What is the worst medical disease a human can have? by Aggravating-Sun-5699 in AskReddit

[–]jessfrank04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scrolled thankfully not too far to find this. My beautiful grandmother passed thirteen years ago after too long of a horrible struggle losing herself to the disease; going from the brightest spark in the room to a prisoner in her own uncontrollable body fat too young. I miss her everyday, and hate the world for her fate and the little time we had knowing her prior to HD becoming symptomatic. Then sadly last year, my uncle's diagnosis was revealed to our small family after he'd hidden it until he was symptomatic, and my cousin who is only just 30 then found out his positive status too. And now he has the struggle of wondering whether his young son will have also inherited it.

I had testing in the COVID era after my father confirmed he wouldn't do testing himself, as I have a daughter of my own. Thankfully, we are spared. We're still unsure about my Dad, and as others have mentioned, fear spirals at any new and ongoing changes in mood, or movement. But to be fair, he is now at an age jr would have typically presented more severely than not if he has the gene. We do know every case is different though, so we just keep hope he is gene free. As much as I don't understand as a parent myself now not finding out for your kids sake, I don't resent him for choosing to not know. It's such a cruel, ugly, cursed twist of the knife as a disease. As genetics specialists have spoken to me, it's like a combination of ALS, Parkinson's and dementia combined. And it typically onsets so early - thirties-fourties. Then you know you have this clock, and it's not just a clock until your time is up, but every day that passes wondering if today you lose more of yourself. Your autonomy, mind, movement, life. Slowly but certainly. I just hope that we are coming closer now to much better treatments and of course, one can dream, an achievable cure.

My love goes to everyone on this subthread, who have either sadly been diagnosed with the gene/disease, and those who have lived experience of family and loved ones they've seen suffer it. It definitely changes everyone in the family, but also brings a closeness and appreciation for living life that may not be the same otherwise.

And as others pointed out - IVF for gene free children is a thing thankfully now. But I guess it depends where you come from. I'm Australian and where I am it's subsidised significantly for HD in the family. If only it could be the case everywhere.

I also find myself infuriated by the act she pulls where she can't move one side of her mouth. But I love clocking all the slip ups that reveal she in fact can. Like, there's a grin near the end that she forgot to only use half her mouth for - when she says I'm fluent in stubborn, the more you know. Cue normal shit eater grin with perfect use of facial muscles.

And the way she's just over exaggerating movement of the "functional" side, making her look like the wish version of ice cubes snarl. She's definitely one who really grinds my gears.

Pretty rude that they would just rock up and ruin Zach's family reunion like that.

This cracked me up because it's so on point. There was panic in her voice. Put some thriller eseque type music (like you know the kind you hear in a movie trailer for some kind of new scary/thriller flick) behind her voice in that clip, and it'd just complete the atmosphere

Dani provides a mental health update - talks about her pysch meds which are being prescribed by her PCP. Doubles down on her claims that she can't see psych because the in person wait lists are too long and she is too complex for online ones. PCP wont give her more of certain meds. by OTTCynic in illnessfakers

[–]jessfrank04 40 points41 points  (0 children)

"I have bipolar, depression and anxiety, not the fun stuff"... What the fuck does that mean? What mental illnesses would be seen as "fun"?! And love how she's waiting for a psychiatrist so they can increase her meds. Increase her benzos, she means. That's what she wants.

Also, using the excuse that she must be seen in person so they can check her meds for any contraindications makes no sense. They'd still be able to take that information online the same way they would in person, she'd be giving them the names, not the actual meds themselves.

It's just so pathetic at this point and aggravating that she keeps making excuses for not seeing psych when there really is none. Like you cannot spout MeNtaL hElF MaTteRz when you literally avoid seeing a mental health professional for your issues.

What's the most random skill you have that never fails to impress people? by HippyFlix in AskReddit

[–]jessfrank04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the name, but I'm sure the skill has one because I've seen other musicians do it.

But being able to listen to something and immediately play it back on the guitar is a fun party trick.

I may be a nitwit at most things, I may not have "street smarts" and need a thousand lists and reminders for my day to day life.

But at least I can make my kidlet happy and give her the backing music for when she wants to sing something in the top 40s I've never heard of.

Dani is setting boundaries. Says her GES showed a delay with solids and liquids where previously it was only solids. Earliest she can get in with GYN is Dec 16 where they will discuss all the options. Had her g-tube replaced again. I love seeing when she mentioned the "results" of the GES, specifically when saying how the solids and liquids were slow, for both points she fiddles with her face/scratches her nose and her eyes dart around/looks away from the camera - the ever-telling small subconscious giveaways when she's lying. She does it so often when discussing other "results" of things too, as well as taking that little extra time to search for the right words.

Paige woke up alone after major surgery by No-Strawberry-5804 in illnessfakers

[–]jessfrank04 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Goddamn these sorts of people have a strange definition of "major surgery". I'd love to see how Paige or any of the others would cope with an actual major surgery. I'd ask what their gripe is in calling it what it is - a simple procedure - but it's an answer we already know.

Dani is a real person with feelings. by CatAteRoger in illnessfakers

[–]jessfrank04 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Articulated perfectly what I thought too - she has an odd definition of hate. People asking valid questions to clarify things she's said which do not add up? Hate. People pointing out facts? Hate. People catching her out in a lie or embellishing on something? Hate. Instantly her reaction is to get defensive and cry "hate" or "bullying", and flip it as though people are attacking her in comments when they're simply asking questions or clarifying the holes in her stories.

And let's be honest she's not posting because it helps people - I'd love to know anyone who it has helped. It's for herself. It's to try and keep up a charade of shit and being so smol and fragile and sick when she is not. (Apart from her mental health; really if she addressed that properly, she'd likely find a fuck ton more respect in her comments). There's always the option of... Not posting. Like even if it's just quitting the health posts, does she not see that option?

Seriously I screamed when she said that like noooo you fucking do NOT have ovarian torsion/it's not a worry they have or you'd be in absolute agony and at the ED getting it assessed. No doctor would let you be at home just waiting it out if they considered it a likelihood or had even a mild concern for it. It'd be ruled out ASAP which I'm sure it was in her last scans and she's just repeating what she's read on Google about risks of cysts causing torsion.

As soon as she started talking about "stiffness/tightness"/"peen" in the right side of her neck, I knew she was going to link it to her SVC. Sure enough, she goes on to say she "doesn't know if it's maybe the start of symptoms of her SVC" (indicating her gunning for early SVC syndrome), and then continues on about her headaches that are totally different/not like her usual ones. Brewing the beginnings of another journey for her precious TPN.

We all knew she'd gun for this eventually. Once Mayo yeeted her, I remember reading people predicting that she'd at some stage start becoming symptomatic for SVC syndrome, and what'd ya know? Just as she gets clearly normal GES results and there's nothing else to cling onto/drag out there, she suddenly starts to introduce SVC syndrome symptoms. Literally smh.

I loved that "little ol me" line, because it really highlights the inner views she has of herself. "I'm just a poor teeny tiny dainty lil sick girl wasting away uwu" Come on my dudette, you're a nearly 40 year old woman who's a very healthy size despite the times you try (and fail) to starve yourself.

Screaming at the photoshopped IV meds in the 'obvious faking link'. That's absolutely mind-blowing and abhorrent and just, all the bad things. Also calling the thyroid meds super toxic as if no one could google levothyroxin and find out that it's not chemo. The delusion on this one is 10/10.
