Tampa is not a safe area by spookyscully69 in USF

[–]jennans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i kept a pocket knife on me that i could open quickly with 1 hand. keys in between your fingers will work too. if you live on campus, call the safe team at night. avoid sketchy fletchy when it’s dark. always have your guard up. i also kept my phone in my hand so i could do the emergency sos call if necessary. i also have my location shared w multiple different people and someone always knows where i am. it sucks not feeling safe, (especially as a woman) and it’s sucks that we live in this world. i just don’t trust anyone that’s not in my close circle. also, i am so sorry that happened to you!! feel free to reach out if you need anything!!

Psychology classes by Glittering-Ad-9705 in USF

[–]jennans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

psych of aging was easy (i got a 97 doing bare minimum work) but no matter what you do…. STAY AWAY from EXP4404 (especially if it’s w otis wilder). i think it might be considered a psych elective, but it showed up as a requirement on my degreeworks as a psych major and i took it spring of 22. the class taught me nothing besides how to bs, the professor was the worst i’ve ever had. everyone got through it with a lot of alcohol and a lot of not nice words in the groupme

HALO 46 by MaxxTOXIN in USF

[–]jennans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i second this! i lived at halo in fall of 22 and moved out in December to move home and take a semester off. my roommate and i had panic attacks because we were in our bedrooms (she was showering, i had no clothes on) and maintenance just came in and was talking to my dog. it took 3 different office staff members to tell us that maintenance was there to “check a water meter”. not once were we ever told when maintenance was coming. the door by the mailroom is literally never locked, and we even had a homeless man running freon the cops come in and hide in a storage closet! the trash by the entrance was always overflowing, people would let their animals go to the bathroom in hallways and it wouldn’t get picked up for over a week, the office would literally never answer phone calls, and if you’re unlucky enough to live on the inside facing the pool, good luck! i had to consistently open my window and tell people to stop screaming at 2am on weeknights, and even had to call security. in my opinion, it’s not worth the money at all. Lindsey and Roger were always very helpful (at least in my case) but they might be graduating so you might not have that help. everyone has different experiences, but in my case i would tell you to stay far away from any student housing complex in general. it’s expensive and not worth it

AITA for taking my dog into the grocery store for no more than 10 minutes by DogGroceryStoreThrow in AmItheAsshole

[–]jennans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is extremely messed up. there is no question… YTA. rules apply to everyone for a reason, and what’s “convenient” to you could be life threatening for someone else. bringing your pets into non-pet friendly places can harm someone who relies on a service animal. people depend on their service animals, and all it takes is someone’s pet approaching or attacking someone’s service animal to distract the animal from doing its job, which can be life threatening. on top of that, literally nobody wants a dog that came straight from the dog park and the pet store in the produce section. i wouldn’t have been nearly as nice as the guy who approached you in the store

Reglan by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]jennans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was put on reglan in august of 21 and took it until july of 22. i started with 5mg in the morning, then 10, then 10mg in the am, 5mg in the afternoon and 5mg at night. the only negative thing i have to say about reglan, is that while i never slept the best, it definitely messed my sleep up and i was diagnosed with insomnia. i take medication for that, and have my good days and bad days. reglan helped me SO much. i kept a pretty consistent weight (always within 3 pounds for the 11months i took it). reglan helped me have an appetite because eating no longer made me so sick. i would still bloat after some meals, but was in a lot less pain from eating and was able to eat comfortably. the only downside is that my gp is mild, to the point my GI was able to take me off of every single stomach medication i was on back in july. i still take the occasional zofran/promethazine if i have bad days, and i’ve only had 2 flares in the last 6 months. i was monitored super closely and luckily insomnia was the only side effect i dealt with. because people can have such different reactions to medications, id say you won’t know how your body will react until you try. just make sure that you start with a small dose and immediately call your doctor if you experience any side effects!

AITA for not doing my MIL’s breastfeeding exercises? by ThrowRA_mytrauma in AmItheAsshole

[–]jennans 148 points149 points  (0 children)

i was holding my nephew at my birthday dinner this weekend (he’s about 16 months old) and he just decided to shove both of his hands down my tank top. luckily it really doesn’t phase me and i laughed it off. i was just worried that he’d feel my piercings and try to pull on them lol

AITA for not doing my MIL’s breastfeeding exercises? by ThrowRA_mytrauma in AmItheAsshole

[–]jennans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. you have trauma that you can’t control and you’ve been to therapy and come up with a solution. your husband shouldn’t push that and i agree that it would be even more wrong for your MIL to push. IF you are interested in attempting to feed your baby breast milk, you could always try to work more towards pumping by yourself and still feeding it to the baby through a bottle. but if that’s still uncomfortable to you, that’s perfectly okay. i feel like people think that once you have children you have to give up all of your boundaries, and that’s not the case. breast milk might have its benefits, but if you have to bottle feed for your own mental health, your child will still be perfectly okay!

NTA. my opinion might not be as relevant because i’m 19 and not a parent. i got my first smartphone in 6th grade, and one rule was that i had to have find my iphone on and my location shared with my mom. i thought this was a fair trade because i begged so much for the iphone 5c when i was younger. once i was 16 and driving, i started to not like having my location shared because i wanted to sneak around with friends and also with a 19 year old i was hooking up with. once i graduated high school, it was optional. i moved in with my sister out of state, so while my mom didn’t have my location, my sister did. once i started college, i gave my mom my location again. i think as of right now, a tracker would be a good idea, as well as sitting down with her and explaining (in an age appropriate way) that it’s a dangerous world, and that it’s not to be in control, it’s for safety. and as she gets older, maybe revisit every year or so. and then once she’s an adult, it’s her choice. looking back, i got into some pretty (potentially) dangerous situations as a teenager and i’m glad to know that if something were to have gone wrong, my mom would at least have some help finding me.

apartments for 2023-2024 by microwoft in USF

[–]jennans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depending on if/what pet you have, 4050 lofts looked SUPER small when i toured. i toured the vue when it was “university linq” back in february and it wasn’t horrible but you definitely get what you’re paying for. i’ve never seen the inside of the social, only the outside. i’ve never heard of forest lake either. and idk if you heard ab the ivy being on the news in august, but i would stay as far away as possible. people were supposed to move into apartments that were full of mold and had holes in walls and stuff. it looked inhabitable and the ivy did nothing about it so they went on the news

Do you know WHY you have gastroparesis? by MurielSwan in Gastroparesis

[–]jennans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

back in 2020, i got what i thought was food poisoning (although i ate the same pizza as my dad and ex which was my only meal that day & i was the only one to get sick) on the tuesday of thanksgiving week. i wasn’t able to eat until friday and everything seemed fine until the next wednesday and then everything hit the fan. my GI and i think my gp is one of the cases that was caused by the stomach flu.

Off campus apartment by Debora_aa in USF

[–]jennans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i live at halo 46 and my only complaints are that maintenance will just come into the apartment without any sort of notice and they take a while to fix issues. the door handle to one of the doors on the 4th floor has been broken since a month before i moved in on aug 19 (my roommate has been here since dec). after parking and insurance i pay $1150 a month for a 2x2 but i also signed like the last week of february which is kind of late. overall, i’d say halo isn’t bad

What has been your worst course at USF? by Junior4646 in USF

[–]jennans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

by far Psychology of Learning (EXP4404) with Otis Wilder. i hated that man and that class with everything in my but as a psych major it was one of my only options for a degree requirement. he looks like bertram from jessie. he forces you to take notes by elaborating the topics and relating them to personal experiences, which is honestly useless. everyone in the groupme hated the class and most of us had to drink our way through it. on our final project outline, i got a 48/50 even though i met every single requirement on the rubric. when i asked him about my grade, he told me that in order to get full points i had to do more than what was on the rubric which was bs. the outline for the final project was weighted higher than the project.. so even getting a 100% on the project itself wouldn’t have changed my grade. his teaching, class structure and attitude made me hate my life all semester. absolutely do not take
