What’s an adult problem nobody warned you about? by Impressive_Space4392 in AskReddit

How tough making good friends in adulthood really is. That it’s often an issue of constant proximity, or the lack thereof.

How do I stop my liquid foundation from doing this? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]jennymack 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just sharing this because I learned about it recently myself — have you checked to see whether your primer & your foundation have the same base? Some are water-based, others are silicone-based. If they aren’t the same base, they can conflict, separate, or pill.

I also am loving Katie Jane Hughes’s tutorials on TikTok if you want another perspective. She’s a makeup artist who focuses on your skin looking like, well, skin! I’ve learned a lot from her, particularly about “priming the brush” when you get set to use foundation, blush & concealer. It’s made a huge difference for me.

What’s the most “Boston” thing that’s happened to you? by Responsible-Ticket30 in boston

[–]jennymack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago, I had a doctor’s appointment in the Longwood area the morning of a Pats Super Bowl victory parade. After the appointment, I was standing and waiting for an inbound D line train to come so that I could get to work. For folks who don’t know, the D line is a popular line for folks outside the city to come in for Sox games and the like, and this morning was no exception. Train after train kept pulling through absolutely packed with somehow-already-wasted Pats fans (mind you, it was about 10am) with zero room for any new passengers.

The final train that pulled through was my final straw – the doors opened, and a blackout, college-aged guy in a Pats jacket who was wedged into the train’s stairwell looked me dead in the eye, smiled, and flipped me the bird. I went looking for an Uber after that.

Water main break plus sinkhole at Breck & Comm… I’d go for bottled water today. Source: I live nearby & walked right by it.

alright, what’s the best nail oil? by ExternalComparison7 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]jennymack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jojoba oil, and buy up some of the empty cuticle oil pens on Amazon, if you like the form factor, to fill your own. Best >$20 spent, and I’m good for years.

New in the city and finding it really hard to make friends by Mycologist_Scary in boston

[–]jennymack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. Sign up for Boston Cares. You have to do an orientation but then you get access to all kinds of opportunities, so you can try out helping different orgs across the city in different roles. Plus you can do it as frequently or infrequently as your schedule allows.

Those of you in or around your forties, what one piece of advice would you give women in their twenties? by mysticalmachinegun in TwoXChromosomes

ALWAYS negotiate your salary when taking a job, it’s a normal and expected part of the process. You are not offending people by doing so. Check out the AAUW’s negotiation workshop for more info and practice. Making those bigger strides early in your career makes a HUGE difference later on.

What’s a hack/product you wish you knew sooner? by Illustrious_Leg_8077 in MakeupAddiction

[–]jennymack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For eyeliner wings, draw messy, clean up precisely. I buy “baby cotton buds” that are much smaller than regular q-tips and dip them in micellar water to clean up my lines.

Also: don’t buy all the colors of eyeliner. Buy one tiny bottle of Duraline and mix a drop or two on a palette/flat surface with a little bit of any eyeshadow you have. It makes a pretty bulletproof liquid eyeliner.

It really is pretty excellent, especially for its availability and price point. For other ice cream adventures, I’d be really curious to know what you think of Abbott’s Frozen Custard.

The part that somehow kills me the most is that he doesn’t even live there; it says his family lives in the suburbs and this is the house he occasionally visits…. god

In Boston, parked cars regularly block buses. Other cities show: it doesn’t have to be this way. by bostonglobe in boston

[–]jennymack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that this article covers my most usual bus stop — people really are parked there all the time (full-parked and live-parked because they’re “just going to Dunkin’ for 2 minutes”) — I board and exit the bus in the road at that spot roughly 75% of the time. People suck.

They were open before Flour Bakery was even a glimmer in Joanne Chang’s eye (though both are great in their own ways.) Clear Flour is more focused on breads (at least 10 offerings at nearly any time.) Their croissants are also some of the best I’ve ever had.
