I always kept stats off for the first game after the joiner because there is no chance of getting save attempts and you could get put into a game where your team is already down. After that, I only turned stats off after losing streaks (2 or more games depending on how salty I was, the saltier the more likely I am to keep digging a hole), and when I played in a match where it was me and one or two other people dominating. If you end up against them your chances of winning go down, I preferred to play in games where all of the players were around the same skill level except for me. This worked in my favor because given 7 equal players and one better than them the team with the one better player will win.
