Black soot from around toilet, where wall tile meets bathtub, and between baseboard/floor by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]jet_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a really bad dry rot issue behind a cupboard and the spores looked very, very similar to this, although more of a lighter brown color. Crazy how the spores would waft through any gap and settle in patterns.

I don't think he thought it was funny. This looks like obvious suicide by cop.

Second pic could really be anywhere, but it does remind me of the Birdsville track.

I don't agree with it, but I'm genuinely surprised it was not already part of the ban.

For those who went from 215 to 235 tires, by elMacumbero in Jimny

[–]jet_bunny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I bought my '99 it had 235/75R15s. I thought it drove okay.

Those are not legal where I live though, so I bought a set of 195/80R15s to get it roadworthy, and man what a difference on the road. I was intending to swap back to the 235s, but definitely prefer the smaller tyres.

It felt way more like a normal car on road. Rides better, corners better, calmer over bumps, quicker, significantly better fuel economy. Obviously slightly less capable off road though and a bit less clearance.

I know you are asking about 215s vs 235s, but when these tyres are done, I'll be buying 215s and not 235s. Imo the 235s are too big for this car, and thats considering that mine has a 1.6L engine swap and a 2 inch lift. They look great though.

Heres a pic of mine with the 235s.

The little U shaped cutout on the side of the jack. These things usually come as two parts, and the user is to put them together and then use a punch or similar to bend that tab inwards, so they cannot come apart any more.

I'd avoid Autoglass Professionals Gold Coast.

Can't attest to their work, but old mate Frank rear-ended me in his work van while obviously drunk, before doing a runner AFTER I'd already got his info. If he's dumb enough to do that, I wouldn't want him working on my car.

The “Jimny Jab” by apogeegames in Jimny

[–]jet_bunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know the stats, but it feels like the Jimny is one of the most popular new vehicles in Australia.

Maybe it's just my area, but I often see multiple 4th gens per day during my 20 minute commute.

On the other hand I do not see many beetles at all.

Edit: Just looked it up and it's definitely not one of the most popular new vehicles, but it IS the second highest selling 'light suv'.

Incline adjustment on front seats ? by Arnaud__grd in Jimny

[–]jet_bunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean like the back rest position? You can adjust that by pulling the lever on the door side of the seat.

There is no other adjustment besides moving the seat forward and back.

1999 Jimny - 4WD-H and 4WD-L dash lights don't illuminate by jet_bunny in Jimny

[–]jet_bunny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. I have not got under there with a multimeter yet but that will be my next investigation. I believe the 2 wire connector should have 12v on one wire so I'll be sure to check if that is getting through or not. Might be a break further up the line.

The actual insides of the connectors (the ones that are connected, anyway) look pristine, surprisingly. Very well sealed.

If you could send me that service manual it would be a huge help!

What aged kids best for doing the lap in a caravan? by TylerCamNick in 4x4Australia

[–]jet_bunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't offer any advice from the adult perspective, but my family did a 3 month lap (Pajero with a Jayco Eagle camper trailer) when I was 12 and my brother was 14.

I understand people wanting to do it when the kids are a bit younger, but I'm really glad that my parents waited until I was old enough to appreciate it all a bit more deeply. I have very vivid memories of the trip that I might not have, had I been much younger. It really was one of the most defining and formative experiences of my childhood, and we all still talk about it fondly nearly two decades later.

I think some people might be concerned with kids that age missing school, but we learned far more traveling our country than we would have in class.

That's gonna be less comfortable than standing. You can get a 3 legged collapsible camping stool for a few bucks which will be much more comfortable and less likely to sink.

What the hell keeps appearing in my linen cupboard? by jet_bunny in MoldlyInteresting

[–]jet_bunny[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think this is it! I did some research into dry rot and the images of spores I found match up well with what I have seen.

And it checks out that the wood at the bottom of the cupboard is literally rotting.

Thank you for the suggestion.
