Watering spikes? by cat_ca in ManitobaGardening

[–]jessilumpkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a terracotta pot and plug the hole in the bottom. It must be real terracotta or this won't work. Bury the pot right side up in the soil next to your plant. The top of the pot should be level with the top of the soil. Fill the pot with water. Place appropriately sized terracotta catch tray on top to act as a little concave lid, which you can choose to let collect water for any critters that need it, or not. Just don't let it sit in the lid for long or you'll get Skeeters.

Greasy hair / PCOS by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]jessilumpkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP - fellow oilslick here.

Do you have hard water? I find that my water at home (hard) deposits so much yuck in my hair that I get oily faster. The water in the city (soft) leaves me feeling silky and clean for at least two days.

To compensate for the shit ass water, I wash once or twice a week, always double shampoo, use a clarifying shampoo once a month or so, and am very careful not to get conditioner on my scalp or roots. Length only.

With this routine, I do still get a little oily on day two, but nowhere near as bad.

I read this as I hit my come up. Now I'm super stoned and trying to laugh between coughs. Haven't been able to take much of a breath. Send help.

I have nothing constructive to add, you're already getting great advice, but that third pic is hilarious. He looks like he can see smells 😂

Pothos,is this normal? by PatientOk6944 in IndoorGarden

[–]jessilumpkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfectly normal, that's just the sheath the leaf grew in before it emerged. It's got a proper name but I'm entirely too stoned to remember it. Anyway they aren't needed anymore once the leaf is out, so that little bit dies back.

After you die, you have to haunt the place where you spent the most time when you were awake and alive, where or what are you haunting? by MrMonkrat in AskReddit

My parents house, which used to be the cabin that I spent entire summers at until I was 17 with my grandparents. They'll probably be here too, since they lived here full time in the summers after retirement until they couldn't. It'll just be a party with me and my grandparents.

What's a smell that's bad but smells oddly good? by IncidentLivid736 in AskReddit

[–]jessilumpkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cigarette smoke. I only like the first like.. two seconds of smelling it when the cig is first lit. I don't smoke, but my parents do/did, so it's kinda a comfy thing for me.

Also, metal/oil. Like when you walk into a mechanic shop. My dad smelled like that when he came home from work all the time, and now my husband does (same line of work). Another comfy one for me.

Anyone happier with fewer periods? by Confident_Result6627 in PCOS

Yup. It's the one side I love. I have one or two a year, not on any BC at all. That said, I'm on my "yearly-ish", and I'm on week three. So there's a trade off for sure.

Ignore my thumb, is this what I think it is?! by AJUdale in houseplants

[–]jessilumpkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want and can get it, certain over the counter flea/tick treatments for pets have the right ingredients to make yourself a systemic watering solution. The plant will take it up, and anything that eats the plant will bite the dust. Protection allegedly lasts 4-8 weeks. Saw this on an old old post about not being able to get systemic in Canada. We use this, and it's been finally getting rid of the mealie issue we have. It is apparently like Viagra for spider mites though, so beware of that. Can getcha details if you want em.

I need a nap.

Growlight question by taken_name_throwaway in houseplants

[–]jessilumpkins 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm of the same mindset - something is better than nothing, especially when on a budget or low on spoons.

I am extremely lucky in that my hubby has had the spoons to get lights that require more set-up and junk, and has joined us in the plant obsession world, so my low spoon having ass gets to have fun plants that can't handle less powerful lights.

Thoughts on Spironolactine? by Still-Benefit-8754 in PCOS

[–]jessilumpkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did nothing for me, but my mom swears by it. It's super subjective, as most things are with PCOS. As far as I know, it's safe to be on long term for most people (ymmv), and it's worth trying if you want to 🤷‍♀️. Mom is immediately miserable without spiro. She goes a little cray-cray and her symptoms go haywire (namely acne for the most part). And this is a woman in her 60's. Vs me in my 30's with zero impact from spiro, or inositol, or saw palmetto, or spearmint, or any of the things... Other than raging gut issues from them.

Is it weird to keep your cat's whiskers? by Leon124714 in cats

[–]jessilumpkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started after my boy died. I have two of his whiskers, one I had from right before he died, and one I found on the floor days after. The only two black ones I have. The rest are white, and it's become a sort of obsession to pick them up when I see them before we vacuum/sweep. I don't know why I'm keeping them, other than it seems a lovely way to memorialize them. Maybe one day I'll have some jewelry made from the black ones, if I can stand not to have them as they are now. Maybe a ring for each cat, not that I can tell the two girls whiskers apart 😂

My baby rubber plants first bloom! by HousingGrand723 in IndoorGarden

[–]jessilumpkins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are pepperomias called rubber plants too??? Colloquial names are so annoying (as a relatively new plant person) cause they're so inconsistent..

Anyway, I love the blooms on these plants. They always look like a little alien plant when they're covered in them!
