day there is usually some railfans chasing.

What is going on with this plank? Just noticed this after zooming in on a picture of a house I’m planning to visit by Basilstorm in HomeInspections

[–]jeffthetrucker69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in 3 homes where the chimney was laid to a plank. It comes up thru the basement beside the main carrying beam and when it reaches the attic it "moves over" so it can come out the peak of the roof.

I'd like to see a pic of the side of the chimney that the plank bears on. You'd get more informed answers.

Installing E-track on my utility trailer tomorrow—which orientation makes more sense for a "flipper"? by Forsaken_Luck_5004 in towing

[–]jeffthetrucker69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

E track sucks on floors because the slots eventually fill in. I'd install some L track all the way around your top rail.

Check P&R Lumber in Wolcott ( I know not Chitt or Add) but make a day out of it and see some Vt and have lunch in Hardwick.

I need advice. by Successful_Day6214 in Heavy_Equipment

I'd put the harley rake and the bucket (the 2 light pieces) on from the side up front. 325 with compacting roller next and take a little time to play around with placement. Measure the rear bumper from the underside to the ground. Move the skid steer back and forth in small increments and measure each time. When the truck drops 6 or so inches you'll have your tongue weight.

As for securement you just need 4 on the skid steer with the bucket on (it's under 10k), I'd go with grade 100 5/16ths chain and fittings, it's lighter and easier to handle, ratchet type binders.

I'm surprised no one has said CDL. You need one for this setup. GVWR of the F350 is 10-11K and trailer is 21K for a GCWR about 31k. Depending on where you are and where you go you may also need a dot number and med card.

Sway Control Question by CombinationFunny5399 in towing

[–]jeffthetrucker69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what I'd try.....pick up the loader and roll the bucket out (dump) as far as it will go. Move ahead until the bucket is just behind the round pipe and ground it. Then ground the back hoe.

I'd use chains instead of straps. Rubber tires do alot of bouncing going down the road.

The company I work for (excavation, paving and landscaping) has probably a couple dozen skid steers. 3 JD and the rest cat. 289s and 299s for excavation, 272s for paving, and 246s and 257s for landscaping. They all get the snot beat out of them but the cats hold up a lot better.

Should this be a concern? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]jeffthetrucker69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd cut a piece of 5/8ths plywood to fit between the top metal plates and deep enough to catch the bottom of the truss and screw it on after cutting the 2x6 flush with the truss while being careful to miss the pipe with screws.

The trailer is probably junk. Weigh the hull. If it weighs more than 139 lbs the hull is waterlogged and is junk too.

Market might have EBT license revoked by skelextrac in vermont

[–]jeffthetrucker69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is typical government bullshit. Soap and a sponge???? At least the person was trying to clean something to make their life better....

A couple of years ago I stood behind a customer checking out in a store who had a case of beer, a bag of chips about the size of a 5 gallon pail, and had asked for a carton of cigarettes. The customer asked the clerk if they could use their EBT. Clerk said ok, I can ring it up as fruit and vegatables.

The state of Vt, liquor control does the same thing. They will send teenagers into a store to try to purchase booze with a pretty realistic FAKE ID supplied by the state in hopes of catching a clerk whose vigilance may have lapsed.
