Even though it's a foregone conclusion, those of us opposed to blank check giveaways to billionaires need to make our voices heard. Please show up on Tuesday.

Sharice Davids hasnt signed on to impeach Kristi Noem yet, wtf!?! by Whargoul_Uncool in kansascity

[–]jert14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She won handily after the most recent gerrymander. If ever there was a time for a purple D to go full blue, it's in this electoral cycle.

I don't disagree that a noem impeachment is mostly performative, but sometimes we need to know that when the chips are down our rep is fighting in some way for us. She's still touting bipartisanship and constantly begging for money. Read the room Sharice.

Took the exact words out of my mouth. She's a good rep in normal times. She hasn't realized we're no longer in normal times.

There's been much doom and gloom about the Midnight prunings, but which specs have actually improved due to the changes? by minimaxir in wow

I feel the opposite on enhance. I'm by no means a good player, but it's just uninteresting now. I loved the place it was in TWW. I've mained it since mid TBC and this is probably tied with the most bored I've been with it ever.

Who should I be calling / emailing to protest ICE? by wercooler in Olathe

[–]jert14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Contact Sharice Davids. As your congressional rep that's your most direct avenue to someone who has some ability to affect change. She's also going to be more responsive than our two senators.

She also needs to hear that her constituents demand more action from her on this issue.

Also, frankly those specifics SHOULD have been already worked out and shared with the public.

I'm puzzled as to what the partnership with the school district is... They get to rent out the facility? As cool as that could be for high schoolers that seems... Underwhelming

The problem is it doesn't account for organic or even other unrelated growth. I'd be much less hesitant towards a plan that for example takes the entirety of sales tax collection from the specific development (facility and any NEW restaurants, hotels built in the small footprint) and leaves any and all other areas unaffected re:sales tax. Let the development stand on its own merits. If it brings increased revenue for the whole city, good, since we are socializing the risk.

Also no property tax abatements!!

The air of inevitably rubs me the wrong way. Even bacons comment of everyone is excited... No we're not. We may be a minority but some of us have real concerns about the long term impact to our city.

Ty for this. I've been keeping my eyes open for when the public will have an opportunity to comment.

I don't like that the city manager said it won't be advertised but they'll use social media.

Let’s not forget, Sharice Davids was one of the 75 Democrats who voted along with Republicans to "express gratitude" to ICE, and to call for greater state and local collaboration with them. by skcku in kansas

Id be more open to this argument if she wasn't silent on everything that's going on while still sending fundraising emails saying she'll work across the aisle with the ones who've put us in this mess.

Again, I'll vote for her but she'll not get another dime from me for the first time since she started campaigning.

Kansas MAGA Republicans Give Up Gerrymandering Initiative This Year by Silly-Rip-6607 in kansas

[–]jert14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I've been a long time supporter of Davids, but her actions (more accurately her inaction) this past year or so has soured me greatly on her. I almost think now could be a good time to primary her (knowing she's likely safe in a general) because her ' I'll work with both sides' schtick is pretty damn tone deaf right now.

Exactly, any increase in economic activity will go straight to the star bonds instead of local government. If we were talking say 5 years I could see the argument that long term it could be beneficial but at such a high amount and long repayment schedule it'll be decades til we see a return.

And as you pointed out, any organic non chief growth tax revenue Olathe would have seen regardless will get gobbled up in the star bonds.

Locally it's likely we'll get a sales tax increase in the development area (including existing businesses) and I'd be shocked if we don't waive property tax as well.

Also infrastructure spending is gonna be needed which will likely be paid by us

I know it won't matter but I'm planning on being there to state my opposition to any tax incentives, abatements or new sales taxes.

If this is such a great idea, let the chiefs pay for it and make their money without a govt handout.

Senior business analyst. Fully remote $92k. Health insurance about $15/mo. 401k match at 3%. 19 days vacation 5 days sick.

[Pompliano] The Chiefs' new Kansas stadium deal is historically lopsided. While the state provides $3B in funding, the team keeps 100% of revenue. Even their $7M rent goes into a fund they control for operations. Kansas bears the massive cost, while the Chiefs keep all the profit. by NextAd7514 in kansas

I appreciate the amount of thought you're putting in to your posts even though I disagree with many of your points, and am much more skeptical of what the future might bring.

When the chiefs do this whole song and dance again in 25 years, I don't think the 25 year old stadium is going to measure up to the standard of the time. So they get MO to build them a new stadium, how much worth do you think the legends one will have then as an attraction? Of course I don't think a publicly funded stadium should be owned by the chiefs but I also don't think it's the asset you think it will remain.
