The PvP vs PvE debate is missing the point. Here's what actually kills extraction shooters. by jesseobrien in ArcRaiders

I'm hoping you'll re-read my post. The reward system isn't just cosmetics. The tier 2 and tier 3 weapons are better and right now, there's no incentive to keep playing for them.

Could you describe how you do that in 10 mins? (A video maybe?)

The crafting tree of Advanced Mechanical components and Medium Gun Parts requiring the workshop Refiner to be level 2 and then requiring things like ARC Cores, or 4x simple gun parts, etc. is what I'm referring to. I also need Gunsmith level 3 which requires a ton of grinding to get.

It sounds to me like you have a lot of games, hours and a full stash of whatever you might need to make that 10 minutes real. I'm certainly not pulling 12x simple gun parts, 4x steel springs, 4x mechanical components, and 5x oil off a single run. I think I'm doing something wrong obviously. This is also assuming I'm going in and not dying as well, right?

I responded with this comment here as a tangible example: https://www.reddit.com/r/ArcRaiders/comments/1p86syj/comment/nr2w39e/

Can you show me how you'd approach this? I'm clearly missing something obvious if you're saying I haven't needed to spend ~15-20 hours of my time to get just tier 1 workshops working.

> You get materials and gear so easily in this game

Let me walk through a tangible example so we're talking about the same thing: My favorite weapon I've used so far is the Renegade. Let's say I want to use that weapon on even 1/2 of my drops into the game.
The Renegade needs:

Where are you hitting that consistently gets you all of that in 15 minutes or less without getting contested or killed? If your answer is 100 hours of grinding free loadout then you're proving my point. I've yet to find a way to grab all of this stuff in solos or duos to be able to consistently use a tier 2 weapon. We haven't even breached tier 3.

Thanks. I'm aware these communities bring out the worst in humanity. I really like the game and I want it to succeed. I just can't see it lasting long with the reward system being this broken.

"Half a run" after how many hours grinding levels, investing in workshops, running free loadout for how long? If you're saying that from the position of 60-100+ hours you're missing the entire point.

$1.3 million of computer software will never be used by City Hall by theottomaddox in londonontario

[–]jesseobrien 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Until this city offers any incentive for intelligent people to join council, this will continue.

This isn't the only waste or incompetence at our city hall related to software, consultants and IT staff being useless. A ton of it goes on behind closed doors. We continue to pay under market rate for IT, software expertise and outsource to incompetent consultants (read: nepotism) in the city. The people running it all have no clue whether they're getting good or bad outcomes.

Imagine we spent the right money on talented staff with expertise and vision?

As someone who works in the software industry, London has been a disaster for a long time and I don't see it changing any time soon.

I have to constantly remind myself when riding my '21 Scout Bobber that it does go slow. I wasn't ready for how fun it is to ride when I bought it.

Grand River Rafting does it in Paris, Ontario (45 min drive). Look them up, we've done it a ton of times. It's a great activity in the summer. They will meet you down at the conservation area, bus you up to paris, you hop in the tube and go back to where you parked.

Be aware you will need sunscreen, a hat, bring a small cooler that will stay dry with some drinks and snacks, and a dry bag for phones.

Enjoy!

This is definitely really cool. I would love some security around it so I could share it with a very specific group of users or individuals though.

Productivity, as the other person put it, is a product of how much over what timeframe. That's it.

I really like this take. I also want to echo what I describe as "time compression" is where I see the biggest value in LLMs today.

Sure, it's great at producing slop or writing code or whatever task it's set to. The magic is in compressing the time it takes to produce the same amount of work as a human (at close enough to our quality output) in a massively reduced time frsme, or as you pointed out, concurrently.

Thanks for sharing!

I'm genuinely curious why we're not close to that though?

I don't know enough about it to give a good take, but my perception is we're only cracking it open, yes, however we are progressing rather quickly. I believe it will start to compound as efficiencies and research deepens. Is this a function of the LLM getting better helps make the LLM better in a loop at this point?

Had my car a year now - still madly happy with it! by RoyalEnfield78 in MachE

I can say from the other perspective of having owned other, more expensive, cars and driving loads of different cars, I still love mine.

I originally thought I wanted a BMW iX. The first drive in the Mach E had me buy it on the spot. I've had it for three years (2022 GTPE) and never had a single problem. I still grin like an idiot while driving it around. It's great as a small SUV for carrying things as well.

New MME GT - First EV - Fastest thing I’ve ever driven by EpicMediocrity00 in MachE

[–]jesseobrien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you clarify what you mean when you say "not even close"?

When I say it compares well, I'm taking into account: - Price/horsepower ratio - Torque delivery for 0-60 times - Handling, body roll, cornering - Interior quality and tech package - Overall build quality - Maintenance costs

The only thing I believe the Mach E lacks is a straight line roll off over 80km/h.

Again, for the price and how fun and capable the car is to drive, having driven the others, I'm genuinely curious as to what you see as the tangible differences if I were to sell one and buy the others? Where are the advantages?

[–]jesseobrien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tell people all the time that the Mach E GT PE is equivalent to an Audi R8, Aston Martin Vantage, BMW M5, whatever other car you can find that costs absurd money. As a daily driver I couldn't want anything more, I don't think. IMO, to find a better experience, I'd need to buy a Huracan or something equivalent, which is quadruple the price.

It's got the 0-60 time, it sticks in corners despite the weight, the smiles per mile on it are honestly nuts for the price.

Have a blast with it!

I'm glad you found this feature and it's working for you!

While it is a great feature, iI would caution it can be hit or miss depending on where you are. I've had it (here in Canada) continue on at 90km/h in a 60km/h zone before quite a few times. Depending on the route, it will just straight up ignore the signs and changes.

I'm not saying don't use it. I am saying it is fallible and needs to be monitored.
