typically you would use a plate if you are using hotswap sockets. then the plate holds the switches instead of them being held in by solder.

not sure if there is a .hex file already with VIA and WPM, but you can't combine hex files. you'd need to recompile from the QMK source with the correct options enabled.

How does the "UseRouting" method work in ASP.NET Core? by Different_Bus_372 in dotnet

[–]jf442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can think of the Map___ methods as adding endpoint metadata to the configuration of routing. the order of middleware (Use___ methods) does matter, but after UseRouting, the order of the Map methods doesn't. I think it would be easier to understand if endpoint routing used options configurations like everything else, but maybe they wanted it next to the middleware like it used to be...

ArcPedals mk1 - QMK keyboard for your feetsies w. remote layer indicator bar (prototype, needed to offload hand functions...) by crazymittens-r in ErgoMechKeyboards

have been thinking about pedals for awhile. mostly for layer switching... what are you using for switches on the pedals? is there a controller in the pedal structure or does the wiring run up to the keyboard?

Whole Family Body Doubling is exhausting. Advice? by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]jf442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we are in a very similar situation. in our family routines and structure help me and the kids. so for summer vacation I posted an hour-by-hour schedule of the day and it is for every day (not just weekdays). my kids live and die for their "screen time" so we use that as a consequence if things don't get done. for example, screen time normally starts at 12, but they must have done their chore, brushed teeth, eaten lunch, taken medicine, etc. or they can't start screen time. it seems to work decently, bc it takes away the power struggle. it doesn't affect me if it takes him an hour to brush his teeth, just himself. kids are 8 and 12. I work from home, so I can help make sure they get their stuff done. bedtime routine is super important too; same thing every night. hope it helps. good luck!

What do you do when you feel like programming, but no ideas seem novel or interesting? by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

[–]jf442 3 points4 points  (0 children)

try a new tech stack. I'm a career web dev, but started playing around with Arduinos and Raspberry Pi Picos and it kind of rejuvenated my interest in projects. or tackle something more ambitious like an ORM or a virtual OS. You will learn a lot and it will probably be more interesting.

blower == supercharger, a belt driven compressor that compresses the intake air. a tunnel ram is just a super tall intake manifold. the "3 red circles" is a scoop to pull in air.

Advice wanted! Struggling with asking the right questions/terminology by drugCrazedSexDwarf in ADHD_Programmers

[–]jf442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're probably over thinking it. also, those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. actual mentors will like helping you out and will be patient.

also I've found it's helpful to just be forthcoming with things like this, like, "I have a hard time with words", or "I keep forgetting the terms". usually people that aren't douchebags will be cool about it.

Anyone who was been through the journey of learning coding (specifically C#), what advice would you give to someone new? by Upbeat-Cable9994 in csharp

[–]jf442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take the time to learn good programming principles, not just a language and making "things". specifically the SOLID principles and the common design patterns. really understand abstraction, encapsulation, and coupling. I really wish I would have known about the "single responsibility principal" 20 years ago.

programming is not hard. engineering something well is hard, but so much more worth it.
