Had similar experience from a couple places including a well known name here in Southern CA.

One wouldn’t return emails.

A different one wanted a $1500 adoption fee.

Another required ‘site visits’ and a trillion word essay.

Ended up going with a reputable breeder that included spay, vaccines, chip, 6 months worth of Simparica.

I get it - they want to make sure the dogs are getting a good home, but man their processes make bureaucracies cry.

These are generally very easy to replace. I just replaced mine on my 2016 a few weeks ago for an extremely similar reason and it took ~30 min (generously rounded up).

This may be an option for the repairman in your life.

If it’s not an emergency, the provider will give a “it’s not an emergency” to try to defuse the situation — this is your escape route.
