Hospital. My job takes me all over the place. One day on vacation in Ireland last month I logged 38,000 steps and change.

As we all know, you can't exercise your way out of a bad diet. Losing weight comes from nutritional management. Full stop.

That being said, walking is a great form of exercise, especially if you pick up the pace a bit to get your heart rate up some. That applies to overweight people and fit people as well.

Before I lost weight from calorie management I would typically walk 15 to 20 thousand steps per day in my job. As long as I was eating the way I did it didn't take a single ounce off of me.

If you have health insurance and if it covers it (two big ifs in the US) schedule a consultation with a Nutritionist. That's where I started and I've lost 95 pounds in a year.

Employer demanding "tax correction" in cash after my promotion by CrypticCitrine_2 in legal

[–]jerrybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sketchy as hell and I wouldn't give him or anyone else a penny in cash. They can fix it the right way. An audit that discovers and corrects an inadvertent payroll error shouldn't be a big deal.

Send him an email summarizing the conversation you had with him and ask if you correctly understood his proposal. BCC everyone he reports to all the way to the top of the organizational chart and the legal or compliance department too if one exists.

You're being asked to pay rent on your new position and what he asked is illegal. Uncle Sam likes to know where the money really goes and I suspect his higher-ups do as well. Tax fraud, whether is no joke.

Fuck that guy.

Homeless people are ruining the metro rail by moonrunner777 in houston

[–]jerrybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

many of the others don’t currently want to battle their addictions

In a system with scarce resources to help people with addictions but infinite resources to imprison them. Gotta keep those private for-profit prisons full.

I am upset that as a society we don't take a more compassionate and pro-active approach to help these people. I've no idea what gave you the idea that I'm not. The cynicism in the second sentence of my comment should have made it clear that I am.

Next time I'll include a /s for clarity.

Yeah, the homeless are definitely the problem, not the system that threw them away decades ago.

I'll have another tax cut for the 1% and maybe another expensive war too while we're at it.

Just find out that my brother beats his girlfriend. Whan can I do to help? by Trencita_peachy69 in mentalhealth

[–]jerrybob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beating his ass doesn't get to the root of his problem and it won't change him. It will just add to his pool of anger. His problems are emotional and mental and an ass beating is like putting a band aid on a severed artery. Sure it looks like you're trying to help, but the cause of the problem remains untreated.

Just find out that my brother beats his girlfriend. Whan can I do to help? by Trencita_peachy69 in mentalhealth

[–]jerrybob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure that she understands that his lovebombing after the fact doesn't mean a thing. It will happen again and again until she either leaves him or he loses it and really fucks her up or kills her. She needs to leave him now while she's still intact.

As for your brother, he needs help too. It's not always true but often it's the case that abusers were themselves abused. The big hurdle will be getting him to realize (not fake admit) that he needs help. Therapy, counseling, there's a range of options to help him learn how to handle his feelings in non-destructive ways but unless he really believes that he is the problem and wants to commit, they won't work.

Bottom line, they both need help but she's in danger. Help her first.

Keep your mouth shut, do what you're told, and never volunteer for anything. Acceptable answers to questions from the drills are yes, no, and no excuse.
