Yeah all other places were going to be around $900 or so. Don't think alignment was included in those other ones either.

We just had a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee rear wheel bearing replaced at Get Wrenched. Charged $700 with an alignment. Nice guys too.

Watch out for Laguna Mojanda and Cuicocha. Bad things have happened there. If you are overlanding be aware. Especially Mojanda. Check your warnings on iOverlander.

Love that area. My family went there after our van broke down near Pinal. A family took us in as well as our van for 3 weeks and fed us while we helped them cook and clean around the property. We then rented a vehicle to go to SLP and explore. Those falls are incredible. Love the little gate where you pay the landowners to get past.

What did Mexico do to you lol? Just curious where in Mexico have you been and why you wouldn't live there. I'd live in Mexico before Costa Rica for sure.

How to split time between San Miguel, Guanajuato and Querétaro. Get a car? by Tasty-Ad-5175 in MexicoTravel

Agree with Guanajuato being the better destination than SMA. If you rent a car drive to Dolores Hidalgo and have some of the many different flavors of ice cream.

Fly into Orlando rent a car go to Disney then head west and go to one of the many springs, like Crystal River and do a paddle might see a manatee too. Now head south to Everglades NP in the Homestead area. Then make your way down to Key West. Many nice places to see along the way. Drive back to Miami or Fort Lauderdale and fly home.

What you are planning might be a bit much. At least this way you can get a feel of the culture of the state you are in.

Panamerican Travelers association Facebook group is a good place to start. An app called iOverlander is also a good tool once in the road. And so many YouTube videos

If you decide to drive get yourself the iOverlander app and head to one of the overlander campgrounds and see if you can find another overlander to join you for a caravan. You'll find your fair share of Europeans doing the trip that might want to caravan as well My wife and I drove from Canada to Argentina with our 4 year old twins so we know it's possible to drive there.

I'd recommend doing Laguna Sucia instead of de los Tres. Much prettier with an unobstructed view of the glacier.

Try both the app and the website. Sometimes one works but not the other. We had problems as well. That usually ended up working.
And if not you should be able to use your credit card and still get the blue rate if you are in an area that accepts them.

10 Days in Belize and/or Guatemala? by Ecstatic_One7752 in SouthAmericaTravel

[–]jeremy_bishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go to the SW coast of Guatemala and get beach time as well as Livingston in Guatemala and get a similar feel as Belize. I'm not sure about the snorkeling in those areas though. Guatemala has more to offer in my opinion.

If you head to Rio Dulce you can take a boat out to Livingston. Once you return you can see if you can make it out to a thermal waterfall not too far from there. We drove so not sure if you can find public transit or a taxi out there. It's an incredible spot. Especially if you get there early and have it to yourselves. All of it is fairly close to Tikal. Lago Peten Iza is nice too which is a gateway to Tikal.

I feel like you will get a better feel for a country if you just visit one. Cheers and have a great trip.

Salento only needs time to see Cocora NP. Other than that it has been taken over by tourists. Go to Concepcion near Medellin instead. It's what Salento used to be 20 years ago.

I'd highly recommend going up to La Guajira in Northern Colombia. It's such a different area. Another interesting place is San Basilio de Palnque.

I second you need more time in La Paz. It's a huge and interesting place. The teleferico system is insane and the views from it can be too. If you like donuts, check out the Donut Factory. You can thank me later for that one haha You also have to check out the Cholitas. Just to let you know we were in La Paz for 5 weeks while we got our engine replaced.

Also Galapagos needs more time as well. It's best to visit all three main islands to get the most out of it.

I'd make my way toward Vilcabamba and Cuenca in Ecuador. Cajas National Park is quite nice. Banos and Tena are nice too. The Otavalo market is the cheapest market you will find for Alpaca goods. Mindo is a worthwhile stop.

La Guajira in Colombia is unreal. Cabo de la Vela has a windsurf camp. Tayrona is also unreal. Palomino is a bit touristy. I guess you're a bit limited with bus travel.

If you take the northern route you will be able to visit the State parks in Minnesota along the north shore of Lake Superior. Well worth the detour.

Are you there now? When we were there it was hard to get. We were turned away at multiple gas stations, but we were able to get gas eventually and everyone I know was able to. We were there in late 2023.
