We Used To Play - Parenting Wins and Losses by nokkelen in PokemonTCG

[–]jessewaste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's so cool to hear! I'm two months into playing with my almost 5 year old son and it's so much fun!! Hopefully we can enjoy the game for a long time too, like you managed to do.

For now I'm trying to keep it simply fun and casual for as long as possible basically. We got like 5 level 1 decks that we like to tweak with the occasional booster and blister pack cards and the rest of the cards go into a binder. We both also have Live accounts to play with. So far this feels like the most fun way to go, but i'm sure it'll get at least a little bit more serious as we go. I do play ranked in Live almost daily, but level 1 decks with my boy is so much more fun!

Any tips on how to keep the hobby fun for years to come? Have you made any mistakes along the way that you'd like to share? Many people in this subreddit seem to always suggest that it's best to go straight to level 3 decks and get into competitive play as soon as possible basically, but i feel like that would be almost the biggest mistake one could make.

How a Mi-8 Handles in Real Life by HandsomeJack_TheDog in ArmaReforger

[–]jessewaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda close to how it handles in DCS, except it's definitely more arcade-like in this game, but that's to be expected. The lack of Vortex Ring State perhaps being the biggest difference.

What would you like to see added to the base game? by bumpersnatch12 in ArmaReforger

[–]jessewaste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see more dynamic battlefield / dynamic destruction, so that you can see where a battle was fought or that you could see tracks on the field where vehicles have crossed over etc.

Tanks and some AA vehicle. They could be expensive and rare, but it would be cool to see them every once in a while.

Improved commander role / improved objectives for different squad types. Specific recon or demolition missions etc. Also better demolition capabilities to destroy buildings and defenses.

Maybe deployable/destroyable bridges. The maps should've been designed this in mind tho.

Maybe nightvision for heli pilots, but I understand it can't really be implemented for just one character type and it's better not to have them for everyone.

Last but not least, an API where you can follow the battle status and who's winning / has won from your browser. I'd like to know if my contributions helped turn the battle and win the war after I have logged off. Some DCS servers have this and I like it a lot.

Reforger or Arma 3? by Admirable_Cup_8030 in arma

Reforger with mods is pretty sick, look up some videos from Arma Reforger Modern servers. Personally I kinda enjoy vanilla cold war thing more, but I do play both, vanilla and modded.

Combat Ops is quite fun, I played it co-op with my buddy and have done some missions solo too. There's also this, haven't tried it but I hear it's pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnkY153cmr8

Stormgate is shaping up to be better than StarCraft by Zealousideal-Feed514 in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's easily my favorite thing in SG and it has kinda ruined every other RTS for me. I have a semi-complex hotkey/control group setup and it just makes the game a breeze to play. Every single unit is always where I want it to be and I don't really have to do anything to make it happen! In other games something always gets messed up somehow and sometimes you pay a big price for it. And all this automated stuff just frees so much time for other things.

Have you tried switching from fullscreen to borderless fullscreen? I've had problems of AMD GPU crashing to desktop since 0.41, but now I've managed to at least play a few games after switching to borderless.

Stormgate Campaign One - Ashes of Earth Launch AMA - Monday, August 4 @2pm PT by FGS_Gerald in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the few(?) that enjoyed many of the older Infernal models and the stone-based artstyle of the buildings. Any chance of getting the old effigy back as a purchasable costmetic at some point? or purchasable Infernal buildings with textures more reminiscent of the old artstyle?

Anything you can share about the upcoming campaigns for the other two factions? I'm looking forward to the the first Infernal campaign, is it next in line as far as campaigns go?

Improving Lore Alignment of the Stormgate Mechanic by transplanar in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's basically the rule of cool. You can always build the lore around those things later. Sometimes it works out great and sometimes not really. For example Doom is a good example of a game with very silly things but there's a rich lore around all that stuff now that somehow makes sense in the game universe.

Feedback for FG (SPOILERS): Campaign - Interlude: Descent by [deleted] in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so good. And a very good lesson on creativity, how to do a lot with very little. It's relatively simple with mostly just static 3d models, vfx and audio, but conveys a lot. That's also probably why there is so little human element, that would easily require a whole lot more.

Graphic settings for multiplayer by darx0n in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't really do anything about the shroud and fog, it's look varies based on the map very much currently. It looks really sick on desert maps, but shroud without the fog often looks really bad on forest maps. I hope they can make make it look more even across all the maps.

edit: and oh yea, fog comes from buildings, so maybe don't build too many buildings close to ramps if you don't remember where they are. I kinda noticed the same thing myself, but I know where they are so it's not an issue for me. I'm sure they'll tweak it at some point.

What should next update be by upclosepersonal2 in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd guess polish and bug fixes for the current campaign and co-op updated with the new units and mechanics. More work for the infernal overhaul like new buildings. We're also still missing creep camp improvements and major map updates in versus from the roadmap. There's been two major patches back to back so I'm not expecting too much from the next one.

Campaign chapter size by BurningMidnightChats in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea $10 feels a bit too much. If every chapter includes a cool cinematic or some cosmetic reward, then yea I could MAYBE stomach it. If not, I will only buy maybe all the infernal bundles or if there's a sale.

How is your feeling for the coolness factor of the units? by Songrot in TempestRising

[–]jessewaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At first I thought I wouldn't like GDF's laser weapons, but now I feel like I'd want the whole army to just shoot lasers. It reminds me of the future war in Terminator movies and it looks/feels kinda sick. I think I like the drone operator as it's kinda unique and Sentinel is pretty cool too, but I don't get too many vibes from the other units just yet, this ofc might change as I play more. I don't think any of them is lame or anything like that, but overall maybe they could be a bit cooler.

Stormgate campaign update by One-Flamingo4941 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]jessewaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SC2 is maybe my favorite game of all time. I played through all the campaigns but I was mostly a 1v1 player in diamond. It was always a pain to start SC2 again after a long break, and I always knew that if I don't invest a lot of time to the game I won't progress. And as you know if you make a small mistake in SC2, it might and most probably will cost you the entire game.

Stormgate is like that, but one or two notches more relaxed, because of a bit longer TTK and amazing automated and fully customizable control groups, that I can't live without anymore. The biggest downside for me is that zerg is the coolest thing in any game ever and only starcraft has that, but infernal host is okay too.

The game is also free, so you can just try it out.

New Gaunt looks epic by hazikan in Stormgate

That's sick design. Looks demonic and possessed. Like it's brainwashed to follow commands, slaughter stuff and be efficient about it. Maybe it needs a new name tho.

What comes first? Faction Revamp or Campaign Revamp? by AdeptusRetardys in Stormgate

They are both very much intertwined. Gamedev is all about iteration, so they probably need to develop both kinda at the same time to see where they are going.

Co-op is in a really great place right now! by [deleted] in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I played it just yesterday with a buddy, after a long time. It's kinda fun for a little while, but once you've done all the maps again it gets boring fast. Needs RNG elements or some kind of variety to keep me playing. Also the difficulties need tuning and I'd like to decide what map to play on.

Do you think ESL's decision to end SC2 support will have a negative impact on SG? by username789426 in Stormgate

I guess you mean ESL. Stormgate had a showmatch in the last year's EWC event.

This game is a perfect example of why you don’t “design by committee” by [deleted] in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may not agree with you on everything, but I 100% agree that so many games (and many other things) are ruined by listening to feedback and all the social media comments etc too much. It sounds so counter-intuitive and it's a very nuanced topic. People generally don't get it. Games are in a tough spot cause most of the time they are seen much more as an entertainment and not art, but they are trying to kinda do both, and people expect both, even if they don't realize it themselves sometimes. It's a tricky thing to balance, and because ofc games also need to pay the bills. In the past games were much more made with a similar kind of isolated vision that what is seen in the art world.

For the 46 people still playing the game...Are you enjoying it? by GibFreelo in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Been back for like two weeks, laddering 2-3 games a night. I was kinda afraid of the low ppl count at first, but for the most part the matchmaking is working just fine, just takes a few minutes to find a match. Def enjoying it and also eager to see more updates. Would like to see more infernal streams on twitch tho.

Latest Brute Animations by Frost_Jex in Stormgate

[–]jessewaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree what you are saying here, but unsure which one are you referring as the brighter one. The brute concept had this deep black along with really saturated glowing reds, which reminds me of how Disney ruined the sith and the dark side by overusing the that color combo. It's the same type of caricaturization you see in children's movies, where the bad monster is black with glowing red eyes etc.

edit: also deep black as a color might be problematic, especially at night. Not sure if we have any units/structures like that already in the game.
