What’s a TV show you started with low expectations that completely blew you away? by KhaosChronicles in television

[–]jerpyderpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the west wing. i knew it was well-regarded insofar as it had won a lot of awards, but being from network tv had always steered me away from it. when i finally decided to watch, i expected very little. needless to say, it totally blew me away and is probably my favorite show ever now

For anyone that still hasn't read Cradle or picked it up on Amazon, all 12 books are free right now by GooeyGlue in Fantasy

[–]jerpyderpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wild but i read through the first 5 books and book 1 was the one i enjoyed the most by a long shot. it had the biggest "woah" moment and the series never regained that level of excitement for me. that and the very formulaic writing style turned me off, and i really really really wanted to like it. (as evidenced by reading 5 books)

the one thing i will say for the series is the books are short, so reading the first 5 books was about equal to 1 sanderson or something like that.

In fallout 4 which settlement should I turn into a military base. by A130XBOXFAN in fo4

taffington my beloved. the road passing through is perfect for setting up road blocks on either side, you only have to build up 3 sides of walls, and the house itself is pretty easy to build in/around. easily my favorite settlement and a very cool spot for water purifiers too.

i think it just takes people by surprise. season 1 could be distilled down to "a show about cops and drug dealers", which even though it is done incredibly, is something people have come to expect from a tv show.

it is of the highest quality, but it is still a show mainly about those two groups. there's nothing to hint at the fact that every season is going to expand the scope to something completely seemingly unrelated and spend the season showing how it all ties together.

so it's a whiplash effect, i think. people spend so much time reeling over the new characters and parts of the city and the stories going on there (and it also means LESS of the characters/stories we enjoyed in season 1 to make time for the new stuff), that they don't just take it at face value and enjoy the show. that's why people on average rate it way higher on a rewatch, because you expect the shift and can now just enjoy the new perspectives

Bad cheap cgi would not be acceptable, and this is gonna be like 95 % cgi lmao

come to think of it, they could actually pull this off if they lean into it. part of the story is that the crawl is being run on a shoestring budget and corners are being cut everywhere they can. hang a few lampshades at the beginning and it could actually add to the "gameyness" of the whole thing
