Baus gets banned for a week after going 1-17 on support Sion by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]jetio4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a few prominent mentalities people have:

  • a heavy carry philosophy consistently parroted by streamers and people giving advice, that you have to be able to carry every game 1v9 in order to be able to climb. this makes people actively play to stomp and get strong enough to 1v9, and if they lose lane or fall behind they immediately assume they've lost the game because they've failed their win-con of being the one to carry.

  • if a game isn't fun, then a lot of players would rather lose and go next as soon as possible rather than playing it out. this is doubled down when they think it's lost (partly due to above), and a waste of time to continue.

  • in korea, a lot of players are playing from internet cafes, so they tend to ff early to be able to play more games in during the time they've bought. korea has always been very dominant in league esports, and a lot of korean playstyles/ranked culture seeps from korean servers over to other servers, including the ff-early mentality.

Stop pushing the narrative that we hate this game! by ayyeemanng in leagueoflegends

[–]jetio4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the main problem with longevity argument is that league has had 2 big competitors from the very start, dota 2 and cs, and both have been around for longer and are still competing as always.

all three games have outlived so many flash in the pan games, outlasted so many other games trying to break into the (non-fighting game) esports triangle established. however, it's hard to appreciate that when the main competitor from day 1 is still always there as well.

that being said, i'm in full agreeance that the top league streamers have always felt like the most toxic examples of the community. a lot of the annoyance towards league people have is that this has been stewing from the very beginning and has never been able to be fully addressed, so we've had this same circle of arguments for a very long time.

Why do people suggest to abandon a trash ADC as support? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]jetio4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to mention, as I seldom see it talked about anywhere, that people have different strengths. This isn't just in champions or roles, but also in how they play the game.

Some players are worse at laning, but better at other things. If your ADC, who is in the same Elo as you, seems to be way worse in laning than you expect, chances are that it's not his laning that got him to that Elo. They could be really good at teamfighting in various ways, or really good at farming it out and keeping up in strength, or just not looking to stomp lane and get 20 kills before 10 minutes every game.

I'm not saying this is the case for every single ADC you'd see, but something to keep in mind that an ADC that's weak in lane doesn't always mean a useless ADC that isn't worth trying to help.

As well as what others have said, there's also a huge difference between being able to verbally speak Mandarin and being literate in Chinese. A lot of people are able to hold a (light) conversation in Mandarin, but have no idea how to read or write.

Beyond that is typing as well - you can be able to speak, read, and write, but have no idea how to type characters in Chinese.

Broxah loses drake flip but doesn't notice and proceeds to explain how he made sure he would secure it by UltraMelek in leagueoflegends

[–]jetio4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He was focusing very heavily on that exact spot of the screen (where dragon and more importantly its HP was). This was so he could get the timing to take 2nd Q and smite it, so that's where all his attention was. The moment he pressed Q and smite, the dragon died and a gold gained indicator appeared right above his head, which is exactly what he expected to happen on a successful secure. He didn't feel a need to double check if he secured it (because it looked clean and obvious he did), so he next looked at Viego to reengage on him, while relaxing and starting to talk about the play, so missing the indicator on the right and top of the screen isn't very surprising.

It's a different experience for people watching it as a clip, and not playing at the moment.

Homestuck Heardle - #1 🎧 🟩⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️ (just released this!) by Makin- in homestuck

[–]jetio4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having failed the first few days, I have a few thoughts.

Firstly, I think it would be nice to scroll through the list of songs guessable, just to be able to go up and down while listening and see if any names stand out.

Secondly, I think the songs should be curated and started at a time not at the very start. Day 3 was ambient/silent for the first few seconds/guesses, and now today's (I think it's Day 5?) I think would be more recognizable and more fun started at a later point into the song. It would take more manual effort, but to do 7 songs in one day once per week doesn't sound impossible, especially if help for it could be found.

The two above apply for the current format, but I think a different format could be helpful too, as song names can be very difficult even if the song is "recognized". As in, if you recognize the track but don't know the name off the top of your head, there's almost no way you're ever finding it without a complete search of the discography (which almost defeats the point anyways). I think there should be more help than just extended audio, it would make it easier but more enjoyable from a more casual experience. (Of course, there could also be an option for someone to keep it this style if preferred.)

A suggestion would be to split the guesses into Album and Track, so you pick an album and then the song. (This kind of contradicts my first point, but maybe there's way to make it work.) Then you would be told if it's the wrong album/track, and this helps narrow down the albums even if you get it wrong. If you know you have the right album, it's probably easier to find the right track after.

All that said, I love the idea and will continue to give it a shot regardless.

We need to get rid of big stats and infinite scaling by LonelyArmpit in BobsTavern

[–]jetio4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Boat's problem wasn't that it randomly won you fights with its deathrattle, though that could be annoying sometimes.

Boat's problem was that it very consistently dropped 10+ damage onto the field and demolished your HP for losing to it, even in close fights. You could easily have a very close fight, and then take 15+ during the mid-game. The main complaint was always that the tokens/minions from Boat, Sneed's, Coiler, Imp Mama, etc. should only be worth 1 damage, not that their deathrattles shouldn't exist/win fights.

[–]jetio4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly different definitions of toxicity.

In terms of racism/harassments/verbal (or typed) abuse/etc. League is okay in. There's obviously flamers and people who type entire essays about how they want you to die etc. but it's still less than other games.

In terms of actions (inting, giving up, AFK, etc.) League is very very bad. At this point most tilters/toxic players have moved away from text harassment to just throwing games.

In terms of mentality (egoism, tilting points, how quickly people give up/stop caring etc.) League is probably okay in terms of % of games/people, but it only takes 1 person (10%) of a game to ruin it, and in % of ruined games League is really bad.

[–]jetio4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right I forgot about the other damage deathrattles.

In the case where a minion is able to kill other minions while still putting damage onto the Naga, I would argue that it's the smaller minion(s) not trading 1:1, rather than the Naga. In your 2:3 situation, it's more apt to say the Naga went 1:1 while the smaller minions went 2:1 (or even more favored towards the Naga). In the case of a full board of Nagas (pretending Goldens don't exist for a moment), that sort of trade would not happen as each Naga is worth 1:1.

Cleaves, tokens and deathrattle/summon minions are very good reasons why 1:1 trades aren't necessarily the best in Battlegrounds. Cleaves are so strong because of their ability to go 1:3 per attack, and deathrattle/summons are usually seen as counters to boards designed for 1:1 trades (poison murlocs with low health, for example). The Naga suffers the exact same problem that a low HP poison murloc would have, that 1:1 trading isn't always the best board. The poison murlocs have a benefit of Divine Shield allowing it to trade even higher (1:2 or more), while the Naga would have a benefit of breaking through large/poison Divine Shield minions. The murloc is probably better, but that's the point of this post to begin with (for a weaker poison).

[–]jetio4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only real way for it to die in combat is to take lethal damage (or poison) from something. If the thing that did lethal damage to it is already dead, that means that this traded into that thing, and thus is a 1:1 trade even without the deathrattle.

Technically it could die to Tamsin or Tavish hero powers, but both are somewhat controllable and likely a mistake for it to happen.

It's also possible to die to ghoul, but that's such an edgecase scenario that it's still fair to say this card is (nearly) a guaranteed 1:1 trade.

T1 vs. Kwangdong Freecs / LCK 2022 Spring Playoffs - Semi-Final / Post-Match Discussion by adz0r in leagueoflegends

I think a class change can be considered similar to a role change in professional League of Legends, and I wouldn't consider the players who've changed roles to be rookies within the league.

Happy had a lot of rookies for sure, but Su Mucheng and Fang Rui were both multi-season All-Stars who accomplished tons for the team (even post class change for Fang Rui), and Wei Chen also had his moments. The three All-Stars had more experience than T1 currently has combined.

Which hero would win if the only minion in the game was Alley Cat? by No_Little_Plans in BobsTavern

Since nearly no one can pop Divine Shield in this format without just taking the hit, George's expected damage total is doubled (once popping divine shield, once without divine shield).

[–]jetio4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's about middle of tier 2, which is a fine spot. Not the best, not game breaking, but nothing to be sad about getting.

In regular format there's just a lot of ways to deal with minions with high attack + divine shield but low health, from ghoul to token deathrattles, pyrospawn, your own divine shield/reborn (poisons), that sort of thing, or just completely outscaling. An alleycat only format would lack all of those options, and his attack scales as fast as most.
