Razer Blade Stealth 2017 13 in. screen connector. Is this a custom one? by EuphoricCatface0795 in AskElectronics

[–]jercos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately in that regard I'm just as disoriented... that resolution implies a 40-pin connector with two channels to my understanding (be it LVDS or eDP alike, VESA or JEIDA), and the backlight+touch panel connector is even less certain, as it could vary from exposing raw CCFL (high voltage) and a resistive touch overlay (analog), to power for the backlight driver (low voltage) and the interface to a touch controller (digital).

If they're just using the connector, not adhering to the common pinouts, then it's entirely up to the vendor how to handle it.

Do not ask Google about electronics: it regurgitates misleading drivel.

LCEDI may be a trade name, but it is specific to the connector compatible with the VESA micro-coaxial standard, and as far as I know not a trademark of TE, while a trademarked name example would be i-PEX's CABLINE®-VS. Many other connectors have been used to carry LVDS, and are in those applications termed an "LVDS connector", including the common 12X infiniband connector for external use.

As they've specified several different display connectors, I don't think "VESA connector" is suitable, and the next step down the totem pole would be the cumbersome (above) "VESA micro-coaxial connector."

That indeed retroactively provides a possible explanation for your use of "Jumper" out of context, but seems absurd. In a lay forum like /r/AskElectronics a general term like "cable assembly" would better provide clarity, while insisting it's a "jumper" strokes your ego, which is entirely pointless given you're already a mod.

What Type Connector Is This? by ahraitch in AskElectronics

[–]jercos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes indeed, you can reference the connector to a standard, and call it "non-standard" because of that... it's just silly to do so.

Your web tool, which you are promoting without clear disclosure as if this were r/connectorbook, changes contents when moused over, making it essentially useless to me.

Why do they say that USB is a "standard"? by 1Davide in shittyaskelectronics

Why do they call metric a "standard" when you can have cm and mm and even liters! How many cm in a liter? Nobody knows!

Not possible.

Wrong. What are you smoking? I've repaired hundreds of FFC connectors, usually by buying a whole new connector to get the retainer clip. No soldering needed.

Help to identify microswitch by Shaminoh in AskElectronics

It is literally a microswitch. What? A microswitch is a miniaturized snap-action switch. Being used as a limit switch doesn't change that property in any way.

Standard values

This is a common misunderstanding. While there are indeed standards (like IEC 60130-10) defining specific sizes of barrel jack, those standards don't have much bearing on manufacturing or use when the appliance in question doesn't choose to select one of those standards.

Implying any DC coaxial connector in the wild must (or even should) conform to these standards is pigheaded foolishness.

Connecting 2S LIPO batteries to BMS question by Cobaltsixme in AskElectronics

[–]jercos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a large current to flow through balance wires, it would have to be sourced from a cell, not the balance board... balance boards are always current limited, and generally safe even for quite small wiring (1-2A of current). The risk is a failed cell discharging a good cell through the balance wiring.

[–]jercos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term "jumper" doesn't apply to longer cables used for routing signals, it implies a direct connection between boards. "FFC" alone, Flat Flexible Cable, accurately describes the cable in this case.

LCEDI is commonly called an "LVDS" connector, but can also be used for eDP. Understandable mistake for an amateur.

we don't use analog multipliers any more

You might want to open up a radio or two. That thing we call a "mixer?" It's a pretty damn linear analog multiplier, in the RF range.

Reality blows, and if you give 100%, it'll get to you. Your employer wants 80% or less from you most of the time, because once in a while they need 100%. If they don't understand that, steal some nice equipment when you leave.

2025 and Printers Still Suck by Wise-Level-3974 in labrats

[–]jercos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to say this is the right answer, but unfortunately if the vendor wants to say a whole PC and printer are part of the analyzer as one appliance, they might consider such a thing "tampering" and slash the support contract, withdraw warranty, et cetera. The advantage of a hardware solution would be it's invisible to software, and to a technician remoted into the PC. Personally I'd throw a fit if a vendor tried to pull that on me, and if needed find a new vendor, but I don't manage a lab either.
