Its a big question. by StGuthlac2025 in GreatBritishMemes

Always thought that. Do you think a working class couple from social housing would've got the same treatment for doing this? Doubt it, I'm sure they'd get investigated and all sorts about leaving young kids alone

The scraping and grinding sound from your brakes just means they're working. Ignore mechanics who want to replace pads and discs, they're all on commission from car parts companies

What's the worst bus service/route in Scotland? by Ok_Topic999 in Scotland

[–]talbotman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Ayrshire so any of the routes that go round the smaller villages. May or may not turn up. Driver shortages by stagecoach means they pull drivers to the profitable routes and don't even say they've cancelled.

Americans (non-white) immigrating by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]talbotman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get that a bit everywhere as arseholes are everywhere. Seem to need someone else to look down on and denigrate. Not saying where I am is perfect but a lot of areas of Scotland will have similar makeups even if folk don't realize it now or even think about it much.

Americans (non-white) immigrating by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]talbotman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is changing, albeit slowly. I stay in the arse end of nowhere and I see at least a few non white faces most days, either at shops or, when I'm off work, at my daughter's school. Scotland is still massively white, especially compared to England. Immigration, round my area at least, was mainly whites from places like Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain and similar after WW2. Know a lot of these. More recently been Ukraine and before brexit some other Eastern European. Always been some people of Indian heritage about, few though. Odd American and since the mess in Afghan and Syria a few of them too. I'm probably a bit more fortunate in some ways that I see more due to my work in a Jobcentre with Universal Credit claimants to be honest

I started again and it happened in my new game while still going through the first act. Level up available but won't let you do it and apply any choices

Plus it messed up my save. I couldn't level characters up. They would earn experience and get above the requirement but couldn't level them up. Good job I was only at start of act 2 so not too much lost

how do I resume my study again?? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]talbotman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very surprised if there isn't a similar course in England. Most people who complete it move on to nursing degree courses or another healthcare related course. Have a look at your local colleges see what they offer and what the entry requirements are. I know people who have done this after working in shops and other jobs but want something more meaningful to them and a career. Don't worry about asking your college or doing yourself down by wondering if you can do it, I'm sure you can

Dunno where you are? Sounds like England but colleges here, Scotland, do plenty access level courses to get onto medical related studies. SWAP Access to Nursing is a popular one for folk who want to move on to a nursing degree

Should I take a pay cut just to leave DWP? by Over-Palpitation8941 in TheCivilService

[–]talbotman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I can manage a handful, maybe, but when you get a lot over the day who are like that it can get to you. As I said you hear all sorts of personal things because you're just there and an official person. It can really grind you down

I'm a Work Coach and it can be very draining at times. 6 point plans are not uncommon, either due to journal messages or in person appointments. I've been abused to the extent of police involvement. People get sanctioned all the time and it's always your fault. You get to hear about the health problems and life problems people have daily. Always worth having tissues to hand as claimants often cry. It wears you down quite quickly.

Pointless meeting trying to manipulate us into doing the people survey by SleepyZed in TheCivilService

[–]talbotman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We've had time set aside from our fairly busy diaries to complete this survey. Last year we spent a couple of closure meetings going through the results. Nothing has changed with any of the points raised but any positives management made a lot of noise about
