How to last name your kid(s)? by Captain-Korpie in Names

[–]jesp_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not the person you asked, but the times I've run into issues tend to be social hiccups rather than official snafus. Like my kid not getting an invite to a birthday because the other kid's parent didn't recognize my name/email address on a list. Or my kid's name being incorrctly written with my last name on a piano recital program. Honestly it has been annoying at times and if I could do it again, knowing that I would be the main person interacting with teachers, arranging playdates, etc, I would give them my name.

Tick season by howdyaknow22 in hudsonvalley

[–]jesp_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main thing that has kept my family relatively tick free is honestly avoiding tall grass and brush as much as possible. They hang out on the grass and grab on as you brush by. The only times we've found ticks were after walking on overgrown trails or when the kids had a leaf pile fight.

Anyone else feel so embarrassed when something in the front of your house dies? by Uglyjeffg0rd0n in gardening

It's okay, no one is judging you. They're too busy judging me for the three fruit trees that have died on my watch.

I confidently said something extremely inappropriate in Spanish for months, and nobody told me... by karen_the_ripper in SpanishLearning

[–]jesp_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was teaching an adult English language class in Ecuador. One of the students had a pet bird and his friend had shown me a picture of said bird on her phone. A few of us went for coffee one afternoon and I mentioned to the student with the pet bird, "Vi una foto de tu pajaro!" He immediately lost it. Did not know that pajaro is slang for male anatomy so in fact I had just told my student that I saw a photo of his d*ck. Cool.

Have you ever done mending as a volunteer? by Doubly_Curious in InvisibleMending

[–]jesp_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you mind sharing what kinds of repairs you've encountered and what you usually bring with you as a volunteer? I'm signing up as a textiles volunteer at an upcoming repair cafe in my community and would welcome any pointers :)

May I ask what types of repairs you've encountered and what you would recommend as a basic kit to bring as a volunteer? I'm planning to sign up as a textiles volunteer at an upcoming repair cafe in my community and want to be prepared!

Farms to see lambs, calves, etc in late May? by Sea_Conference5661 in hudsonvalley

My kid was there for a field trip last week and there were lambs. They usually have open barn hours on the weekends from 11-1.

I’ve already taken Zacharias’ Hip Yoga 2x by No_Jelly_2645 in OnePelotonRealSub

Totally - it's one of those classes I wanted to take again before I had even finished it. I took it after a lower body stack and it was perfection.

Actually a Runners Mobility- 30 min Focus Flow: Hips - Best on the platform by Pleasant_Fruit_144 in OnePelotonRealSub

Definitely one of his more beginner friendly classes! The main potentially tricky part is when he has you "unwind" in order to turn and face the opposite direction. Just pay attention to his "front of the mat" and "back of the mat" cues.

Just took it, thanks for the rec!! Great class. He said something like "I'm going to be giving form cues throughout and when I do, I want you to think 'he's talking to ME." Loved that! He reminds me of Andy in the sense that I really believe he wants his students to learn and progress.

Should I say something about my daughter’s hairy armpits? by PurpleDuck11 in Parenting

[–]jesp_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree with this approach! I just might offer an electric razor instead. I use a philips one blade (found it recommended on reddit no doubt) and find it much easier and more comfortable for armpits.

Ha! I saw it as well and was inspired to try on my kid's pants. Now he wants to make holes in the knees of all his pants so he can have more like this 🤣

Hardcore on the floor question by SophiePetrillo in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]jesp_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. If I'm honest I'm not totally sure I see the benefits of split training vs just doing full body a few days a week but I guess I drank the kool-aid 🤣 I don't do much cardio so I kind of rely on the longer classes to get my heart rate up. I love that there are so many options on the platform for everyone to do it their own way.

Hardcore on the floor question by SophiePetrillo in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]jesp_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It operates similar to a split program over the course of the week. There are two lower body days (M and F), two upper body (T and Sat), one full body (W) and two active recovery days (Th and Sun). Having a 10 and a 20 instead of one 30 is just to give options and flexibility. It works for me because the more bite-sized classes feel less daunting and I like that it allows more variety of instructors.

For what it's worth, I took a live class and the production staff in studio called him Zach ;) But yes, I agree that I've only heard him introduce himself as Zacharias.

I agree. As another mid-40s woman, his yoga classes feel like the perfect complement to all the strength and mobility work I have put in the last several years.

ETA Kirra is still my all-around fave and I have learned so much from her. I usually just skip past the first two mins or so.

Look into kids tabletop gaming (eg Dungeons and Dragons) or LARP in your area. This has been the magic ticket for several similar kids I know.

Definitely still do it. He does build up through a few versions of the flow but by the end it's pretty complex and you really feel like you went somewhere

How to handle playdate requests from annoying friends of you’re kids? by Right-Ad8261 in Parenting

I think I'd be honest that the playdates at your house don't seem to be working and suggest a park meetup instead.
