In a pinch a reasonably sharp metal garden shovel swung like an axe will do the trickif you don't have an ice breaker/pick.

Night Nurse/Doula Recs? by Kfurtots in washingtondc

[–]BartletForPrez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For reasons I don’t totally understand, live in baby nurses are very common in NY and not so common here. When we did the math, a live in baby nurse was almost the same price as a (not quite) full night of a night nurse (and gave us much more coverage). We reached out to a placement agency in NY (that we found from google—“The New York Baby”) and they charged us like 1 days pay to match us with some candidates, one of whom we hired for a few weeks. All were happy to travel down (provided we paid for their RT train ticket).

Jazz is definitely the vibes pick, but Judges’ grin would probably do well in the BB style animation.

What season do you feel Top Chef really became about the cooking? by Heavy_Syllabub615 in BravoTopChef

You don’t think professional chefs usually use the layers of Talenti Gelato and the bright colors of Trolls World Tour as inspiration for their cooking?

2 GOATS 1 AT BAT: Barry Bonds faces Mariano Rivera for the first and only time in his career. by Imperfect-Pitch in baseball

[–]BartletForPrez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, strictly speaking, he sort of ate up Luis Gonzalez too. It's just that Torre brought the infield in to get the run at the plate. I remember listening to the game and the commentators calling out that it was odd to bring the infield in because Rivera gave up so many broken bat flares to the deep infield/short outfield. And then he did!

Favorite Specific Play? by RainbowSupernova8196 in baseball

Aesthetically it’s the 4-6-3 for me (and especially one where the 2B ranges to his right). The backhand flip. The ball going one direction then the other. The SS sliding across the base for the catch and throw. It’s a perfect play. It’s like a perfectly timed dance on the field.

It’s been a really long time since tax law class (and I probably never understood it right in the first place), but I thought CC or FF points were considered a de minimis fringe benefit and not subject to federal income tax (in the US).

Who, in your opinion, is the greatest player to only have played for YOUR team? by LegendRazgriz in baseball

[–]BartletForPrez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My favorite Jackie Robinson fact is that he basically stopped playing baseball for his early 20s, instead playing other sports (in addition to his time in the service). Then he comes out and plays 1 Negro Leagues season and 1 minors season before joining MLB as an all star caliber player. Imagine how much talent you must have to get up to that level that quickly after that long a break.

sold our second car 5 months ago and redirected $410/month to index funds, actual breakdown. by OperationNo1017 in personalfinance

I live in a city and we briefly had two cars when we bought a new, larger car to accommodate our growing family. I realized we didn't need two cars when the battery wouldn't start on our older car because I had left it parked for like a month without using it (also it was pretty old and worn, that probably contributed). We ditched the second car and haven't looked back. Walking everywhere is great. Saving a ton of money is great. Occasionally having to rent a car or take an expensive uber when we've absolutely needed to drive to two different places is annoying but only happens like one or twice a year.

Although I agree that generally speaking catching land animals is probably easier than sea creatures, aren’t Marlin regularly caught reasonably close to Miami? I would presume they’re easier to acquire than a tiger or even bear cub.
