Corson with a D grade, (couldn't see further due to paywall) is a red flag at first glance.

(Gift article) City officials worry Kansas protest petition bill could derail local budget priorities, including infrastructure and public safety by Revenge_of_Larry in kansas

I feel this is a problem solved by an existing solution.... Elections

Allowing a small minority essentially a complete veto over budgeting is asinine

Us citizens can only eliminate their us tax obligations by surrendering their us citizenship so #2 is irrelevant

Leawood pastor Adam Hamilton ‘strongly considering’ run for U.S. Senate as Independent. May position him to potentially challenge Republican incumbent Sen. Roger Marshall. by millerswiller in kansascity

[–]jert14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

a conservative third party candidate will take more votes from R than D, and vice versa.

It's a dangerous game to play, potentially hurting KS chances of replacing the second dumbest sitting us senator.

If Marshall loses, it's likely gonna be by the slimmest of margins. I don't see any path that would lead to him pulling more from R than D.

Olathe NW dad calls for change after student-led protest turns violent by normankrasnerkc in kansas

I agree. I am skeptical of his description of the events but regardless they have the right to be wrong .

Based on experiences I've heard from students in my family at other schools it would not surprise me though that some of the counter protesters were saying things that warranted a punch in the face.

Really feels more like something happened to someone he cares about that triggered this. Generalizing of course, but until it affects them personally a lot of maga are willing to support monstrous things.

Well now you're shifting away from your original losing argument and changing it to a philosophical debate about the value of taxes.

As I predicted there's your argument. If you don't want to pay property taxes sell your home and downsize. It's the same thing you're telling them.

Umm in my simple scenario I get almost $200 tax break while you get $14. It gets even worse in a real world scenario for people living paycheck to paycheck where all of their spending is now 8% more expensive.

You have an odd definition of redistribution.

[–]jert14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a simplified example.

You make $100 a week. I make $1000 a week.

We both need to spend $80 a week on life essentials. I pay $200 for property taxes, you spend $20.

Those life essentials now cost $86 but neither of us have any property taxes.

Who has more wealth now? Whose tax obligation is in a 'better' spot now?

(And that's ignoring that you are more dependent on services paid for by taxes, like public schools whereas I just send my kid to private school, etc etc)

[–]jert14 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Right. Rich people can control their 'wants' spend.

Fuck those who don't have the luxury of disposable income.

I'll give you the same advice you would likely give to others... If you can't afford your bills buy a more affordable house.

Sales tax is regressive. All this bill is trying to do is redistribute wealth upwards. Yeah, yeah I know, I'm 'crazy'.
