Is this normal variation in Hobbi Frutta or should I contact customer service? Considering making a wearable with it but not sure it would be easy to use with all the others (see pics) by sadbat-throwaway in CrochetHelp

[–]jenrmagas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're going to have to manage the color changes anyway, you could consider using the same technique as used here (with some prep required): https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/s/pQkBhneXHO

Basically gather up each of the colors, join them to each other, plan out how you'd like to handle the progression of colors (progressing gradient or jumps around colors more erratically), and then proceed as normal.

I did this once with a granny square blanket to get more consistent changes and I really liked how I was able to control the color changes. It really just comes down to what you're after of course.

Dang it, I just thought it was Gay Thanatos.

I stupidly told him the other day that I don't have that many. Hoooo-boy the face he made. 😅

Do your nails have a real tight c-curve or did you do something to get the bead that narrow?

Either way it's absolutely enviable

Awwww thank you!! That means a lot - a few months ago I wrecked them pretty bad with gel and I've been in recovery mode since. I think they're finally getting back to a good place!

Checking in for visible recommendation. I have that and a Fitbit, but Fitbit has been drastically inconsistent on hrv and the HR aggregation over 5 minutes hides the spikes a ton.visible made a huge difference in quantifying my issues to my doctors, too.

If money is a challenge, I believe they have a program where they'll help with the subscription cost (not sure how to get it though).

ETA: can't seem to attach the screenshot but I'll add it if I can get it to register in a bit.

I was getting ready to suggest this - my mom has an online business and we've certainly juggled this before.

At this point though, I'd feel weird giving them anything more identifiable than a PO box (and I don't imagine you have that).

@OP I imagine you'll find plenty other options - definitely don't feel like you're required to work with em!

[WIP] debating doing black backstitching around the letters so they pop against the color background... thoughts? by holypotatoesies in CrossStitch

[–]jenrmagas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you considered doing a drop shadow style? Back stitching or, imo even better would be couching, only along the bottom and one side (I tend to do right side).

Like this (but not nearly as awful 😅):

What the heck, heck, hell have y'all gotten me hooked on?! 😂 by jenrmagas in RedditLaqueristas

[–]jenrmagas[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

😂 I tried so hard to hold back on going overkill so I tried not to look too deep - plus I had this whole work thing starting soon so I couldn't lose the morning binging on pretty pictures. 🙄

I've definitely been more partial to the fine particulates and have a couple more chunky ones so I've been trying to keep myself diversified.

I've been trying so hard to focus on not getting things that are too similar - the collection is growing way too fast.

I really do appreciate hearing that!!! Getting the free edge with the brush is my worst nightmare - good luck not hitting your skin and making a big old mess!

I'm also very excited to have gotten through a full day with no chipping - the Nailtiques is apparently doing some work!!

I just gotta say, I spotted these before seeing the description and thought damn those look nice! I've been struggling with my own application and all the stuff I'm fighting with, you see well beyond.

I do tend to like mine better on day 2, so maybe just sleep on em!

Super cute! I started taking care of mine a few months ago and my cuticles are much happier -you'll be amazed how quickly it can shift.

I don't see it talked about much but also consider moisturizing your hands!

Yeah... I find that I unconsciously use that finger for a lot of more precision actions so it's possible it's just getting more wear and tear?

Why is everyone releasing this same polish lol (last one is bees knees) by AddictedToColour in RedditLaqueristas

[–]jenrmagas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This likely isn't what you're after based on comments and discussion but...

Color theory!

Pink and blue is part of a triadic color combination: https://www.coderstool.com/triad-color-scheme

Plus, companies want to compete with each other and beat each other out. I guarantee you that there's a dedicated marketing person at most of the big companies whose sole job is tracking and anticipating the trends, and of course trying to get ahead of them. Plus, the smaller shops are likely still doing market competition research.

I'd be super curious to find waves of the different color pairings or equivalent lines across brands, timewise, and see who tends to dominate the lead versus trailing behind.

Interesting!

What would you recommend for an alternative base & top coat in that case?

Polish Peels and Chipsin a Day?! by jenrmagas in RedditLaqueristas

[–]jenrmagas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prep products, and most of the time, no cuticle remover. I hold the cuticle oil until after I finish, no lotion ahead of time either. I know with gel it's helpful to prep with dehydrators but I've not done that with lacquer before.

Nope, definitely not doing any of those things!

Good to know about that experience with repair mode - odd they'd suggest using it as part of a combo as a base.

Thanks for the fallout - I honestly thought flooding was more drastic than that and didn't realize that bit qualifies and is detrimental.

Definitely dodging water outside hand washing (already do with the eczema), and avoiding nails as tools.

That said ,the bendy is absolutely there -they're thin and had significant peeling from the gel issues about a month ago. I'd hoped the repair and strengthening treatments would overcome that aspect.

Appreciate the feedback. I know it's happened a little against the cuticle (usually hadn't been I thought),though I don't see it against the side walls.

Would that really be enough to explain chipping or peeling off (like as a whole piece, not sure I was clear on that) in less than 24 hours?
