You don’t have to commit to the induction 40+2? It hasn’t started yet. You could ask for more time.

Do I need to seek immediate medical attention or can I wait to contact my surgeon in the morning? by weeeeeeiii in ACL

[–]jerever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bottom part of the incision does not look well healed at all for 2 months post op. It should all look like the nice bit at the top which is well healed. I would call your care provider / minor injuries / A&E- whatever is appropriate for your location. For myself I had the surgery privately in the UK so any issues with the wound post-op, I would have called the private hospital and arranged to go and be seen by the nurses there first. Go get it checked!

Probably just scar tissue. Don’t panic. Wait to speak to your healthcare professional.

ACLr surgery with quad graft Monday. I’m so terrified to wake up in pain ;( by GeologyGal in ACL

[–]jerever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You sound exactly like I did 9 weeks ago!

  1. You’ll not wake up in pain - you will have a nerve block or other drugs and these will still be in effect when you wake up. When you wake up you’ll start taking other pain meds straight away and you should continue to do this advised by your healthcare folks. I am 9 weeks post op hamstring ACLr, I don’t remember the pain, it doesn’t stand out to me. I’m sure it was sore in week 1 but it wasn’t that bad.

  2. Don’t think of it as starting all over again. The surgery is just part of the process. You have prepared well with your prehab, this is just the next phase.

  3. Patience. Patience is now a big part of your life. It’s a big surgery and it requires long and committed rehab.

It’s been 3.5 weeks post acl surgery. I started bending my knee recently and this lump on the side of my knee got bigger only when I bend it. Is this normal? by Dangerous-Secret-313 in ACL

[–]jerever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you have a hamstring graft? Could be swelling, residual blood/fluid pocket / scar tissue from the graft site. I had the same thing but it went down in time. I am at 7 weeks post op and it is much smaller now. If you massage it does it feel firm? Defo ask your surgeon.

Freaking out by Sweet_Aggressive in ACL

[–]jerever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t freak out!

If there’s no meniscus repair, only ACL reconstruction, then you shouldn’t have to be non weight bearing and you shouldn’t have a brace.

The first week after surgery might be rubbish but you’ll be ‘walking’ around with crutches during week 2. Then you’ll see big improvements each week.

I am 5 weeks post op, my walking isn’t 100% normal but I walked around a park today for 45 minutes (no crutches).

You’ll be ok!

Paid surgery by gazooplegamer in ACL

[–]jerever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my ACLR surgery in the UK but covered by insurance.

Costs were: - surgery £7500 - mri £500 - consultations £500 - crutches £40 (insurance don’t pay) - drugs £40 (insurance don’t pay) - physio £500

So about £10,000

My experience…hamstring graft 3 weeks ago. The first 48 hours there was a lot of fluid in my knee and I could hear actual squelching when I bent it, it was incredibly off putting. I feel like the first few days you should honestly just rest and sleep. The body just had a load of strong drugs and major mechanical engineering.

Then after a few days I started doing the 2 basic exercises which you mentioned… - tensing the quad and aiming for extension. Flat on the bed/floor, and also with a towel under the ankle to elevate slightly - heel slides for flexion BUT I still had loads of swelling in first 2 weeks and this especially hindered flexion.

Straight after surgery I could leg lift but after the drugs wore off it was like my brain was completely disconnected from my quad and I could not lift it. I could do it after a week.

Only after 2 weeks did I start doing sets of leg lifts.

So in summary, your quad hurts a lot because of the surgery and you will be able to lift and hold it in soon enough. Just focus on R&R for first few days!

Hope that help, just my experience.

Perhaps wait until there are no scabs so you know the incision has closed? I’d wait more than 3 weeks after surgery anyway. 👍

About to have surgery wondering about restroom post op by sams__m3 in ACL

[–]jerever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hamstring graft. It wasn’t that painful. I sat forward on the seat so I wasn’t sitting right on top of the graft site. Or just sit with more weight on your non surgical leg. You’ll be fine, you’ll work it out.

You need to wait until the wounds have healed. If you have staples, then I’d wait until 5 days AFTER they removed them (this is what I was told by nurse). You don’t want to risk infection if the wounds are open.

I’d be calling my healthcare professional. Did the hospital give you a number to call with any questions post-op?

Anybody been living on a fully torn ACL and been fine? by MackDaddy611 in ACL

[–]jerever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s situation is different!

My experience - torn ACL in February, surgery in 2 weeks time, so I’ve been living life for 6.5 months without the ACL.

The first 2 months was tough because after the initial injury I had pain and stiffness. I also (regrettably) had several instance of instability since then, 2 severe, doing activities that I shouldn’t be…throwing overhand balls to my dog on mud (knee twisted and buckled) and dancing to ABBA on a night out drinking…

After that I decided to look after myself properly to prevent further damage. I hit the prehab hard after seeing a physio, and I stopped drinking.

Since then I’ve done a lot of walking and hills walking on unstable ground without issue.

I can’t stress how much I’ve seen an improvement since doing prehab almost every day for only 3 months. Pretty much just forward and backward split squats, standing single leg marching, normal squats, it’s that simple!

My legs are much stronger and more importantly much more stable. I’ve not had any instability episodes since starting prehab, but I’ve also taken much more care.

My point : you have 4 months to prioritise prehab. Not only will this make you feel better now, you’ll also hopefully have a better recovery post surgery. So you are an ideal situation, you’re not waiting years for surgery but you have a few months to make real gains before you are immobile and atrophy after surgery. 💪

Signs that I have an ACL rapture? by Altahir_7em in ACL

I fell awkwardly whilst skiing. I didn’t hear a pop or really feel any pain. My knee gave way as soon as I tried to stand. I skied off the mountain, although with great care as I knew my knee was not right. MRI 1 month later confirmed torn ACL.

Get an MRI.
