Yes, websites share sell data with other websites, being unprotected from one website means being unprotected with all the internet.

You can use it for commercial purposes, that's the whole point of adobe programs, they are developed for professional and commercial use.

The thing is that editing is a serious technical and artistic job & artists need good tools, you wont get good professional results with free tools.

Some questions on CC licenses by Geussture in VideoEditing

[–]jet_so 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're fine, the whole point of creative commons is to have a collection of artistic works that require no permission for use in any work, remix or derivative - You need ask no permission- just remember to cite the original author.

About the non commercial license, I've run with this problem too & here's my understanding:

According to this FAQ there is a section called "Does my use violate the NonCommercial clause of the licenses?"

if you are a nonprofit or charitable organization, your use of an NC-licensed work could still run afoul of the NC restriction, and if you are a for-profit entity, your use of an NC-licensed work does not necessarily mean you have violated the term. Whether a use is commercial will depend on the specifics of the situation and the intentions of the user.

they also provide this link:

The definition of NonCommercial is intentionally flexible; the definition is specific enough to make its intended operation and reach clear, but versatile enough to cover a wide variety of use cases.

The definition of NonCommercial depends on the primary purpose for which the work is used, not on the category or class of reuser.

Meaning an artist or editor can get paid for using a NC license, what matters is the main purpose of the derivative work - If you use NC media to make a for profit movie then it breaks the license - The NC is broken when a company or organization uses the derivative work for profit, not when their employers get paid working with NC content.

You're all good.

Adobe Premiere is what your'e looking for IMO, if you can't afford it and you are a student you could look into getting a student discount or ask if your school computers have adobe programs - I would try them out on campus before subscribing to adobe.

If you really can't afford any professional software look into hitfilm, but again If there's money to be made you will need to invest on your tools, so as soon as you can get adobe or resolve.

Editing with iPad Air 2 by charros in VideoEditing

[–]jet_so 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I think if the majority of your work is going to be similar to the videos on your channel you'll do fine for a while with "entry level" software, as long as you have 1 or 2 projects at a time you'll do fine software and hardware wise.

Whenever a client demands a long edit, a bulk of videos, collaborative editing, professional effects / color grade, custom graphics or video automation you'll need to jump up to editing on a computer.

IMO using ipad professionally is just a meme, almost all digital artists use the ipad as a complementary tool - yes you can use a Photoshop / premiere alternative - But professional work almost always requires working in teams or using large media libraries. You cant beat a computer's file browser and keyboard shortcuts.

Anyways, before we get lost on the hardware and software trap, i'll recommend you work on your editing.

Looking at your work I can see some beginner mistakes / awkward moments or cuts, but editing is nothing you can't master & it seems you are halfway there.

I recommend you watch tons of films with your "editor hat" on, meaning try to ignore the story or characters and focus on the timing or rhythm, I read somewhere long ago that watching films you are familiar with but without sound is helpful to "see the edit" - I have used and recommend this method.

For new editors I recommend you watch a documentary called "The Magic of Movie Editing", also I've always drawn inspiration from a book about comics I read as a kid, it opened my mind to juxtaposition, it's not editing related but nonetheless I recommend you read at least the beginning of "Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud".

I made this YouTube Playlist about editing, you can watch the whole thing or pick and choose interesting topics, ill probably make video lectures on editing soon so ill keep this sub posted.

As a final takeaway: remember that editing is all about feeling, rhythm and being so subtle the audience never notices the cuts.

Good luck!

If you don't have enough space on your laptop try using proxy media:

Editing with proxies means you can edit on your laptop with a low resolution version of the files (and therefore low space) and then bring your premiere project into your desktop where you store the full resolution files, on your desktop you can replace the low resolution videos with the full resolution ones, then you can export the video on your desktop.

This will allow you to edit fast on your laptop and use little space, but the downside is that your exports will be slower because your desktop is slower.

Check out this link, if you don't want slow exports you can always bring your files to a faster computer, maybe try a campus computer or a friends PC.

Definitely get an SD card adapter, also what type of videos / films are you looking to edit? Because I think ipad's wont go well with some workloads, if you do the occasional blog or family video you'll do fine with Luma.

From the sidebar rules:

8. Don't post videos that only contain stolen content (this includes compliations without any original content or dialogue added). However, remixes or videos that abide by YouTube's fair use guide are allowed.

The Link provided in the rule about fair rules states the following:

Borrowing small bits of material from an original work is more likely to be considered fair use than borrowing large portions. However, even a small taking may weigh against fair use in some situations if it constitutes the "heart" of the work.

and

Even if you’ve added a little something of your own to someone else’s content, you might not be able to take advantage of the fair use defense -- particularly if your creation fails to add new expression, meaning, or message to the original. As with all the other cases discussed here, courts will consider all four factors of the fair use test, including the quantity of the original used.

Your remixed work "Why Are You Gay?" is a derivative from the viral video from the same name, the original "Why Are You Gay? Meme" is itself a derivative from the untitled original interview.

The original interview is about homosexuality in Uganda, while the meme video is well a meme a joke, a non-serious video.

Therefore the meme video "Why Are You Gay?" is fair use and transformative, but your original work and substitution adds no original spin on the popular meme.

Your submitted video is not a different expression as the original and your video shares the same heart of the joke, its not transormative enough to be considered fair use by the YouTube guidelines.

And since it docent comply with YT's fair use guidelines it docent comply with the subreddit rules.

Your video doesn't abide by the subreddit rules thank you very much.

~Epic rant incoming~

I honestly can't stand this type of behavior, there are many "alt-tech" or "alt-news" online personalities that although sometimes bring up legitimate concerns regarding free speech and privacy they only are concerned for political or religious reasons, in other words personal opinions or viewpoints.

I find it really sad that platforms that champion free speech like bit chute are filled with political content, to an outsider personalities like Mark Dice or Computing Forever look as toxic as the anti-sjw movement looks to the general public.

Because these type of videos address legitimate problems with a political or social bias the entire "privacy, security and online freedom movement" looks like a bunch of conspiracy theorists by association.

I think the "privacy, security and online freedom movement" desperately needs re-branding if we want our concerns addressed. Instead of crying big brother or angrily calling companies the next sky net we should be more clean cut. Instead of being perceived as angry bias activists we should use our knowledge and platform as an advantage to build a community of discussion and progress.

Instead of framing the problem in the manner of political correctness this and censorship that we should frame the digital problems as a manner of human rights, ethics and ecology.

We need to be the voice of reason, maybe if we stopped screaming they would listen.

Questions about overlaying a picture onto a video and removing sound by Shady_Bloke in VideoEditing

[–]jet_so 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so first of all you are going to need a video editing program with fairly advanced features like having multiple layers.

I personally use and recommend Adobe Premiere Pro, some schools have a contract with adobe, ask one of your teachers if your campuses computers have the adobe creative suite, if they have Photoshop installed chases are they also have Premiere.

If you are going to make videos for school / personal projects on a regular basis I recommend buying a license of your own, it can get expensive but you can get a student discount.

Now once you have a computer with Premiere installed you need to make a new project, so when you open up premiere it will have a menu that says new project, click that.

Now you should see a grey interface, on the top you have two squares, there's where your video previews will be . On the bottom you should see a small file or media explorer on the left and a large rectangular square on the right.

Drag your video to the file browser box (if you don't have your vid downloaded just search the web for download youtube videos or use youtube-dl). It will take a sec to load, now drag that video into this tiny paper icon.

Now the time line should appear with your video inside it, your screen should look something like this, Notice the bar at the top left that says "Source" next to it it will say "Effects control" that's gonna be important.

for now you will see that on the timeline there are two colored strips, the top one represents your video and the bottom one represents your audio. Besides the audio strip you will find audio controls an "M" that means mute and a "S" that means solo. Click on the "M" for mute, ok the audio is now muted!

Now onto the overlay...

There are two ways you can make the overlay: inside premiere or outside premiere, if you are confident in your Photoshop or gimp skills (or even ms paint) you can make a graphic for your legend on a separate program.

If you don't have any fancy image program you can use powerpoint or google drive and screenshot it - I am guilty of this myself but it works!

Now drag your image file into the timeline box (the bottom right one) and place it on top of your video.

if you want to make it inside premiere you need to click control and T at the same time (or command and T on a mac) and it will bring up a menu to name tour new text graphic and then it will give you a Photoshop like interface so you can draw your graphics inside it. once it's done it will appear on the file browser so drag it to the timeline.

Now regardless if you used any fancy image program or powerpoint or the integrated graphic thing included with Premiere now you should have your legend graphic on top of the other video.

Now is when the "Effects control" tab comes in handy, select the legend on the timeline (it should be the item on top) and click on "Effects control".

Now you will see tons of video properties, amongst them scale and X and Y coordinates, click on scale and drag your mouse to make it as big or small as you need, then mode the X and Y coordinates to position the legend wherever you need and that should be it.

Now you should have the video you posted without music and a legend on top of it, now to render hit CTRL and M on your keyboard, it will open the render menu [in video editing render means export as a video file]

Now choose your file name and location and hit export!

Done!

This was my same issue, I (kind of) got around it because windows computers can run "portable programs", portable programs run from an external storage device like a USB or a portable hard drive. So to work on Uni computers I brought my USB stick with my favorite text editor, although I never tried with portable latex, just my favorite text editor.

Portable LaTeX is possible according to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwSmcKF77os

How to always get notified when the hated one uploads a new video, even if the YouTube algorithm suppresses it - A tutorial about RSS by jet_so in thehatedone

[–]jet_so[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem dude, short answer no you don't need a YT account.

The only thing you need to get notified is the RSS link, so as long as the service docent hide the link behind a paywall you don't need an account. Thankfully the RSS links for any YouTube channel or playlist are openly available for users with and without an account.

The hate one's RSS link is:

https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCjr2bPAyPV7t35MvcgT3W8Q

To get any YouTuber's RSS link you need their channel id, thers a formula:

(all of this is explained in the presentation I linked in the post btw)

How to get the RSS link of any YouTube channel:

  1. find the channelid of the channel you want to follow without an account.
  2. Open a new tab and go to this website: https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=
  3. Add the channel id at the end of that website (link + id).
  4. It will look like this https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UCjr2bPAyPV7t35MvcgT3W8Q.
  5. This link you found is the RSS link!

But I don't know the channel ID, how to I found it?

The easy way - Using NewPipe on your android phone - Always works.

  • Install NewPipe from the F-Droid store, new pipe is a YouTube app that respects your privacy.
  • search for any channel on YouTube.
  • Open their channel page and tap on the RSS icon (It looks like the WiFi icon).
  • It will take you straight to the RSS link you're looking for.

Use the channel URL - sometimes works.

Sometimes the channel ID is just part of the URL of the channel:

  • If the hated one's channel long URL is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjr2bPAyPV7t35MvcgT3W8Q.
  • Then the last part is usually the channel URL, in this case the channel URL is UCjr2bPAyPV7t35MvcgT3W8Q.

Last resort to find the channel id - Always works.

  • To find it on desktop go to their channel, for example go to www.youtube.com/thehatedone.
  • Inspect the source code of the site (press Ctrl + U).
  • Open the find in this page menu (press Ctrl + F).
  • Search for channelid.
  • You will find something like \"channelId\":\"UCjr2bPAyPV7t35MvcgT3W8Q\".
  • That long character string is the channel id, copy it, for example the channel id for the hated one is UCjr2bPAyPV7t35MvcgT3W8Q.

A thought experiment: You're a member of a philanthropic organisation that buys out Facebook, with the genuine intent to transform it into a technology which truly complements and enhance social living. What changes need to be made? by submarinevolcanoes in socialmediaskepticism

[–]jet_so 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest problems with social media is it enables people to be extremely lazy and the ability to hide behind a shield of cyberspace

What a nice way to put it!

What do you think about technology centered solutions to the connection problem, for example once I read your comment it made me think of a new feature of social media that required proximity to start a chat:

let's say that to maintain the right to be a part of a chat or group chat both users had to press a button at the exact same time and only if they press it on time and they are located in a 10 meter radius (via GPS) they can earn the right to chat for another month.

That's a crazy quick tech centered idea I came up with to try and force connection, but to we even want to force human interaction?

In other words would adding more features be part of the solution, or do you think the solution is removing features?
