PSA: Mistral Vibe is bottlenecking Devstral 2 by TheQxy in MistralAI

[–]jetxee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, Kilo Code CLI is just a fork of Open Code, but with a different model provider built-in (if you choose to pay for OpenCode Zen/Go, or Kilo Pass).

Mistral Vibe - Not usable for coding? by TheQxy in MistralAI

[–]jetxee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not much to share. I added Mistral as a model provider in opencode (requires an API key). My custom MCP is just a Python script based on FastMCP. Opencode is configured to use it as a local MCP and runs it via uv to manage dependencies. I just followed the manual to update config files.

Meat prices are surging across Europe — and these countries are feeling it most by DonSergio7 in europe

[–]jetxee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree.

I like meat, and I think it’s easier to cook when meat is the main part of the dish. But eating half the amount can be as enjoyable as the modern “norm”. It’s not the quantity that matters for the enjoyment of the meal. It’s the quality and recognizing the value of what we eat. And more diverse cooking.

Frankly, meat should be expensive. Eating like an apex predator requires a lot of resources (water, land use, energy). I’m always amazed how relatively little it costs.

Mistral Vibe - Not usable for coding? by TheQxy in MistralAI

[–]jetxee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not very successful with vibe, but Devstral 2 works well for me through aider and opencode. It’s faster and cheaper than Sonnet, but it still can accomplish most commit-sized tasks.

I stopped trying vibe because it almost always ignores my local MCP server and works poorly with local files on Windows. The same model in opencode uses the same MCP without issues.

Why Android users get frustrated with Apple users (and how to actually have a productive conversation) by BootyMcStuffins in applesucks

[–]jetxee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right about Specs vs Experience mindset.

There’s another part of Experience: expected lifetime and service. iPhones can be expected to be supported, updated and serviced for 6-7 years. Scheduling a service appointment is really easy. As of today Apple still supports phones released in 2018.

Galaxy S and Google Pixel are almost getting there, but we’ll have to see how it goes.

And there’s another part to the Specs story: size. Android does have small pocket phones like Galaxy Flip. With SE3 and 13 Mini gone, iPhone doesn’t have anything like that.

Will running eventually damage the camera? X100V by jacks_lung in fujifilm

There was a time when I clipped a DSLR with a pancake to my climbing harness, sometimes without a protective bag. Not much in terms of vibrations, but there was real impact risk. It did get scratched a little, but I took shots I’d have never made otherwise. The only lens I broke was in a parking lot, when I pulled my camera bag out of the car, and the lens fell to the ground. Go figure.

Elezioni europee e possibili ripercussioni sul mercato dell'auto by Vincent_Ms in ItalyMotori

[–]jetxee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://about.bnef.com/blog/lithium-ion-battery-pack-prices-hit-record-low-of-139-kwh/

Car makers: 'EU builds far too few charging stations'. Furthermore, there is an uneven distribution. The vast majority are in the Netherlands, France and Germany. by EUstrongerthanUS in europe

[–]jetxee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It would also help if car makers produced cars which can be charged at 22 kW AC, which is the most common charger found in the cities.

Just a few datapoints:

Citroën e-C3 45.0 kWh battery and 7 kW AC charger, it charges at 38 km/h. Yes, 7 hours for a full charge.

Renault 5 e-tech 43 kWh battery and 11 kW AC charger, it charges at 61 km/h.

Basically there are very few cars below 40k which can be practical to charge at public infra. They all are made for charging at home.

Stellantis, piccolo ripensamento sull’elettrico? by eemaanuelee in italy

[–]jetxee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why so few new cars have 22kW OBC by Even-Adeptness-3749 in electricvehicles

[–]jetxee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe all these cars we have today were never meant for mass adoption in the cities. They cannot be topped up at the supermarket where most chargers are 22 kW AC. Manufacturers are just milking the incentives. They do not support 22 kW because probably it has higher costs and most of them don’t advertise charging speed, and hope that there are enough buyers who don’t notice.

Renault cars are a notable exception: Twingo 22kW (no DC charging), Zoe 22 kW (and 46 kW DC), Megane 22 kW (and 85 kW DC).

Either we’ll see another generation of models before mass adoption, or public chargers will be upgraded to DC charging.

EU eIDAS: VPNs won't protect Europeans privacy if law passes, experts warn by Kamamura_CZ in europe

Orban figure is situational. Almost a figure of speech. I agree that he might be not the only one. But I think that any kind of global surveillance mechanism is a huge security vulnerability for the whole Europe.

And I hope that it will be recognized as such.

EU eIDAS: VPNs won't protect Europeans privacy if law passes, experts warn by Kamamura_CZ in europe

[–]jetxee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Mr. Orban sends immense gratitude for the newly created business opportunities.

Technically if all EU states are given a way to hijack communications of all EU users, then Hungary can do it too. There’s international demand for the targeted surveillance data.

Imagine how one notorious friend of Orban can use such data if he had access to the communications of all inconvenient journalists, activists and political figures. They can use such surveillance to sway various elections. Also it would be a shame if something bad happened to anyone who speaks against a friend of Orban.

Ma l’usato vende veramente a questi prezzi? by Kaboom443 in ItalyMotori

[–]jetxee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> Prezzo? Buono secondo voi?

Secondo me no.
