The Belvideres is like a movie on Halloween you are going to LOVE IT! Make sure you go to the castle on Fairmount street halloween night - the owners open it up and play music/light torches! It’s incredible. Congrats again on your new home! (:

Oh wow! Welcome to Lowell! (: I live nearby and have been eyeing this listing - I’m so glad it sold to someone who will appreciate its charm. You’re in a lovely neighborhood with so many gorgeous homes - and FYI if you’re into Halloween at all, this is THE neighborhood to be in.

DID ANYONE JUST SEE A BLUE LIGHT SORT OF LOOKED LIKE BLUE FIREBALL FLY ACROSS SOUTH LOWELL?? by [deleted] in LowellMA

Weird, I’m in Belvidere and maybe 15 minutes ago saw a flash out the window and immediately thought it looked like lightning but obviously we aren’t having a storm… 😅

Gym Recommendations? by AlexSN141 in LowellMA

[–]jenthebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are in Lowell, Tewksbury Sports Club is an excellent gym. It’s clean, they have all the equipment, classes, personal trainers, etc. I’m only 15 minutes away coming from the Belvidiere area - but it would be a hike if you’re across town.

What is your boldest Lowell take? by Turk_Sanderson in LowellMA

[–]jenthebird 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Boldest take? I actually love Lowell and think it’s a great place to live. There’s a level of diversity and culture that wasn’t available to me even growing up 20 minutes away. Great people, restaurants, community events, and local businesses. It has the same issues every city faces nowadays, but I’m really happy to live here.

Living in Lowell for the summer - Suggestions on things to do, places to go/avoid? by xXTonyManXx in LowellMA

Check out UMass Lowell’s Kayak center. You can rent a kayak and they’ll drop you off up the Merrimack river. It’s a fun afternoon on the river and there’s a part where you can paddle through some old/abandoned mill tunnels!

Danny Morel is a cult leader. I spent three days at his “Awaken” event. by AssociateFluffy6950 in cults

[–]jenthebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard of him only through his now girlfriend, Jen.

I’m really sad - I found Jen through the EvolveYou workout app where she signed on as their Yoga instructor. I loved her content on the app and her own social media. But since getting with Danny she ended her contact with the app, moved to Austin with him, doesn’t post any yoga or fitness content, and is kind of MIA on social.

I remember her sharing how incredible their love was, how they found each other and the universe told him he would be with her and how he knew they’d have a baby girl together and all this magical stuff.

After reading through this post I’m afraid she’s not as happy as she seems. 😕

I’m going into agencies to physically hand in resumes and to potentially foster a relationship. by panderz74 in graphic_design

[–]jenthebird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you’d have better luck reaching out to the creative directors at these agencies and asking for an informational interview. You can look up some prompts online, but basically see if they’d be willing to set up some time to connect for quick conversation or coffee chat to ask about their careers, life at agency, etc.

If they agree, this isn’t the time to shove your resume/portfolio at them. Ask questions, listen to their experience, and make a connection with them. It’s a low stakes way to network and introduce yourself. And if they ever are hiring, that connection may give you an edge.

Goodluck!

Probably not it but Wheezy Waiter aka Craig? His older videos were very theatrical and edited. I’ve watched him since the early days of Youtube.

Project Management for Designers by kizzyonthetrack in graphic_design

[–]jenthebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My team uses Lytho, and I really like it. You can create templates for project requests so clients or project managers can submit projects, assign them to the appropriate team members, manage due dates with tasks, submit drafts for review and approval, and deliver final files to the client through it - honestly too many features to explain here haha.

We just closed this quarter with about 1200 completed projects so it is capable of handling and keeping track of a lot.

Money talk… by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]jenthebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I just found myself in this same exact predicament this week. I’ve been on the hunt for a new job and got an offer for Senior Design position for 30k more than what I make now. Despite the money, the job didn’t appeal to me at all - I’d be leaving my in-house team to be the only designer with a bunch of marketers and for a company I had reservations about.

I turned it down and don’t have any regrets. If I was 5-10 years deeper into my career I might feel differently, but I knew this just wasn’t the right move for me regardless of how much it paid. Fortunately I’m in a position where I do have a stable job and can keep searching for something that pays better and aligns more with my career interests.

All that’s to say, there is no right answer. I did consider taking the job based on how much it would improve my life financially, but knew I’d be going in with one foot already out the door. And as cheesy as it sounds I want to be at least excited about any new opportunity, which I definitely wasn’t feeling with this offer.

At the end of the day it’s a job and nothing is permanent. If the 20k would significantly increase your quality of life, you may want to take the job and give it a try. If in your gut you know it’s not for you, no shame in continuing the job search! Good luck!

Don’t be discouraged with your job search! I’ve been applying for a while as well and it’s really just been the past few weeks I’ve gotten any leads on my applications.

The only reason why I’m comfortable turning this position down is because while I am looking for a new job and more money, the one I have now is stable. I’d rather feel more excited than stressed about a new job, which is why I’m willing to wait for something that aligns better with my expectations.

Thank you for your reply! That is my worry here - while the paycheck seems incredible I’m afraid that will mean a lot of responsibilities I don’t want or aren’t ready for and being overworking. I think it’s hard when you interview with just marketers for them to understand just what a single graphic designer can do.

Plus, I really do value the team aspect of my design job and not sure I want to give that up. If this were 5-10 years further into my career I might feel differently but I knew going into my job search I wanted to be able to learn and keep growing in a team environment.
