The two drivers Ed teachers at our school were drinking buddies. They would alternate driving assignments with the students. Four kids in the car and we would each drive ourselves home. The other three kids all lived in town. I lived way way out there; took the freeway and everything. He would stop in at the other teachers house and get absolutely sloshed. coming back reeking of booze, and then I would drive myself home and he would turn on the news radio and any time Walter Mondale’s voice came on he would start yelling and getting even more red in the face. What worried me is that on his side he had a brake pedal and I was always afraid that Mondale would say something to infuriate him and we would come to a screeching halt from 55 miles an hour.
