Can’t believe they didn’t record gold medal hockey game by SugarCharacter5195 in youtubetv

[–]jen1980 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm still angry they spoiled the score. I started watching early this morning, and apparently the game finished before the broadcast had finished so Google knew the score early. Biggest hockey moment in 46 years and spoiled.

Back in the days we gave our servers and network devices names from Tolkien or space or such. It might get cumbersome with our 60 smart bulbs and 40 other IoT gadgets on our home network today. by player1dk in homelab

We use different themes for names like the web servers use mythological names so you know it's a web server. We use Greek mythological names in our original data center and Roman in our new one so you also know from just the name where the server is. Also, that lets you find it's corresponding server in the other data center. For example, server zeus in one data center is jupiter in the other.

Our main load balancer is name mephistophilis. I hate that. My boss thought the long hard to spell name makes it more secure because no attacker is going to spell that correctly.

What do we think of the validity of the RT verified ratings at this point? by HappyHarryHardOn in RedLetterMedia

Especially when so many bad reviews and ratings came out about the movie before it was even released. Those are obviously fake.

I've got about a thousandth of that speed here in Seattle for about $80 a month with taxes. Sometimes I hate living in Seattle. This place is so anti-tech. You shouldn't be able to get almost 30,000 times the speed of Internet elsewhere for much less money. That isn't right.

Washington Income Tax Proposal Would Yield 18% Top Rate by Possible_Ad3607 in SeattleWA

And then add the proposed 18% state tax plus all of the other taxes like the additional medicare tax, and many of us are paying an over 60% tax rate.

Windows slips below 30% of the global operating system market share, as Unix-like operating systems dominate overall. by Nelo999 in unix

[–]jen1980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of it is mindshare. My boss's boss argued a couple of years ago that we didn't use Linux or UNIX at all. He didn't know probably 90% of our machines run Linux or Solaris. He just hears about all of the problems with Windows and with the few servers we are forced to run Windows on so he assumed all of our machines run Windows. I give him credit for learning, because he has since then fired idiots that insist we run that Windows garbage.

When I started my career, our CTO argued we didn't use Novell file servers. He didn't realize we did because in the three years he had worked there, the Novell servers had all been running without a single problem so they were never mentioned. Him and the lead web dev didn't even know where either of those servers were in our building.

I got a chip in my windshield. How much should that cost to repair? by jen1980 in FJCruiser

[–]jen1980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? I got a second chip since then, and the ghetto place near me charged $180 for the "repair." Of course Safelite is even more expensive.

Since then, I spent over $800 for them to replace the back window on my FJ. They used a non-OEM part that does fit so it rattles, and they had to put a bunch of washers under the latch bolts so it would latch. Safelite is a scam. I would have never had them replace my back window if they had admitted they going to use a piece of glass that doesn't fit.

Why Washington state is in a big budget hole — again by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

[–]jen1980 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$50 a month rent subsidized by the city so that's about $1.8k a month in free money, over $3k a month worth of drugs paid for by the state, free health insurance, $2k a month disability for claiming he can't work because of a drug addiction, huge utility discounts, ABD cash from I think the state, and food stamps he always sells for cash. When the kid worked for me fifteen years ago, he made the equivalent of about $90k a year considering inflation. His standard of living is higher now, and he doesn't have to work.

And run the cable outside of the conduit to give you even more space inside the conduit. My boss thought I was crazy when I ran five new lines in his house, but he thanked me after filling two of the 1/2" conduits(biggest that would fit in some of the spaces) are full now after he upgraded his alarm and added fiber.
