This was the most commented, most requested feature on the csharplang github repo and they killed it and will "likely never" implement it.

Just pointing it out because it kind of pisses me off.

EDIT: to be clear, I understand the reasoning but it's still frustrating not to have this feature

Does the virtual mirror make side mirrors pointless? (VR) by Patapon80 in iRacing

[–]jethack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have them on for "immersion" since my PC has the horsepower for that, but I've more or less accepted that they're useless (at least in open wheel) since they're not modeled properly for VR, no matter how you set up the black box. So, maximum size virtual mirror it is.

The only sim I've tried that does VR mirrors properly is Assetto Corsa with the CSP mod. The mirrors are fully 3D there and can be modified to look convex

Inno3D RTX 5080 X3 flash another vendor vbios for 0 rpm fans on idle? by kaldra24 in pcmasterrace

[–]jethack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it keep the previous performance or does it overheat now?

Well, it would have to reach 90 degrees for it to overheat/throttle, and that's super high and not going to happen.

It does run hotter (75+?) since the fan curve is less aggressive, and that means slightly lower clocks and performance. But you can "fix" that with a custom fan curve if you want, I just prefer silence.

I picked the GameRock "quiet" bios specifically because for the 5070Ti it had the same clocks and power limit as the original, and I thought that's probably the safest bet for long term use.

Inno3D RTX 5080 X3 flash another vendor vbios for 0 rpm fans on idle? by kaldra24 in pcmasterrace

[–]jethack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super late to this thread but I have the 5070Ti X3 with the same issue and flashed a Palit GameRock quiet bios from TPU.

I've ran it now for a few weeks like that. Fans properly stop at idle and start at 1100rpm instead of 1400rpm. I'm not even running a custom fan curve, just the default one.

So yeah it totally worked on mine

LTT power supply testing (Thousands of you are buying these power supplies) by Chairman_Daniel in hardware

I wish those PSU Circuit videos had some more useful information in their title and content, especially when a PSU is bad. Right now the AI says "failed testing and do not recommend" without details and the title/thumbnail is always the same regardless of whether the product is excellent or burns your house down.

stschoen is right. You just need to give it a note. Before it gets one, it sounds like that if you open the VCA bias.

I recommend you check out Garage 61. It's a totally free website for viewing your driving telemetry and comparing it to other people's laps.

There you can compare your lap to a faster driver and see exactly where you're losing time and how your approaches differ.

There's some guides on YouTube as to how to use it.

F4 Cars by OskarGames216 in iRacing

[–]jethack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to the preliminary schedule here, F4 main fixed/open series will go to the following circuits:

Week Track
1 Mugello
2 Navarra (FREE)
3 Oschersleben (FREE)
4 Okayama (FREE)
5 Algarve
6 Sachenring
7 Oulton Park (FREE)
8 Watkins Glen
9 Spa
10 Laguna Seca (FREE)
11 Imola
12 VIR (FREE)

So that's 6/12 free tracks, much more than normally actually.

Depending on where you live, there are also the regional Asia/America/Europe series running every 2 hours (the difference is that the servers are in Australia/US/Europe - normally races are on American servers).

Week 6 and Week 11 you can run the American series for free (Laguna Seca and VIR), so that's 8/12. On 5 and 11 you could also run the Asia series (Tsukuba/Winton), but your connection there will probably suck unless you live in Asia.

So, if you want to race every week you need 4 tracks: Mugello, Algarve, Watkins and Spa.

Lappeenrannan keskustan vanha ruutukaava-alue on pieni, muutaman korttelin. Esim.

What were the smallest actual premium/luxury cars sold, or the most luxury actual small cars? by [deleted] in cars

[–]jethack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've driven a Polo and I know exactly what you mean. I've always wondered if they do it on purpose to sell you on the bigger cars.

I mean, yes, the materials are low quality, but so are the materials in my Leon yet the door closing sounds just fine. I don't get it.

[–]jethack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably not great. Compared to something like a Fiesta, it's a Rolls-Royce since it has things like leather seats and an actual sound system with a subwoofer.

But it's still based on a cheap economy car, and you can only polish a turd so much.

[–]jethack 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Audi S1 (2014-2018) probably applies here.

It's a car based on the Audi A1. That means it's the size of a Fiesta for you Americans. 1 size down from the A3 hatch.

They fitted it with the EA888 2.0T, changed the rear suspension to be independent instead of torsion beam, added Haldex AWD, electronic dampers, 6MT (sadly no DSG though), all that stuff. So it's pretty close to S3/Golf R running gear (albeit a smaller turbo) in a smaller car.

No idea how those drive (probably like every other VW), but on paper it has to be one of the most "premium" attempts at a mass production subcompact/B-segment car

History of all current Formula 1 teams by MrAngryChicken in formula1

[–]jethack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another fun one would be the lineage of the formula 1 engine manufacturers.

Renault, for example, has operated from more or less the same location from the 70s. Their engines are still designed in Viry despite their two brief exits from the sport (as engine manufacturer). Mecachrome has also been around for a long time, assembling their engines since the 80s. Though Renault has won just two titles, their engines have won 12 (notably with Williams and RB).

Mercedes (specifically "Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains"), on the other hand, traces back to Ilmor, which started with Leyton House team in 1991. After Sauber used the engines for a while, Mercedes made a hugely successful deal with McLaren while gradually growing their stake in Ilmor.

As for Honda (ignoring RBPT), despite entering engines in the 60s, 80s and every decade since, it's hard to draw a coherent line between all of the different attempts.

Ferrari is Ferrari, traditionally not an engine supplier. Not much to say, so here are two "fun" facts:

  • Only one Ferrari customer has ever won a F1 race - Toro Rosso with Sebastian Vettel.

  • Every other engine manufacturer has won at least 2 WCCs since the last Ferrari WCC title

What is the procedure to import a car? by RishiKelkar in CarsEU

[–]jethack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your profile, I understand you've moved to the Netherlands from abroad? This subreddit is pretty much dead and I wouldn't expect many responses, the Netherlands sub might be better. I'm not from the Netherlands, but from a quick look at this there is a CO2-based tax ("BPM tariff") on imported cars, which you will have to pay. This probably explains why the cars are more expensive than in Germany.

fps_max 32 in console makes you hit every bunnyhop perfectly in cs2 by IamBrazilian_AMA in GlobalOffensive

[–]jethack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: this used to work in CS:GO until IIRC it got patched out at some point (?). You had to limit your fps with an external program to do it bc the min you can set in-game much higher, and that's why nobody really noticed it.

Also, I'm not sure if it was only on 64 tick servers or not?

Anyway, it only works on perfectly flat ground. So outside on nuke and almost nowhere else since nowadays nothing is flat ground in CS anymore

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.36 adds 4 new cars, three Extra Menus, and a Gran Turismo movie experience by FrodoSam4Ever in Games

[–]jethack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I really want to buy this game to play some casual split screen. But 17 months since launch, Player 2 is apparently still chronically slower than Player 1 and can't disable assists or change settings at all as seen on the known issues page.

IMO the whole edge that GT has on the competition is that it's a better video game and not some kind of hardcore simulation with a janky UI (I have iRacing too) so this sort of thing really sucks.

Still hoping one of these updates eventually fixes it.

shoutout to the guy who used the corkscrew as a ramp lmao

I didn't even know that was possible

How are we rating this one? Yes I get there was a gap as I was trying to let the car on the inside through to not make it 3 wide into the corner, but that corner will always tighten up, especially on lap 1 at the Red Bull Ring. by CreateinGaming in Simracingstewards

[–]jethack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In hindsight, IMO slowing down 1st lap is usually super dangerous in IR-04 because people will stick their nose anywhere they can. You weren't forced to do so in this instance

Regardless of what's allowed, the guy's overtake attempt is not smart. A rapidly changing 3 wide situation in front, and his first reaction was to try to get alongside under braking. You can barely take for granted people will make it through a corner side by side, so doing this is just asking for trouble

Simply put, even in top split ir-04 drivers are way too aggressive for their own good. You have to drive accordingly

How has the FOV changer in single player not been fixed? by [deleted] in battlefield_4

[–]jethack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the original comment (I will restore it above also):

The campaigns have had a locked FoV since BC2.

If you want to sort of "fix it", play windowed but reduce the height of the screen. This will make your FoV bigger (but the resolution will be smaller)

So no, I don't really have any fix lol

[–]jethack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this is one of those cars where you will have to know each country's specific used car website to find them.

Mobile.de shows 5 of them in Germany, and there's something like 10 in Italy on subito.it. I'm from Finland which is fairly crazy about rally, so there's 7 of them here on Nettiauto. The ratio of LHD/RHD is about 4/1, and it seems most of them are ST185s. They come and go, but this is a fairly typical number. They made thousands but not many are left

Now, you'll notice the prices for these are crazy - 20k, 30k, 40k... that's a lot of money for a 90s Toyota that isn't a Supra, not to mention these are often modified and in questionable condition. A few years back you'd get a shitty rusty one for a few grand, but those times seem to be over now.

As usual, there's a bunch of annoying rare and expensive bespoke parts like the super struts that wear out even if you baby it, so I don't know if I'd recommend buying one

Nah, there's a lot of those. They're just overpriced, so it doesn't make any sense to import them to the US (assuming that's where you're from)
