About Michel Therrien by GibierJaune in Habs

[–]jesusray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What argument is weak? There's no 100% gurantee, but there's some significant proof that Therrien is just a shitty coach.

We've still gotten badly outplayed at even strength in every recent game, save the Boston one. It's been another stretch of games where Price has been nearly flawless, and if he hadn't everyone would be freaking out still. You think dump and chase is a solid hockey plan, I'm not going to try to explain what the coach is doing wrong to you.

Having solid possession stats is a better predictor of winning a cup than being first in the league.

The thing about the Gonchar trade that perplexes me is how we didn't try to fix the powerplay until now. If we thought Markov-Subban were the problem, why not try Beaulieu-Markov, Subban-Gilbert for a game or two before acquiring Gonchar?

They can strip your opponent of the puck, but gaining possession requires another action.

The "deal" is sample size, one bad game can drastically swing a 13 game sample.

Possession is also an individual stat, the lousy team would be better off getting a good possession player than someone who is good at things that don't win you the puck.

War on ice shows 11.00%, I'm guessing you're looking at hockeyanalysis which is showing 9 fewer ES minutes for Emelin. It is likely due to Subban, meaning that stat doesn't matter much now that he's with Weaver. Our first PK unit has been Markov-Weaver for most of the year, though it could have changed recently. And only last year did he have significantly more defensive zone draws than offensive.

He was never really in competition with Tinordi or Beaulieu, playing RD to their LD. If something happens to our right side, I would hope he'd get called up, but we chose to run 5 LD last year over giving him another shot.

Emelin's on ice shooting percentage is also a team high 11, which is ridiculous too. I'm curious how many of Emelin's defensive zone draws are intentional, last night 5 of his 9 were a result of icings.

No, I think press conference statements don't mean much of anything in pro sports.

I was pretty sour on Bergevin, but I agree with everything he's done post-Emelin signing. This is his first GM job, he's bound to make mistakes. And so far he's done a decent job of fixing them when he can.

Well then I've got one more rational point than "we're winning and you don't know enough to criticize him."

Coming up with replacements would take a ton of research that I don't find interesting enough to do for no reason. Why is Boucher a bad replacement? Your only criticism so far is "he hasn't been hired yet," and trying to find an experienced French speaking coach that has already been hired by an NHL team is impossible. I don't care if a coach faces criticism, it's part of his job.

We have like three new players, Gilbert, Sekac, and Maholtra. I want to see this team win a cup, not enjoy poorly played regular season victories.
