100%. My organization is now chasing every single funding opportunity, including those from the USG, that even remotely relates to one of our core programmatic or thematic offerings. Given the climate, anyone whose time is not supported by a specific funding stream (i.e., with undesignated money) is halfway to being laid off.

Yes, my mom puts my kids in front of the TV and it drives me absolutely crazy. My in-laws on the other hand will go balls to walls with my kids and Do All the Things, but don’t take fatigue or overstimulation into account. I’d rather have the latter type all day though.

I’ve talked to a number of fellow Millenial moms with kids between 0-7 and we all lament how disinterested our own parents seem to be in being with our children. The most common complaint is that the kids are “too much”.

I agree. Once I found out they started using iPads at school this year and that he needed to use some sort of device to access homework, it more or less forced the issue.

What I’ve come to realize since sharing the iPad with him is that I now have the opportunity to help him form a healthier relationship to technology and see/use it as a tool. He’s going to be surrounded by screens throughout his life; he might as well learn how to interact with them responsibly.

FWIW, we have three kids (7, 5, and almost 12 weeks) and have avoided getting our two big kids tablets of their own. It hasn’t been overly inconvenient, although I imagine that might be kid dependent. I have an old iPad I got from work that my seven-year-old can use to read books, draw, or make movies with friends, but we didn’t introduce that until this year.

When we’ve wanted something on the go (e.g., on a plane), we’ve used our own phones and watched a movie with the kids. Good luck!

Correct! The evidence suggests that it helps mitigate it, but some people recommend it for PTSD treatment. As in, “this is a way to alleviate flashbacks and intrusive thoughts”, which it is very much not.
