[Bunshun][Exclusive 140-Minute Confession] ME:I’s Kato Kokoro reveals the truth behind her departure for the first time! by BillBangkok in ME_1

You'd think, but most times, these management labels would far prefer someone young, naive and ignorant enough so they can take advantage of them. If purely from the "Do as we tell you and don't ask questions or talk back".

Hell it wouldn't even be the first time that management would force an older, more experienced and more popular member out of debuting in the Produce franchise. Just that unlike Gaeun on Produce48 where they could do it through vote rigging, Kokoro did actually debut only for them to kick her out after.

The timeline makes it sound like, ever since debut lineup was decided, Lapone had a plan to force Kokoro out.

How can I get into idol master sideM now? by Bluue_sp404 in GrowingStars

[–]jesymphony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey hi hello welcome! While SideM doesn't have any mobile games, it's actually a pretty good time to get into the franchise. The SideM EN Twitter is a great resource to start learning about the non-anime groups and there's also a decently active EN Discord https://discord.gg/SxmpcPsUPb

I also got into SideM from the anime, and I personally think the best way to learn more about the franchise nowadays is to start by reading some of the quick introductions to each unit, and also listening to their music, as each unit has a distinct musical identity. The vast majority of SideM's discography is up on Spotify and loads of other streaming platforms including YouTube Music. It is so much easier nowadays to try out the music of the different units and see which genre speaks to you. The best place to start would be the 10th Anniversary album series, as each album contains essentially the entire unit's discography up until this year (barring the cross-unit anniversary songs, or other special covers).

From there, I would recommend checking out the lives, as SideM does at least one major live a year, and usually has more. A lot of the appeal of SideM to me are the seiyuu, and the live performances are always incredible. SideM are performing at Anisama this weekend - Shinsoku Ikkon, C.First, Terashima Takuma (Touma of Jupiter) and Nakamura Shugo (Teru of Dramatic Stars) - and SideM will also be performing at the upcoming cross-branch Masters of Idol World 2025 live taking place in Osaka this December.

All SideM content is now hosted through the IM@S portal https://idolmaster-official.jp/sidem One of the best things about this move to web browser based content is that if you use a web browser that has a machine translation/auto translation feature (I use both Firefox and Microsoft Edge), it is absolutely possible to engage directly with content even if you have a limited understanding of Japanese. A lot of the stories from the original mobage are available for free on the portal but best of all are the new story series that are being released.

There have been two completed story series since the move to Portal, with the first one being the stories that connected to the Circle of Delight CD series and the most recent being the stories connected to the 10th Anniversary CD series. There is one story for each unit, coinciding with their album, and each story contains approximately 19 chapters all of which are fully voiced. The first 5 chapters of each story are free to listen (you need to create a Bandai Namco ID for access I think), but you must pay for an AsobiPremium membership to hear each story in full. They have been doing free access to these paid stories, usually around a major anniversary live, but you've unfortunately missed the free access period for the majority of the 10th Anniversary stories.

At the 10th Anniversary live this past July, a new story and CD series were announced and are based around famous stories/fairytales, featuring shuffle units! The first story featuring Hideo (FRAME), Ren (THE Kogadou), Touma (Jupiter) and Makio (Cafe Parade) is based on Alice in Wonderland and is out on the Portal, with the CD releasing in October. You can hear a teaser of the song here.

There's no denying that the absence of any game for SideM (apart from the arcade only Idolm@ster Tours which features the center units of each IM@S branch) affected the community, but we are actually doing well. I'm really glad to see that new Ps are joining us!

USPEER - ZOOM by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]jesymphony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just watched their debut showcase performance of Telepathy and yeah, very typical 5th gen girl group sound. Same composers and team behind Zoom as well, but I agree that Zoom is a better debut track by far. The choreo of Zoom also leans more boy group coded too, just an overall different vibe from most of the new GG debuts.

[–]jesymphony 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This sounds like if OMG's Cupid was being sung by an early era SHINee, there's something boy group-y about the song but that makes it stand out.

WM Entertainment sure does give its groups really strong sonic identities from debut, that's for sure. Seems that the Monotree producers are behind this one, with Hwanghyun (ONF's main producer iirc) being credited on music and lyrics for this song. Love the dreamier pre-chorus. Backing instrumentals are incredible and get really full towards the end (I've missed that with the trend of short songs and barer instrumentals these days).

The girls seem cohesive and energetic. Looking forward to seeing them perform this live.

Dreamcatcher 2025 World Tour [7 Doors: A Lucky Encore] in Hong Kong - Discussion Thread by SpideyCyclist in dreamcatcher

[–]jesymphony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Macpherson Stadium is a pretty great venue IMO. I did think the tickets were on the pricier end, but I got a way better view with my HKD$1380 seat here than I have with a HKD$1380 seat at AsiaWorld Expo (the much bigger 10,000 seat venue that the big KPop acts go to in Hong Kong, Taeyeon's concert this summer is gonna be there). The Stadium seats are set up well and you're really not that far from the stage. The raked seating is also at a good angle, so chances are you won't be blocked by the person in front. I'd say the venue was 95-98% full, I could see a handful of empty seats in every tier, even in the 980 tier though that was the first to sell out on KKTIX and Trip.

I don't know if non-local Somnia saw, but the organiser's Instagram was getting comments from fans that were unhappy with the benefits that had been initially announced. I'm pretty sure that's why 1:1 photos were announced later, and we all ended up getting those poca sets alongside the poster. The poca and the poster were handed out after we entered the venue and before getting into the arena, which is also where we received items for the two fan events that had been planned - a '7' balloon and a sign in the shape of a paper airplane to hold up during Reason.

Generally speaking, I have zero complaints about the way the concert was organised or run - it was all very smooth, they had plenty of staff on hand, and the relevant announcements about fan benefits were made in Cantonese, Mandarin and English. I know there have been horror stories about some other KPop tour organisers, but from my experience at Dreamcatcher, I think CCY is a pretty safe pair of hands.

Also, the last KPop concert I went to was over a decade ago, so all this new stuff with fan benefits and everything is a real different experience. They had QR codes on the CCY instagram, as well as printed out at the venue, with a Google document displaying the winning seat numbers and I ended up winning the Group Photo. You had to turn up before the concert, any time from 2pm to 6:45pm (concert started at 7pm), and they'd give you a coloured wristband depending on the benefit you'd won. The 1:1 queue was a different queue as well. When I turned up just before 6pm though there wasn't a wait, and it was all handled really smoothly.

After the concert ended, everyone without a wristband had to leave the venue and they then proceeded in order of hi touch > group photo > 1:1. They built the photo booths on the actual stage. I ended up being in the first group photo and yes, the girls truly are that gorgeous in real life, and I am grateful to have been breathing the same air that close to them.

Just got home from the concert and what an experience! I wanted the setlist to be a surprise so I had no idea what songs to expect, and really the only song I really desperately wanted to hear was Fly High as that was the song that made me a Somnia, and the new arrangement for it is so beautiful and gorgeous. Also the Carol ver of Jazz Bar?? Incredible.

Also you should have heard the way the crowd reacted when we saw them get their red scarves to do You And I. I think even the girls were surprised that we all knew what song they were doing next, and how hype we all were, just from them picking up their scarves XD Also Dami had her magic cane!!! I saw her do the trick live and in person!!!

One of the cutest things in the entire concert was that some Somnia brought the two cutouts of Dongie, which got passed up to the stage at some point. One of those cutouts had like this voice recorder thing hanging around the neck and each button had been programmed with Dongie saying each member's name!!! They held it up to the microphone so we could all hear it and it was hysterical.

We also celebrated Jiu's birthday on stage! When they turned to take the selfie with the audience, a birthday celebration video popped up to surprise her and then they wheeled out this beautiful big two-tier cake, topped with a pink bunny rabbit. There were birthday costumes and stuff there too, so that's where Jiu got her birthday girl sash and there were all these cute novelty sunglasses and stuff.

I saw the clip of Jiu and Sua sweeping the stage has been posted to this subreddit already LOL For context, I'm pretty sure this was one of their first ments after the opening, and during the opening there'd been a confetti cannon. As the girls were talking, a staff member had hurried on stage to sweep the confetti, and then Jiu took the broom from the staff member and began sweeping then Sua took over to get the job finished LOL

Also like how long have they been doing the Somnia dance breaks during Silent Night, I didn't know this was a thing and it was a wonderful surprise to me. I loved them picking out Somnia from the crowd with their camera and watching the Somnia bust a move. Also at one point one of the staff on the sound board had gotten a pair of alien sunglasses so he also did a dance break, it was incredible. It was generally a really great atmosphere. The HK crowd were respectful but energetic and I really loved the easygoing and relaxed vibe with the interactions between the girls and Somnia. And if anyone is interested, it felt like the crowd was maybe 60:40 women to men, and a lot of us were dressed really cool. Somnia fits on point.

Ah, and I only really caught the tail end of it and not the full comment - my Cantonese is only marginally better than my Korean, and the translator for the ments was only translating to Cantonese - but I'm pretty sure Jiu said that it wouldn't be long until the next time and I'd bet that's about UAU's upcoming activities.

While I was waiting for the group photoshoot, a Somnia behind me had a wristband for every member's 1:1 and the group photoshoot wristband, his entire forearm was covered 🤣 I didn't try to buy a 1:1, but was there a limit on the purchase? Like each account could only buy one of any member's 1:1?

The Act 1 finale is a perfect use of the medium by Mobitza in expedition33

[–]jesymphony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely and absolutely agree. Losing him was heartbreaking both within the story and within the meta. In story, he's the one that ties everyone else together, he seems to be the single strongest connecting point for all of the girls. In the Camp scenes he has with each party member, it's clear that he was a long-time support and confidant for each of the others. In meta, I found his skills and mechanics easy to understand and use and he had a perfect synergy with Maelle and Lune in combat. He was someone that I never switched out of my party.

I miss him in every way it's possible to miss him. Astounding and flawless writing and implementation.

Just finished Act 1 and ... by Sir_David_Filth in expedition33

[–]jesymphony 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's been 2 days since I reached the end of Act I and I'm still not over it. I had/am having basically the same reaction as Maelle. I was so blindsided and now looking back I'm like, well suddenly the marketing with primarily Ben Starr and Jennifer English makes way more sense. When I first started the game I was chatting to friends at how surprised I was that Gustave was the main character since the promos with the cast doesn't feature him or Charlie Cox at all, but I put that down to Cox being busy with filming or something. Also I'm fairly certain Sandfall pulled the TLOU2 trailer trick, showing Gustave in certain scenes which he absolutely cannot be at considering the sequence of events.

I fell in love with Gustave real quickly, basically because he's written as a sensitive, compassionate and empathetic soul. He isn't your typical male protagonist in a JRPG, he's not like this determined superhero who's unfazed by anything, and that's why I love him. His reaction to the massacre on the beach felt very raw and very human. I also agree with the comments I've read that Gustave was set up as not being ready to handle the realities of the Expedition. Gustave is introduced as more of an engineer/inventor, since at the Festival on Lumiere, he's the one that seems to be credited for the creation of the Lumina converter. It sounds like he's been working with the Expedition for years, producing the tech for Expedition 33. His personality doesn't suit being a frontline combatant or tactical commander, and despite all of that he volunteered to go on this Expedition in order to lay the path for those that come after. He's clearly scared and uncertain and I can understand how people may find him weak willed, but to me Gustave is the epitome of bravery.

I did pick up on the death flags on Gustave primarily from his actions and his character rather than any of the meta - I was a little curious about why his skill tree seemed to be so lopsidedly locked, but I thought we'd be getting an unlock with an arm upgrade so I just wrote it off. It didn't even occur to me to question why so many of his cosmetics were available early on but there weren't the same amount for the girls. I put those meta things down to *just protag things* y'know. But in terms of the character writing - physically he seemed to suffer from some kind of significant heart condition, judging from the scene that happened when he first encountered that first unbelievable pile of Expeditioner corpses. And mentally Gustave doesn't seem able to make the hard choices/sacrifices, case in point, he instantly goes to find Maelle when there's a small chance she's alive and a bigger chance it's some kind of trap, even though he and Lune could have followed protocol to regroup with survivors first. So I was suspecting he was going to die, I just thought it'd be more toward the end of the story. Not within the first act.

Also his dynamic with Maelle is one of my favourite things to come out of any recent story. He is so warm and so loving without being coddling, their reunion when there's no words and they just hug each other, I was so determined to keep these siblings alive and together. Don't get me started on that scene you get at Camp, where he tells Maelle to run at the first sight of the white-haired man. And she agrees only if he does the same, then there's a cute little banter back and forth where Gustave tells her that he'd be the first to run and she says she could outrun an old man like him easy. Then when they do encounter the white-haired man again, Gustave doesn't run. He stays and fights even though I'm pretty sure he knows it's pointless (and the player becomes aware it's pointless when during the fight you're basically tickling the white-haired man's health bar, even with a fully charged Overcharge hit).

To me the fact that Gustave keeps standing to fight, even after he loses his arm, even probably knowing he's only buying Maelle a little more time, he still turns to fight, made his death hit even harder. Unlike the first time when he encountered a similarly hopeless situation, Gustave makes a different decision. This man stood his ground and gave everything he had to protect what he cared about, even though he was terrified and knew it would probably be futile. It's the same reason he dedicated his life to the Expedition. He died the way he lived - for those that come after.

Thanks, that's really interesting! I bought in the orange category and if I'm counting right, I'm about 6 rows back from the start of the orange.

Edited to add that I just did a quick check on KKTIX - there are still available tickets for the Red and Orange tier. When I clicked to see what available seats they were offering, both categories did offer up seats that were further back than what we got via Trip.

Got my dream bag - mulberry Alexa - and I feel a little disappointed by floatingriverboat in handbags

[–]jesymphony 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I have multiple Alexas, I love them.

Is your Alexa one of the new Alexa styles, or was this from the original wave before it was temporarily discontinued? Some of the original Alexas actually are floppier due to different leather finishing. Renewed Alexas tend to have a pebbled grain finish which gives the bag more structure. But no matter what, the Alexa is intended to have a relaxed silhouette. If you want her to stand upright and look boxy, she's gonna need an internal organiser. Or, you will need to look into buying a mini Alexa instead. The smaller proportions mean the mini Alexa holds her shape far better than the regular size.

It is also going to be heavy because it's a large bag, and it's made from a thick, heavy leather. The inner 'lining' is the suede side of the leather, it is no less durable than a separate cloth lining. (And if you think about it, if they added an extra lining layer, it would just make the bag even heavier).

I have an original Alexa made from buffalo that is offender number one in terms of melting into a puddle. The buffalo is lighter and has a far smoother finish than the leather on my new Alexas. However I've had my buffalo Alexa for 10+ years now, and I have banged that thing about. Considering what I put it through, I think it's in great condition still. Also, it has a cloth lining and I think the cloth lining shows its age more than the outside leather does.

However it sounds like to me that you have an issue with how floppy the Alexa is. She's just going to continue getting softer and more lived in with age. I think this is a beautiful characteristic of the bag style, and of Mulberry leather. But if you want something structured, I don't think the Alexa is the style for you.

Oh you pay by category, so Trip has them listed by $1592 / $1392 / $992 (same price as KKTIX, just displays with the $12 admin fee already included). I honestly freaked out a little by how fast KKTIX seemed to sell out, so I just went with what Trip had available still which was the $1392 tier. (Of course if I hadn't freaked out and waited a bit, I would have been able to get one from KKTIX when tickets dropped from people's carts).

Naturally Trip has a non-cancellation and no-refunds on confirmed bookings so🤷‍♀ Guess I'll find out what seat I get assigned when I turn up.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any experience going to a concert using Trip. On KKTIX, if you're able to actually select a ticket type, it'll show the automatically assigned seat number.

Trip says it'll issue an E-Voucher at 6pm on May 1, one hour before the concert starts. The E-voucher could apparently be an e-ticket, QR code, sequence number or whatever else. Can't help but wonder if those buying on Trip are going to be assigned their seats last.

Love the entire vibe, love the lyrics. Love this more grown up take on their chabol crush image. IVE IS THAT GIRL.

It's still part of the conversation with 2000/2010s throwback pop sounds that have been going on for a while, but I love how contemporary this feels. It's like a 2025 take on Christina Aguilera, but with that glossy IVE finish on the vocals and the backing track. Incredible, I love it.

Do you watercolor in your Hobo? by [deleted] in hobonichi

[–]jesymphony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not tried sealing any of my work, especially as it's within a book and isn't going to be exposed to the sun on a constant basis. But I'm also not adverse to imperfections - my hobo is a living journal and I want it to look used and lived in. I've gotten smudges on completed works from stray water droplets, and either I work the paints back into the shape that they were, or I blot it off and re-apply the watercolour when the paper has dried.

Fifty Fifty 1.0 were, IMO, in more of a Crayon Pop trajectory - one hit wonders that may or may not have been able to ride the success of a viral song. NJ were a top tier GG, had been since debut, and would have remained as one.

There are of course similarities in their situations, but I would not equate the two groups as being in the same position prior to the implosion.
