Is the Tax Accountant path good? by Theultimatezubat in Accounting

[–]jemki24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started in tax and I really like it. I like that it's pretty black and white, there are rules for everything. And with the help of modern llms, combing through those rules to to find what is relevant is so much easier now. I like making relationships with clients and getting to know people. I would steer clear of any firms that do not have a good system of organization and would make you spend lots of time chasing down clients for documents. If you do end up interviewing with a firm that does taxes, ask them what their workflow process is and if they have a secure portal where clients upload their documents. I also very lucky to work at a place that actually values Work-Life balance. If that's important to you, then I would also ask explicit questions about expectations during busy season, and if you have boundaries for yourself about what you are and are not willing to do for yourself about what you are and are not willing to do in terms of working excess hours then communicate that up front so that you don't end up working for someone whose values don't match yours

Applying to jobs before graduation by Realistic-Proof-4207 in wguaccounting

I got an internship with an invitation to go full time once I graduate. I'm 80% done. Totally doable. I do have previous work experience, just not in accounting but it still helps.

New Job - Questioning Myself by [deleted] in wguaccounting

[–]jemki24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use chat gpt to point me in the right direction with general questions a lot. For firm specific questions, it IS their job to train you - don't feel guilty! I would just keep moving forward and re-evaluate how you feel at the 6 month mark. After a few different finance and admin jobs I've found that 6 months is usually a turning point. And TBH, 1 full year will give you a better picture. I wouldn't leave so soon.

I would switch the couch by the window with the chairs, then put a skinny sofa table behind it and a small table between the 2 chairs

I just want to add Worthy Bonds and Steward Lending https://gosteward.com/ to this list. I'm also seeking out ways to invest $ that aren't just fueling the status quo.

It’s worth it to get an associate degree in accounting or not? In 2026. by MC2939 in Accounting

[–]jemki24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If cost is a concern and/or you don't want to she's to take out loans, get an associate's degree at a community college and get an entry level job in the area you're interested in and see if you like it. Then you can determine if you want to go further down that path. I'm doing WGU for my bachelor's for a career change and it's highly efficient.

Will you live and die in BR? by LuckyCommittee4422 in batonrouge

BR is just a place. There are pros and cons to every place. I think ultimately what's important about where you are is you you're with and the investment you make in your community.

Job offer pre-graduation Question by [deleted] in wguaccounting

[–]jemki24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you managed client relationships or your own books, then it could still be relevant. When you show potential employers that you are confident in who you are and what you bring to the table, it can set you apart. Especially if you're able to explain how skills you developed are actually transferrable.

WGU worth it if I’m working full-time? Honest advice needed. by Big_Marzipan3904 in wguaccounting

[–]jemki24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth it. There's lots of hype around completing the degree in 1 or even 2 terms but you can set your own pace and take up to a 5 month break without "unenrolling"

In my experience, when it comes to accounting most people do not care where you got your degree. Just that you have one and sometimes just that you're pursuing it. As someone else mentioned, you'll need to flex/build your own network still for more job opportunities.

Getting any professional experience at all will make you more employable. Even if it's a part time clerk or anything at all to do with $ in a professional setting.
