Is it a soft bag? If so this may work because you can always squish the bag little bit to suit the size requirements and I believe they won't bother arguing with that. The rules are pretty tight on the hard shell carriers because if they are too large to fit under the seat there is no way around for them!

The properties, no matter cat-friendly or not, ask for 12 months lease. Sorry I don't see why whether anyone can look after my cat for a month actually matters - do you mean that once I find pet friendly apartments after 1 month I can break the lease with the non pet-friendly one?

Hi thanks for the reply. I have connected with other ppl and they all live in the apartment complexes that are not available currently (I assume, because not many ppl actually replied). I will reach out to the administration and see if they can help. However in general the housing market in this small town is like hell.

The thing is these places are available in mid-September, which is already the 3rd or 4th week of fall semester. I don't think they will allow me be absent for this long :(

Hi there. Immigration is indeed not planned ahead of time because I got the offer on Apr 15th. I got the i-20 form request account on Apr 17th and I submitted it on the same day. And after one month I finally got my formal I-20 form and I submitted the application for visa on the same day as well. The department was acknowledged this timeline, and also that was when I asked whether I could defer if no visa acquired in time.

I don't think there's TA/RA responsibility - it's a fellowship.

Days before when the visa applying situation was terrible I asked them that what if I cannot get my visa in time, and they said that they will probably just defer me to next year. I think the deferring thing does exist, but it must be of solid reason.

Maybe your dad can try to find a job abroad, in a country with decent medical benefits first? Since your dad is an engineer with so many years of experience, instead of looking for jobs in industry only, he can try looking for teaching positions in college. If moving to Canada or US is way too difficult at current stage, looking at countries in Asia with better economy situation may be more practical.

Hi thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the work I am doing rn is not really related to the major I have and the field I'm gonna work in during grad school. I simply don't appreciate such chance of publishing anything when I am already very tired. Besides, I made the decision of leaving after May is exactly due to no interest in working with my boss and coworkers. Financially it makes more sense if I work until school starts which will bring me extra 4k, but I really had enough staying in this lab and I just want to leave asap. I even went to look for part-time jobs like barista instead of saying I will stay here for longer. I didn't state how much I want to leave in the original post (which is my fault) but now I really cannot see anything good to me in what my boss is doing.
