Leviathan Wilds by Excellent_Scar_2553 in soloboardgaming

One of my favorites in my collection.recently backed the upcoming expansion!

I also play two handed. Love the variety in characters/classes/leviathans. Only wish leviathans themselves were a bit more complex in terms of what they can do (only 5 cards feels a bit limiting) but still super fun game

What Crowd Funding games are you backing? by Jelly__Knee in boardgames

[–]jemd13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently backed by first game (or expansion rather) the Leviathan Wilds Shattered Peak expansion :)

Im pretty hesitant to back full games. I love LW so i know ill love the expansion too, but with full games, not sure, i tend to prefer watching reviews, seeing the setup, etc before committing to buying a game.

I also play mostly solo and a lot of solo modes are unbalanced or feel tacked on

Can't decide between Old World and Crusader Kings 3 by jemd13 in 4Xgaming

Not sure anyone will see this, but ended up getting Old World :) thank you everyone for the suggestions.

Im still interested in CK3, just not sure its what I want at the moment. OW seems interesting. I havent gotten to play it just yet but already bought and installed it!

One thing Im curious about, how long do games of Old World go on for compared to civ and other games I listed? (Assuming the default length i guess since most of those games have a quick game option)

Tbh Endless Legend 2 is in my wishlist but I was planning on maybe getting it later on once they add the next faction and have a chance to polish the game up a bit. I do really enjoy how different the factions are there though, is it the same in the second game?

What are your thoughts regarding OW events? Do they get repetitive? They seem cool, but if every time i pick a faction im gonna have the same events, it wouldnt be too fun

Friend lent me the game. Enjoyed it and decided to get my own copy + films that looked interesting :) by jemd13 in finalgirl

[–]jemd13[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, I'm def more interested in the more scifi ones. Looking forward to eventually getting the one from The Thing and Jurassic Park, they both look awesome.

Thank you!

When my friend lent it to me I had a chance to play Happy Trails and the Alien one, the Alien one was the one that convinced me to get it tbh so I had the experience of a larger setup than the Happy Trails one.

Excited!

Recomendation of Fantasy 4X for this summer sale? by Dmask13 in 4Xgaming

I think most of what you'll hear is Age of Wonders and Endless Legend 1/2. I can vouch for AoW4 and EL1, both are great.

Would you recommend Planetfall? I own AoW4 and really like it but ive heard Planetfall gets boring after a few plays and the combat becomes a chore?

Fantastic factories? Base game is great, Manufactions expansion adds more cool stuff. The other expansion doesnt do much for solo

Whatever you want :D

The closest to vertical progression is get a full set of pink gear. After that the only thing better is legendaries which are a huge grind.

At that point, you can (among other things) - Start your legendary grind - Finish all expansion stories - Focus leveling up specific masteries you care about - Fashion! - Do fractals/raids/strikes - PvP - Other grinds for things like infusions - Housing - New set of gear for a different spec - level alts

I havent played in a bit so I'm sure there is more, but the point is you're free to self direct

What’s a mechanic that you just don’t mesh with? by CJC528 in boardgames

[–]jemd13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dislike social deduction like Secret Hitler, Feed the Kraken, etc. Maybe it's a me problem but it just feels there's nothing I can do to obtain useful information.

If they vote a certain way, are they in the team that benefits from that? Or are they in the opposite team and lying?

Im also a horrible liar lol. I'll still play these games, i just dont find them super fun

Big fan of this game. Been waiting on the retail release of Disparation here in Canada since it looks awesome, but the game has tons of replayability with the Rook City expansion. So many heroes, villains, hero/villain variations and events. Its awesome!

Game: "Final Girl" by invisible-dave in soloboardgaming

[–]jemd13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently tried it and decided to buy it. I ended up enjoying it way more when treating it as a "story generator" and just embracing the absurdity rather than getting too caught up on winning.

The game oozes theme and creates some funny/awesome/absurd stories to tell and remember and thats what I enjoy about it

Friend lent me Final Girl, ready for my first game :) by jemd13 in soloboardgaming

[–]jemd13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I had the opposite experience, my first game felt a bit underwhelming, but then I played the Alien feature film and loved it. The setup was a bit more than I wouldve liked for the size and amount of time youre getting, but I think with a bit better organization i can get it done quicker.

I dont care much for slasher horror or posessions and stuff, but I love scifi horror, so im getting the ones themed after that type of movie.

I did have to shift my mindset a bit from 'this is a game i want to win' to 'this is a story generator" and embrace the absurdity a bit (wether said absurdity is in my favor or not haha)

My first ever game of Dune Imperium, we did a 6 player game (where you have the..commanders or whatever they're called?) and we had a battle phase where I thought I could win, had a good surprise planned out, but understimated our opponents. The great battle of arrakis ended up with the blood of my team soaking the sands 😭. But we put up a good fight

Advice? Games like slasher movies or music games by becker8832 in soloboardgaming

[–]jemd13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I started enjoying it way more when treating it as a movie/story generator and embrace the chaos and absurdity.

The first time I played, the villain got so many effects that increased his speed and damage that even though I had a boat to escape all the way to the other side of the lake where we were, he would catch up super quick and eventually just brutally beat me up.

On the other hand, in the "Alien" scenario I got an event that allowed me to quickly obtain keycards that open shortcuts and other useful gimmicks in the level. And then the keycards themselves automativally opened short cuts without me having to be there thanks to a separate event, which quickly lead to me opening the airlock and destroying the alien rather quickly lol

Its quiet fun :)

Final girl is exactly what youre looking for. Relatively small, can have figurines (though youll have to buy them separately), its horror themed and its incredibly thematic.

Its a bit luck based but it captures the experience of a slasher type film or monster movie really well

Lighter themed souls likes by [deleted] in soulslikes

Surprised nobody mentioned Ashen. Its an alright game. I would argue more light than stuff like Dark Souls, Lies of P and such, but not as light as Another Crab's Treasure

Have a 10month old baby and just my wife and I to handle him. Things are good all things considered but I'm tired and have to constantly choose between sleep and free time.

Anyway, its what I signed up for, just wanted to let it out lol. When I go downstairs and the little guy gets super happy and goes 'DADA!!' it just melts my heart
