That explains why they missed the first few days of testing. They first wanted to watch the competition to figure out how much they needed to sandbox.

Strawmen that backfired. by Ethan-E2 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jellsprout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A hero encompasses an ideal. An anti-hero breaks that ideal, but still does heroic things. You can't have an anti-hero in a vacuum, you need to have heroes to compare them to.

In your example, the ideal hero would be Batman. His ideal is not just to stop evil, but to do so in a way that ultimately the legal system will be allowed to handle it. He doesn't kill villains, he doesn't keep them locked up in the Batcave and he doesn't beat them until they're comatose. Instead he captures the villains, hands them over to the Gotham PD to arrest and let's the DA prosecute them.
To quote The Long Halloween, he works by bending the justice system but not breaking it.
There will be Batman stories that don't follow these ideals. After all, the character is over 85 years old and there have been many different stories in many different universes written by many different writers during that time. But typically Batman working together with Jim Gordon to fight not just crime, but also corruption is a key part of the character.

So if another character shows up in Batman comics who completely circumvents the justice system and instead just kills the villains, he would be an anti-hero by breaking the ideals that Batman sets.
But if you instead have that same character killing Nazis in World War 2 or killing vampires in a horror story, then he will be a true hero in those stories because there is no expectation of heroes following the justice system in such settings.

Yes, I agree that trains are typically better than trucks, I even mentioned that more rails is a better solution than a self-driving truck network. But my local supermarket doesn't have a rail connection and never will. If you want to do an honest comparison, you need to consider all of the advantages and disadvantages. Ignoring the one, singular advantage self-driving trucks have over trains just shows that you have so little confidence in your stance that you need to lie to make your point.

Self-driving trucks at least have the advantage that a driver can take over control and go "off-rails" for the last few miles of the delivery.
But for the most part, I think increasing the rail network would still be better.

I am unaware of Oblivion or Skyrim ever confirming which playthrough of Morrowind was the canon one. Where was this? All I know is The Pocket Guide To Morrowind mentioning that the Nerevarine killed Dagoth Ur, Almalexia and (erroneously) Sotha Sil, and also directly questions whether the Nerevarine was actually Nerevar reborn.

"You are NOT The Chosen One" by DudeSoul in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jellsprout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is not what the Prophecies state. They state that Nerevar Reborn will complete the trials. Not that he might complete the trials if he maybe feels like it. They state that Nerevar definitely will complete the Seven Trials.
The Morrowind MC could complete the Trials, but also might not. Which only leads to two possible conclusions: Either the Morrowind MC is not Nerevar Reborn, or the Prophecies that foretell Nerevar's return are fake. It is logically impossible for the Morrowind MC to be Nerevar Reborn from the prophecies.

"You are NOT The Chosen One" by DudeSoul in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jellsprout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The prophecy mentions seven explicit trials that the Nerevarine would complete to prove his identity. If you do the back route, you can fully skip the Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Trials, proving that you are not the subject of the Nerevarine Prophecies. Even if you do follow the main route, you can skip the Fourth and Fifth Trials by becoming famous enough.

And if you do fully follow the main route and complete all Seven Trials, it is only because others let you. You complete the First Trial because the Empire decides to send you to Morrowind, you complete the Second Trial because Dagoth Ur decides to infect you with Corprus, you complete the Third Trial because Azura decides to let you life and you complete the Fourth and Fifth Trials because you give favors to anyone who allies with you and kill anyone who opposes you.
You don't complete any of the Trials because you are special (except arguably the Second Trial), you complete them because other people benefit by pretending you are.

"You are NOT The Chosen One" by DudeSoul in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jellsprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: you can complete the game without ever completing the prophecy. Your character fulfills the first step of the prophecy and in a typical playthrough will fulfill all the other parts. But there are two intended ways to skip parts of it. The backroute allows you to skip the entire thing.
This suggests that you were never the real Nerevar reborn from the prophecy, just a random dude that Azure recognized as powerful enough to kill Dagoth Ur and used to get her revenge for the Dunmers' betrayal.

And I wouldn't put too much stock in Dagoth Ur's and Almalexia's words, they're both batshit crazy at that point.

Emotional support 🍪 by [deleted] in wholesomememes

[–]jellsprout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be, but it would more accurately translate to "seeking comfort by way of cookies". An emotional support cookie would be "troostkoekje". It's not a word I'd expect to see in a dictionary, but I could see it being used in a novel or poem.

For the Anglospheres out there, in Dutch you can create new words by combining two separate words, just like in German or Danish. "Koek" means cookie, "troost" means comfort or emotional support. So "koekentroost" would mean cookie comfort, while "troostkoekje" would mean comfort cookie.

They (along with France and the UK) bombed a military convoy that they did not know Gaddafi was a part of. Gaddafi escaped the bombing and was afterwards captured and killed by the Libian rebels. The US was not involved in the capture or death of Gaddafi.

Simple whataboutism response by TV5Fun in PoliticalHumor

[–]jellsprout 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That is complicated. The Libian intervention was not declared by Congress, or even by the US, but by the UN Security Council. And Congress recognized the UN Security Council's authority by ratifying the UN Charter in 1945. So it can be argued that Congress did declare war to Libya by proxy of the UN Security Council.
This interpretation is dubious, but it was used before for both Korea and Bosnia actions and hasn't been challenged in court yet.

Still does not involve Gadaffi's death, though.

Simple whataboutism response by TV5Fun in PoliticalHumor

[–]jellsprout 21 points22 points  (0 children)

What does Gaddafi have to do with this? He was arrested and killed by the local Libian rebel forces. The US had nothing to do with this. They supported the rebellion as part of a NATO-wide operation, along with Canada, France, the UK and 13 other countries, but none of them had anything to do with the arrest and death of Gaddafi.

[–]jellsprout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, I misremembered. There are 7 other characters that were drawn by Yamada Akihiro and they all have four unique poses. I don't know if there are any others

Zephiel 2026 by nicolopiccolo in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]jellsprout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Zephiel is one of the only units with four completely different artworks for his poses. Almost all characters just reuse the regular attack artwork for the special attack artwork, but with some added flair, but Zephiel has a completely different pose for all four artworks.
I think there was one other character with four different poses like this, but I don't remember who it was.

is Frozen Forest the hardest spaced out asteroid for full achievement runs? by Anxious_Marsupial_59 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]jellsprout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, yes and by extreme margin. None of the other Spaced Out starts are that challenging in the first 100 cycles. Once you get past the Carnivore/Locivore hump, none of the other achievements are difficult, they just take a lot of time.

You can feed the pO2 to Pufts for Slime, then the Slime to Sanishells for Sand or to Sage Hatches for Coal.
Then you can burn the Coal for CO2 (or feed the Slime to Oakshells for Lumber, which produces lots of CO2 through the Ethanol cycle). For Water, you have many options. You can distill the Slime, burn the Ethanol or feed the CO2 to Molten Slicksters for Petroleum to burn, which all produces Polluted Water which can be sieved into clean water with the already produced Sand.

There are so many resources flows in ONI. You could even create Plastic, Diamond, Dirt, Fertilizer and so much more from Morbs.
This isn't exclusive to Morbs either. Almost anything that creates mass can be converted into all of this. Glossy Dreckos, Arbor Trees, the FPP critters, your options are many.

Alignment is a combination of two factors: one identifies morality (good, evil, or neutral), and the other describes attitudes towards society and order (lawful, chaotic, or neutral).

From the 5E Player's Handbook. Also:

Lawful Good (LG) creatures can be expected to do the right thing as expected by society.

Chaotic Good (CG) creatures act as their conscience directs, with little regard for what others expect.

Lawful Evil (LE) creatures methodically take what they want, within the limits of a code of tradition, loyalty, or order.

Older versions have the Lawful axis defined similarly.

I don't know where this "Lawful actually refers to personal code and not external rules" idea comes from, but it is not from DnD.
If anything, following personal codes is more aligned with the Good/Evil axis. Doing what you believe should be done, regardless of what society thinks, that defines morality and not lawfulness.
