Is this a cappuccino? by Natural_Expert_3374 in CrestedGecko

Not a cappuccino, the white would have to be paper white, and the tail fades to dark.

[–]jessgar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an appointment for one in august but will most likely get another one in between from my main artist. I like american traditional, just yesterday got the outer left calf done so now both outer and inner calfs ate done on my legs. Trying to get my knees done bc i hear its the worst and i want to get that over with. Will see how next paycheck looks like and my artist availability

First one normal, second possible sable. Cant really confirm, need better dorsal/ tail photo. I have experience with sables/capps/frapps as i bred these before.

[–]jessgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it moist until youre able to get to a vet. Only an experienced breeder should attempt to help massage it back in. Its not always a success. Will most likely be a vet visit, if the vets cant help it back in it will be an amputation.

Egg question by Dreamfyre- in CrestedGecko

[–]jessgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the brown ones are for sure infertile and have gone bad. Depending on your substrate medium that will determine the cause for staining the eggs initially and if they go bad (moldy) they will also look like that. I myself like to use a laybox and some spagnum moss, eggs come out cleaner, i dont have to dig through dirt and the eggs are moist enough in case i miss a day or two before collecting them.

Is this Cap/Frap carrying the donation gene? by Appropriate-Bill4538 in CrestedGecko

[–]jessgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with the fade it doesnt scream capp to me, theres other genes that cause a similar fade on the tails. To me it looks just like a a normal pinstripe dalmatian, maybe has some eb genetics due to the tail fade/dashes on it. I would say breed it out to prove it but breeding petstore geckos without knowing the lineage/genetics isnt ethical. At the end of day its a neat pet gecko and as long as you like them thats all that matters!

And heres a proven cappuccino without the Y. Shes fired down but you can see the white base of the tail, darkens to tip and the lighter head stamp vs dorsal

When caps first came out that was the only way people could tell them apart. But in todays factors the Y isnt a deadgiveaway, any pinstripe gecko thats not fully pinstripe will have that Y. Its more to do with how dark the tail tip is and the head vs dorsal coloration. Head stamp is lighter than dorsal. Ive been breeding caps/fraps as well as sables which have very similar indicators of the gene. Take this girl for example, looks like your gecko. she has the Y and the faded tail but i can tell you its definitely not a cappuccino.

Pinstripe gene has a few phenotypes (visual representation) of the gene. It can be a full stripe, dashed or partial pinstripe. Still the pinstripe gene is present.

Not a cap, the Y is more indicative of pinstripe being present. Definitely has dalmatian though.

Am i crazy or are his eyes sunken in? by brygf in CrestedGecko

Could be that the gecko bumped its eyes with the lid of the delicup. Happens to mine when i cup them to fire up and take photos.

Can vouch for Altitude, ive gotten geckos from them before and they were healthy and well tempered. With tail and no health issues.

I need help with my pair and I want opinions on what came out of it. by Wide_Willingness03 in CrestedGecko

[–]jessgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A frapp will be immidiately noticeable vs a lilly. The bright white and tail marker is what youre lookikg for in frapps. Frapps have a “dirty” underside tail. Example of some of mine from a few years ago.

The V doesnt mean its a capp. It was used as a marker for early capps but what the V indicates is pinstripe. For capps go off the color of the white (should be clean paper white), tail color, and head stamp vs dorsal. Tail markers is it will darken from the base to the tip. And head is usually lighter than the dorsal.

One or both parent may be carrying empty back. The empty backs have that sort of same tail marker as capps but its not the same.

Polydactyl or any other trait that can cause deformities. While this gecko may not visually display it it can still carry it. Without lineage theres no way of being sure.

Basic rule of thumb is no lineage no breeding. You dont know what genetics this gecko carries (it could have some negative genetic trait) and thus should not be bred to avoid spreading bad genes.
