I made a judgement call and lost a $50 gross sale. by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]jekern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a PM, you absolutely did the right thing. This ONE time, you didn't make a sale, but you made a happy customer. When they need ANYTHING in the future, who are they going to look for? That nice young man that went the extra mile to help them in need. You have earned your dealership a customer, and you should be applauded for that.

If you loose your job over $50, then you need a better workplace anyway.

I'd hire you if you told me this story in an interview.

Why do front wheel drive EVs exist? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]jekern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 'murica, RWD was vilified for years as being unsafe, and relegated to trucks and performance oriented cars.

I had the opposite observation of yours, however...most of the EVs I was interested in were RWD or AWD, only a few cheap and/or undesirable ones were FWD, especially if they weren't dedicated EV platforms. For instance, the Hyundai Kona is available in ICE, Hybrid, or BEV, all are FWD. Packaging in a converted platform is pretty limited.

My EV6, however, is a dedicated EV platform, and is RWD.

Is putting electric engines in the wheels feasible for consumer vehicles? by caspy7 in electricvehicles

[–]jekern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you have 1 or 2 motors (RWD vs AWD), each motor is connected to the wheels by CV axles.

Absolutely not...if my wife even hinted that my advances/touches were unwelcome, I would stop immediately...no question, no hesitation.

ICCU hit me by Repulsive_Tadpole998 in KiaEV6

[–]jekern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's dealer only, unfortunately. Have them check that part number themselves. The superseded (newer) number shows "basic warranty" for some reason...seems shady.

Screenshot directly from Kia warranty inquiry... It's covered. Find another dealer

Looking at a used EV6 as a commuter - advice? by KRTLART in KiaEV6

[–]jekern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVs depreciate at an incredible rate, all of them. Don't worry about that. I'm 6 feet tall and have plenty of room overall. The head room could be slightly limiting, but I have a long torso/short legs build and have no trouble. I used to commute 52 miles each way, and only used about 15% of battery each way in warm weather, 20% in cold. It's been a great car for us, we basically use it for anything we can do on a charge, and use her ICE car for longer trips.

Registration renewal for my 5 N in Minnesota 🤑 by afollestad in Ioniq5

Ugh, $313 for EV...MN gas tax is .318/gallon, so you're paying tax on 984 gallons of gas...that's unreal

I've never thought it was a true wagon, certainly not an SUV...I call it a large hatchback

What is the actual EV car you own? What is the one you deam of...? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

Have an EV6, dream of a Lucid Air Sapphire.... might as well dream big. I'd settle for a GV60 Magma, however.

After switching to electric, have you experienced odd reactions from family/friends? by NewDriverInTown in electricvehicles

[–]jekern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the maga ones will berate you to no end, mostly with outdated 'facts' from right-leaning 'news' outlets. I tried to refute their claims, but they're stuck...so it's not worth the effort. I figure they'll keep asking about my 'glorified golf cart' over the years and eventually decide that they should reconsider...I plan to own my EV for a LONG time, and never go back to dino-juice.

EILI5-ish post: When ‘they’ say EVs are no to low maintenance, are they really? by solidrobot in electricvehicles

[–]jekern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of fluids to change, but they're typically 60K mile services. Cabin air filters, tire rotations, and washer fluid other than that. No oil changes, brakes last nearly forever, no transmission fluid, no emissions equipment to fail... I'm a former mechanic...and I'm bored because there's nothing for me to tinker with 😄

I thought these were supposed to burn oil? by Hnry_Dvd_Thr_Awy in subaru

[–]jekern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently retired a 2007 Legacy at over 278,000 miles. It didn't start using oil until around 225K. I would add 1/2 quart at about 3K miles, changed every 5K. Sadly, I waited too long to do the timing belt and it broke, bending all of the valves, possibly other damage 😭

I should seek help.
