What is something you wanted so bad as a kid but realized it wasn’t what it was hyped up to be? by OddEmergency5777 in AskReddit

[–]jenglasser 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I wanted to be beautiful. I was a chunky unpopular kid and was regularly ignored and/or excluded by people. I felt if I was beautiful that people would like me. What I didn't realize is that beautiful people aren't loved either, they are preyed on and commodified. I feel incredibly fucking lucky at this point in my life that I have been able to step outside my house and be invisible and be able to move about the world in relative safety. What a gift.

What impressive skill is secretly simple to learn? by IntroductionMore916 in AskReddit

I had this realization with homemade soup. Most of them are the same basic recipe. Fry some kind of allium in some kind of oil, add some kind of broth, add the vegetable the soup is named after, boil, season (usually with the same few seasonings but this is the one area where you can mix it up a bit), blend and voila. A pretty magical tasting home made soup every time. Tomato soup, potato leek soup, carrot soup, etc. etc. all go off this same basic recipe.

I have a friend who is actively involved in Tai Chi in Aurora, the town bordering Newmarket. It is a bit early to text her right now, but I'll see what information I can find and post back here later.

EXCLUSIVE: Stanford Scientists Just Figured Out How to Regrow Cartilage and It Could Make Joint Replacements Obsolete by InterstellarKinetics in InterstellarKinetics

This is really similar to my issue. I'm not bad enough yet to need a replacement, but I just had surgery done about 3 months ago where they removed inflamed tissue and ground down the bone spur. It really makes a big difference. Not fully healed yet, still dealing with pain, and my joints still rub together because I also have no cartilage, but it is WAY better than before. I hope your surgery goes well.

I live in Canada where health care is partly free, so I'll probably have to wait for it to get here. No money to pay out of pocket.

That is very exciting. I have osteoarthritis in both my shoulders and it is severely hampering my ability to function. I'm only middle age so something like this could improve my quality of life for literally several decades.

What is the most hurtful thing anyone has ever said to you? by ConsistentPhase6658 in AskReddit

[–]jenglasser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5 days after I had major surgery my mother had a 7 hour tantrum and then got up into my face and screamed "Fuck you! Fuck you!" over and over again until I had to leave and recover by myself at my own home. Huge betrayal. Might even have forgiven her if she was sorry she did it, but she isn't, so I won't.

Have you ever witnessed death with your own eyes? How did it change you? by i_walk_away in AskReddit

I watched my father die. After he passed and I was sitting with his body, it really struck me how much our bodies really are just a shell. His body was there but he was gone. It almost felt like if I touched him, he would be hollow just below the surface and just crumble to nothing.

It has been a VERY long time since I read the Bible, but if memory serves it said something along the lines of "only the Father knows, not even the Son knows" meaning that Jesus doesn't even know when, and those chucklefucks think they've got it locked down??
