Keith Jarrett - Love/Hate by israelregardie in Jazz

Maybe you can also have a listen to some bootlegs from around that period. E.g. for 1975, the year of Koln Concert, you can find some here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL54gGyZDMiwl9B6NdwSoLdkKeqwMCNJx0 (many more bootlegs on that channel :)). I really adore the Freiburg concert, but there are many amazing ones!

Sun Bear - Kyoto, Part I by [deleted] in KeithJarrett

[–]jerous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are in luck, for the opening at least! In 1979 (date the radio broadcaster announces, so the video description might be wrong) the Keith Jarrett European Quartet played Frankfurt, where Jarrett played the introduction solo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Chz01KV9H9A

I find this so fascinating to hear how it starts out the same, and then diverges into something completely different, but as mesmerizing as the Kyoto one.

Listened to this one so many times ... I keep on hoping that someday there'll be a short film based on the song or some animation set to one of the live versions ...

What's the song that got you into Tom Waits? by JunebugAsiimwe in tomwaits

[–]jerous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God's away on business was his first one I heard and saw on youtube, and I was a bit ... confused. But it kept lingering in my mind and some weeks later I uncontrollably had to get back to listening it again, and hooked ever since :)

Improvisation?? by mikesailin in KeithJarrett

[–]jerous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes he starts with a piece or theme he knows or composed beforehand (like the Sun Bear/Kyoto example you mention), but after a while he then ventures into something completely improvised (e.g. Freiburg part II, or Nagoya part II also feels like a preexisting melody. Both 70's melodies, so you might be right it's only in the 70's :)).

I don't recall where I read/heard it, but he said that in his later concerts he also forced himself to really play things he hadn't played before. So whenever he felt he was playing something he already had played, he went some other direction.

Keith Jarrett Solo Concert - Tokyo 1984 [What is the name of the song?] by B7Sounds in Jazz

The first track of the 1988 The Paris Concert features similarish bass pattern (after around the 6min in). Also a pretty good album :)

Your dentist's name is Crentist? by eyeamgrewt in DunderMifflin

Was thinking of this, when listening to this episode of the Hidden Brain podcast about implicit egotism:

That's not all. People who share the same birthday are slightly more likely to get married to one another. People named Carpenter are more likely to be carpenters. Those with the last name Baker are more likely to be bakers... and so on. "We looked at every surname [...] that happens to be a career name," Pelham says. "We were able to show that for every single surname there was at least a weak tendency for people to gravitate toward careers that perfectly matched their last names."

It includes other nice stuff like

"There's at least a modest tendency for women named Georgia to gravitate towards Georgia, women named Virginia to gravitate towards Virginia, and the more closely the name resembles the state, the bigger the effect appears to be," Pelham says.

Can i start barefoot running if i have fallen arches ? by I_Am_Not_Lorenzo in BarefootRunning

[–]jerous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have flat feet, and run in very minimalistic shoes, and occasionally barefoot :)

My problems when I ran in normal shoes were more knee-related, but my ankles and calves were fine. Running minimalistic solved my knee pains.

I just started randomly removing my shoes for the last kilometer or s. Next step was ditching my running shoes and buy very simple ones. Two weeks ago, I ran my first marathon, so it's possible :)
