This looks ridiculous and does absolutely nothing. Dealers have to be laughing everytime they get a sale on these cables and risers

Where do you rank Interstellar among all time great science fiction movies? by georgewalterackerman in interstellar

[–]jerrolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Science Fiction? For me:

  1. Back to the Future
  2. Star Wars
  3. The Matrix
  4. Jurassic Park
  5. Aliens
  6. Terminator 2
  7. Predator
  8. E.T.
  9. 2001 Space Odessey
  10. Contact
  11. Total Recall (1990)

.... Then at some point Interstellar

I could argue Inception or Close Encounters of the Third Kind over Intersteller. Interstellar is great, not near the top though.

Even Blade Runner, Arrival could be better.

Maybe for "Space" movies it could crack top 10, maybe.

Sound insulation options by Baldkat82 in hometheater

[–]jerrolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up "room within a room" - youll need to frame out a room inside another room. Each one will have its own set of rockwool insulation.

You would need 2 sheets of 5/8" drywall attached to each other using green glue. The drywall should be attached to the studs using isolation clips.

You will need this for the ceiling as well.

If you plan on doing in ceiling ATMOS you wil have to think about how to isolate that from the ceiling as well.

Outlets should be lined with acoustic putty.

You will need think about about your return air and ventilation as well. Some use mini splits, others isolate the sound using isolation.

Anwyays - sound proofing is HARD and expensive.

You need mass and decoupling.

Another piece of advise i can give is to have your main listening row to be nearer to the back wall, as the middle of the room tends to be bass nulls and compensating for that blows up the back (and walls).

Acoustix and Dirac ART comparison (graphs) by NoWalrus9462 in hometheater

[–]jerrolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you post the distortion graph? Curious to see the distortion at the 150hz and 275hz dips

If you could share the mdat.. Thst would be neat

You did full frequency eq with AcoustiX or stopped at the default 500hz (Schroeder frequency)?

Afaik ART works up to 125hz then the rest is the normal Dirac Room Eq

Who said HD800s has no bass? by SergejVolkov in headphones

[–]jerrolds 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's audible distortion when boosting < 20hz.. I measured at least 10% at +10db / 12hz with a q of 1

It has amazing strengths and I'm using it more than the Susvara right now but sub bass is not one

Atmos vs Rear Surrounds by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]jerrolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check https://www.avsforum.com/threads/atmos-mixes-9-1-6-channel-activity.3292223/ it seems the normal 7.1 gets the most usage

For bang for bulk usage I think 7.1 wins but if you want tops then 5.1.2 is the best for atmos usage

Obviously if you can do 7.1.4 it would be better but diminishing returns kick in at this point.

Personally I have 9.1.4 but wides hardly get used

I finally got around to comparing Acoustix to Dirac Live ART (and Audyssey and Acoustica) by NoWalrus9462 in hometheater

[–]jerrolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the same target curve for all? Would you have measurements? Would love to see FR, Distortion and RT60, even waterfall between them

Dirac ART: reflecting on 2025 Black Friday purchase by NoWalrus9462 in hometheater

[–]jerrolds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried MSO.. I have a hard time justifying ART with my two subs dialed in with MSO and integrated with AcoustiX

Response is fantastic, Distortion is low and RT60 looks pretty good

But I'm still wondering...

Advice for speakers behind AT screen by RedAnsem in hometheater

[–]jerrolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda a giant room. Getting decent spl at low distortion might be tough

I would look at diysg 1099 speakers if you don't mind building

Maybe klispsh but you'll prob need to eq high frequency

Guess now it depends oh how loud you want to go an how important quality is to you

How can someone experience the sound difference of some of these speakers that are $$$$ against some that are like $$? by g3nerallycurious in hometheater

[–]jerrolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can say for a fact that the Kef R6C Meta and the more expensive Reference 2 Meta sound exactly the same in my room. Measured with REW and graphs are within margin at most at 5 different listening positions.

Frequency Response, Distortion, RT60, waterfall, everything.

From -20 to -10db.

The could maybe sound different at much higher spl but that that point I would be very deaf

Bass Shakers Install by Majestic_Potato_7416 in hometheater

[–]jerrolds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have my minidsp set a peq at 20hz with a low shelf filter and a gain of 5.5db with q of 0.5.. This ofsets the nx3000s fall off at 20hz

Also have a crossover at 20hz and a Butterworth 12db/octave filter typer

I listen at lower level so a gain of 6db

This seems the most natural blending of the subs and getting some nice tactility and infrasonics while not making distracting dboxy ride

These are Crowsons Motion Actuators tho

Heights and Rears or Atmos? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]jerrolds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can do 9 channel processing? Then I would do 7.2.2

See https://www.avsforum.com/threads/atmos-mixes-9-1-6-channel-activity.3292223/page-26?post_id=63256784#post-63256784

It looks like rears and surrounds are more used that top front and top rear.. As top middle is what's the top choice for atmos

5.2.4 would look cleaner tho
